Chapter 30

Chapter 30

Since his father's death, Zhan Yuewei had been constantly replaying the scene of that banquet, the various people and events, and somehow, a clear thought kept emerging in his mind—Yu Congyi had killed his father. Driven by revenge, he couldn't let the other party continue to have an easy time!

Today, such an opportunity has presented itself, and even if he doesn't know the relationship between Tang Zefei and Yu Congyi, it doesn't matter anymore. Tang Zefei is already his enemy, and if he can deal with her along with Yu Congyi this time, it would be a great relief.

Tang Zefei has become his most troublesome opponent in the British Concession Chamber of Commerce and must be eliminated. Yu Congyi does not involve his interests, so he can play with him and deal with him when he gets tired of him. He is just a sergeant major in the military police. After so many years of being a master of love, Young Master Zhan is confident that he has the means to deal with him.

"I said, I want you to leave China!" Zhan Yuewei pointed at Yu Congyi and started yelling at Tang Zefei, "If you want him, get out; if you don't want him, I'll take him with me."

"Dream on!" Before Zhan Yuewei could finish speaking, Yu Congyi, unable to contain himself any longer, cursed, tilting his head back and slamming it into Zhan Yuewei's forehead, while simultaneously striking him hard in the abdomen with his elbow, almost with all his might. Several muffled thuds followed, and Zhan Yuewei took the blows squarely. With a scream, he quickly released Yu Congyi and stumbled backward, the sudden pain driving him to curse. Just then, Yu Congyi swung his fist again, this time aimed at his face, causing his forehead to bleed. Touching his temple, Zhan Yuewei saw the bright red mark on his hand in the light, and shook it violently. Looking at Yu Congyi, his expression was a mixture of shock and fear, his teeth clenched, "You fucking mad dog!"

Yu Congyi turned around and glared at him hatefully. He saw that Zhan Yuewei's head and face were covered in blood, looking utterly disheveled. He tugged at his sleeve, looked at the other man with a warning, and said harshly, "Young Master Zhan, you'd better be sensible. What kind of behavior is this, clinging on shamelessly? It's so dark, why aren't you going home? Aren't you afraid of falling and killing yourself while walking at night?" After saying that, he turned to leave without hesitation, wanting only to get away from this terrible situation as quickly as possible.

But before he could take two steps, his surroundings sprang into action. Several bodyguards, who had been hiding there, emerged from under the dark eaves and swiftly surrounded him.

Upon seeing this, the boy screamed and ran away completely. Yu Congyi was forced to stop and turn around, staring at Zhan Yuewei outside the crowd, "What does Young Master Zhan mean by this?"

"Take him away." Zhan Yuewei pulled a handkerchief from her pocket, wiped her forehead, and waved her hand, giving the order.

Immediately, two bodyguards stepped forward from the left and right and restrained Yu Congyi's hands.

"Wait a minute," Tang Zefei said at this moment.

"Oh! Young Master Tang has other instructions?" Zhan Yuewei's face was covered in blood, but a smile played on her lips as she looked at Tang Zefei, who was standing outside the crowd watching. Her expression was exaggerated with schadenfreude due to excitement.

"I agree to your request. Give him to me."

"Haha! Young Master Tang, so you've finally changed your mind? What, didn't you already choose a partner? Now you're trying to steal my person?" Zhan Yue chuckled awkwardly, but waved her hand, signaling the bodyguards to stop.

"Zhan Yuewei," Tang Zefei raised her voice, "let me remind you, you can play with those guys before, but he's not someone you can play with."

"So that's what you can do? Hahahaha," Zhan Yuewei laughed wildly, throwing the blood-stained handkerchief into the water. "Young Master Tang, do you think I don't know? What are you pretending for? You don't need to make such a fool of yourself. Let me tell you, I've suddenly decided not to exchange it, not to give it to you. I'm going to have Yu Congyi today, no matter what benefits you offer me." Slowly wading through the water to approach him, Zhan Yuewei tilted her head back and patted Tang Zefei's cheek. "Good boy, okay? A bet's a bet. Tsk, I haven't tasted Commander Yu's intoxicating flavor yet."

The moonlight poured down on Tang Zefei's face like water, his black hair, soaked in the silvery light, seemed to have a soft quality, but his face was as sharp as a piece of cold porcelain.

Turning around abruptly, Zhan Yuewei ordered her bodyguards sharply, "Take her away!"

"Stop!" Tang Zefei shouted. With a "plop," water splashed from the hem of her clothes onto the road with a dull thud. Zhan Yuewei's eyes twitched slightly, and she turned her head in disbelief to see Tang Zefei kneeling on the ground. "Please, I beg you, let him go. I've fallen in love with him," Tang Zefei said with difficulty.

Zhan Yuewei found it all very novel. This was the first time he had ever seen Tang Zefei kneel before someone, the first time he had ever seen him beg for a man. He was actually willing to beg someone for a man—was this really Tang Zefei? Was this the arrogant, cold-hearted Tang Zefei?

“I feel like I don’t recognize you anymore,” Zhan Yuewei said, looking down at Tang Zefei’s face with an unpredictable expression.

Tang Zefei didn't say anything more, but he didn't get up immediately either. He stubbornly remained kneeling in the mud, silently watching Zhan Yuewei. Yu Congyi, standing in the crowd, saw Tang Zefei like this and heard what he said. He didn't feel much surprise or embarrassment; he simply closed his eyes and shook his head.

"Yu Congyi," Zhan Yuewei ignored Tang Zefei, turned and walked into the encirclement, calling out softly, "Yu Congyi, oh Yu Congyi, I truly underestimated your charm..."

Suddenly, he sprang to his feet as if he had lost his mind. He rushed to Yu Congyi in a few steps, opened his arms, and tackled him to the ground. Zhan Yuewei then tightly gripped Yu Congyi's neck.

"You killed my father, didn't you? It was you! Hahahaha, hehehehe," Zhan Yue became slightly deranged, his hands gradually clasping together as he cheered to those around him, shouting, "Guards, strip Commander Yu of his clothes! I'm going to execute him on the spot!!"

"Zhan Yuewei!!! What nonsense are you spouting?! How dare you!" Tang Zefei's angry voice came from behind. Immediately, two or three bodyguards went back and restrained Tang Zefei.

Ignoring him, Zhan Yuewei took a deep breath, lowered her head, and fiercely kissed Yu Congyi's lips amidst his fierce struggles, biting and tearing at them, squeezing her tongue into his mouth. Yu Congyi's arms were held down by the powerful bodyguards, making him almost unable to move. Having tasted his pleasure enough, Zhan Yuewei pulled him up and dragged him to Tang Zefei's side. Seeing Tang Zefei still kneeling on the ground, pinned down by her men, she couldn't help but raise her shoe and press it against his Adam's apple.

“Actually, you’re my type too,” the shoe tip hooked under Tang Zefei’s chin. He gave a wink, and the bodyguard pulled Yu Congyi closer to him. Zhan Yuewei, in front of Tang Zefei, fiercely blocked Yu Congyi’s mouth again, smacking her lips and sucking on them like a delicacy. “How about it? I told you it was intoxicating. Let me taste it for you first.”

Yu Congyi tried to struggle, but to no avail. He knew he could hardly resist, and since it wasn't in his best interest, he simply kept his eyes closed the entire time, silently resisting, but his eyelids twitched violently. Tang Zefei stared at his profile and saw his eyebrows furrowed in pain, his eyelashes fluttering wildly. His usually fierce and unruly appearance now seemed so lost and helpless…

"Actually, you're my type too..." Zhan Yuewei said, her voice trembling with arousal, her fingers clenching Yu Congyi's chin, veins bulging. "I..."

In that instant, Tang Zefei stood up without warning, pulled out a pistol hidden under his clothes, and fired several shots at Zhan Yuewei!

The sudden gunshots shattered the tranquil night sky. The unexpected turn of events left everyone present stunned and bewildered. Some dodged, some fell to the ground, and some screamed. In an instant, the scene was chaotic and filled with smoke and gunfire. Yu Congyi, accustomed to such scenes and gunshots, was on high alert and broke free from his bodyguards' grasp almost without hesitation, dodging to a distance of two or three zhang. Zhan Yuewei was shot twice in the chest and three times in the abdomen. She collapsed to the ground, bleeding profusely and on the verge of death.

A few seconds later, the stunned bodyguards all came to their senses, and someone shouted, "Quick, save the young master!" In an instant, the bodyguards, who had been like ants scattered by the water, gathered together again and surrounded Zhan Yuewei.

Zhan Yue lay in the rain, her eyes still open, but she was no longer breathing; she looked like she had died with her eyes wide open.

"Young Master is dead!!!" Someone cried out in despair, but before he could finish mourning his master, Tang Zefei, who had been fleeing towards the curb, suddenly turned around and fired several more shots at the swarm of men in black! These men in black, as bodyguards of the Zhan family, were not all authorized to carry guns, so they could only scatter in all directions. A few of the bolder ones raised their stun batons and rushed forward, wanting to die with Tang Zefei.

At that moment, a dark figure appeared swiftly. It was Lu Jin, who had seemingly appeared out of nowhere, holding a pistol. He stood beside Tang Zefei and opened fire on the crowd on the road!

After about a dozen gunshots, twelve bodies lay scattered across the street. The poor Zhan family bodyguards simply couldn't believe that the person their boss had described as someone who was too lazy to even cut fruit with a knife could actually wield a gun! Zhan Yuewei died so inexplicably due to such carelessness.

The deserted streets returned to calm.

The bright moon hung high, casting a pale light on both heaven and earth. The rain reflected the moon's image, gradually revealing a glaring red hue—the blood of the dead had coalesced into a sizable stream, slowly flowing along the curb.

The blood flowed to Tang Zefei's feet. Tang Zefei lowered her head and remained silent, as if observing something.

He suddenly dropped his gun, his breathing became rapid, and he staggered backward. Lu Jin caught him, his voice trembling as he spoke, "Young Master, what... what do we do now?"

Tang Zefei stopped, looked up, his breathing heavy, and shook his head. He was numb for a moment after the shock. His gaze was focused, not on the ground, but only on what was in front of him.

He saw that Yu Congyi had not left, but had returned at some point and was standing in front of him, just looking at him without saying a word.

The boundless moonlight bathed this human drama, and Yu Congyi clearly saw Tang Zefei's face. He saw that Tang Zefei's face was deathly pale, and his chestnut pupils, deep beneath his brow bone, were narrowed to tiny points. Two drops of blood, round and glaringly red, splattered on his straight nose, one in his eye and one on the tip of his nose, creating a frighteningly strange sight. His mouth was slightly open, and his breathing was extremely rapid. Yu Congyi couldn't discern his emotions at that moment; he only felt that Tang Zefei looked like a vampire.

Yu Congyi stared at him like that for an unknown amount of time, until Yu Congyi turned around, walked to Zhan Yuewei's body, knelt down on one knee, looked at the corpse, and said in a calm tone, "Tell me, why did you do this?"

Tang Zefei immediately smiled, took a deep breath, and his gaze shifted to Yu Congyi. He walked down the steps and stood beside Yu Congyi. "I love you. Don't you believe me?"

Yu Congyi heard his unwavering voice, a different kind of indifferent coldness. He scoffed, raised his head, and said sarcastically, "Young Master Tang, let's not pretend anymore. What's the point of all this ambiguous talk? You already knew I killed your brother Tang Lishu, and your repeated attempts to approach me are clearly to avenge him." He paused, then continued, "Both Zhan Yuewei and I are your targets. Today he unfortunately fell first; who knows, one day I might suffer the same fate, right?"

Raising his head, Yu Congyi stared mockingly into Tang Zefei's eyes, slowly standing up while supporting himself on his knees. He saw Tang Zefei lower her head and wipe her nose, a long line of blood trailing from her finger. He casually pulled out a handkerchief to wipe his hands, saying, "What if I told Commander Yu that I didn't care at all?"

This time, Yu Congyi smiled and sighed, "Really?"

Tang Zefei gave him a deep look, but before she could speak, Yu Congyi suddenly took a step closer, and the muzzle of his gun was already pressed against Tang Zefei's chest. "You ordered Jiang Jiejie to be killed, didn't you?"

The moment those words were asked, a chill ran through the hearts of the three people present. Tang Zefei's eyelids suddenly twitched inexplicably, making him panic; and the name struck Lu Jin like a thunderbolt. Lu Jin reacted quickly, raising his pistol and pressing the muzzle against Yu Congyi's temple, his chest heaving uncontrollably, until Tang Zefei pulled it away.

Tang Zefei glanced at Lu Jin, signaling him to calm down. She herself managed to regain her composure. "Jiang Jiejie, that name sounds familiar," Tang Zefei said softly. "Isn't she Yang Xiang's wife? Why are you asking about her?"

Tang Zefei didn't know why Yu Congyi brought up this woman's name at this time. He had heard this name from his mother and remembered it vividly because of his fear. He knew that Yu Congyi would have a hard time trusting him. He originally didn't want to lie to him or use him for anything, but this happened, and he had no choice but to lie to him again.

"Young Master, don't talk to him..." Lu Jin hurriedly spoke up, his voice carrying an unspoken meaning. It wasn't just because he was a murderer, but also because of a deep-seated promise to protect Madam Tang, which was why he had suddenly become so agitated.

"You only need to answer my questions." Yu Congyi didn't lower his gun. He glanced at Lu Jin, then turned back to Tang Zefei. "Yes, or no?"

“Then let me tell you, no. I said Jiang Jiejie is Yang Xiang’s wife, I only care about Yang Xiang’s affairs,” Tang Zefei’s voice lowered, becoming softer and softer as if floating, “Do you know that Yang Xiang is dead? I killed him.”

"Why?"

"Why? Because he's affecting my business. And why? Do you believe me now?" Tang Zefei suddenly laughed. Yu Congyi frowned, feeling that the person in front of him was almost insane.

Tang Zefei clutched his chest, suddenly closed his eyes, and stumbled, leaning against Lu Jin's shoulder. Yu Congyi, unsure of what was wrong, felt the cold fabric of his coat brush against his hand as the hard muzzle of the gun grazed it. Lu Jin steadied his young master's shoulder and urgently asked in a low voice, "Are you alright? I'll call a doctor right away?"

Tang Zefei nodded, leaned on Lu Jin's shoulder, and said softly, "Commander Yu, are you asking about Jiang Jiejie because you want to avenge her and her husband?" As he said this, a pang of sadness naturally welled up in his heart. His anemia was flaring up again, and his vision was blurring in waves, but he still managed to tease the person in front of him in the gaps between his breaths, "Who is Jiang Jiejie to you? Why do you care about her so much?"

“I know you are involved in her death,” Yu Congyi did not answer him. “My relationship with her is not important. I only know that I must avenge this person.”

Yu Congyi didn't know why he had to bring up this thing buried deep in his heart. Because bringing it up didn't make him feel any better. He thought that he might just want to see Tang Zefei's reaction. His gaze was fixed on Tang Zefei's face, but he saw more and more blood flowing from her nose. His heart tightened, and he became nervous without even realizing it.

He hadn't realized when he'd started to care about the other person's gestures, but Tang Zefei had no time to pay attention to him now. Lu Jin frantically pulled a handkerchief from his pocket, but it was already stained with blood. He could only use his sleeve to wipe the blood from his young master's wound, looking utterly disheveled.

Yu Congyi sighed, took a clean handkerchief from his pocket, and handed it over. He had known for a long time that Tang Zefei's health wasn't good, but he didn't know what kind of illness it was or how severe it was. Seeing it today, it seemed like a difficult and complicated disease, making his heart tighten. "What's wrong with him?"

Yu Congyi asked a question hesitantly, but Lu Jin ignored him and helped Tang Zefei sit down on the roadside.

"She's so important to you." After sitting down, Tang Zefei leaned against Lu Jin without any restraint, her tone becoming uninhibited, and even Yu Congyi could detect the bitterness in her voice.

Yu Congyi didn't want this conversation to continue, so he squatted down as well. Seeing that the man was half asleep and always had a mysterious smile on his face, which was always ambiguous, Yu Congyi's displeasure grew stronger. He decided to pour out his doubts, "You sent someone to assassinate Li Ming, didn't you?"

"Your suspicion of me makes me feel very cold." Tang Zefei didn't admit it, but instead sighed softly, half-opened her eyes and looked at him, with a hint of hurt in her eyes. Her deep and long gaze was fixed on Yu Congyi's eyes.

Yu Congyi helplessly turned his head away, not because he dared not look at him. Tang Zefei's gaze, like a serpentine snake, often made his heart tighten, gradually giving him a suffocating feeling. Yu Congyi didn't know the reason for his panic, but he didn't want to get so pointlessly entangled in his entanglement, so he could only look away as usual. After thinking about it helplessly, he realized that he couldn't get any clues from the other party.

“I know what you’re thinking. But we’re different,” Tang Zefei said calmly. “My brother was genuinely killed by you, and I didn’t pursue the matter further. Shouldn’t you consider letting me go too?”

Yu Congyi, suppressing his emotions, didn't answer. He stood up, thought for a moment, and said, "Since that's the case, then I have nothing more to say. Young Master Tang, let's say goodbye." As usual, he turned to leave, but Tang Zefei suddenly stood up and grabbed him. Lu Jin was startled, knowing that his master's health condition was not suitable for continuing this nonsense.

So he stood up as well. Yu Congyi turned around and saw Tang Zefei covering her mouth and nose with a handkerchief, the bloodstains on the handkerchief gradually spreading. "You..." he said.

“I’m leaving. If you want to come looking for revenge, hurry up, because I’m going back to my hometown in Italy. You won’t be able to find me…” Tang Zefei staggered, supporting herself on Lu Jin with one hand, threw away the handkerchief covering her mouth and nose, and slowly reached out to Yu Congyi, gently touching his cheek. “Maybe everything between us can end now… It’s just a pity that I couldn’t sleep with you.”

After saying this, Tang Zefei suddenly felt his legs go weak, his chest ached unbearably, and his vision went black and black again. He could only see Yu Congyi's face blurry and swaying in front of him, and the words "Young Master" that Lu Jin was calling out loudly seemed to be far away in his ears. He lost consciousness and completely fell into a coma.
