Chapter 7
The next morning, Shen Que took Xingxing to kindergarten.
She drove to the Huo Group to meet Huo Junyan. The receptionist was just being polite and didn't offer to help her make an appointment. She brought up Huo Zixi, and the receptionist's smile remained unchanged.
After Shen Que called Huo Zixi to confirm that Huo Junyan was at the company, he waited quietly in the round sofa area of the lobby.
It wasn't until lunch break that employees started coming out of the elevator one after another. They walked to the left through the lobby, discussing the new dishes in the cafeteria, took another elevator, or walked to the right out of the lobby to pick up takeout, or went into nearby upscale restaurants in twos and threes.
About ten minutes later, the hall became empty and quiet again, and Huo Junyan was nowhere to be seen.
Her fingertips hovered over Huo Zixi's phone before moving away. He seemed to be doing poorly at the company. Chen Que glanced at the receptionist, then got up and made himself a cup of coffee.
She sat down again, took a sip, frowned, and found the taste strange, so she put the coffee down.
Before long, people began to pass by her sofa area. Occasionally, someone would sit down and scroll through their phone, waiting for their companion to arrive before leaving together. People would occasionally glance at Chen Que, either in amazement or curiosity, but no one stopped.
"I've made you a fresh cup of coffee with lemon slices."
The receptionist suddenly appeared, slightly bent over, and placed the coffee in front of her.
Shen Que was watching a video of stars at school that her kindergarten teacher had sent her. When she heard this, she looked up, but instead of resuming her standard smile, she returned a warm smile and said, "Thank you."
The receptionist paused for a moment, then got up and left, her steps slightly unsteady. When she got to her work station, she couldn't help but touch her flushed cheeks.
She was dazzled by that bright and beautiful smile and lost her temper.
This face is so striking.
No wonder... The receptionist looked up and exchanged lip-reading with her colleague, unable to determine whether it was Huo Junyan or Huo Zixi who had Secretary Wu call the front desk to order the coffee.
The reason is that there are too many beautiful women seeking Huo Zixi, of all shapes and sizes.
Few people come to see Huo Junyan. Just a few days ago, a wealthy heiress who had returned from studying abroad came to inspect the project, and the vice president in charge of promoting the cooperation project personally accompanied her.
But some gossipy people say that Qianjin's real intention is not what it seems.
After finishing his coffee, Shen Que glanced at the time; it was almost four o'clock. He got up and left.
Not long after, Huo Junyan got off work.
The next day, Shen arrived half an hour later than the day before and waited in the lobby as usual. At noon, he went directly to the staff restaurant with everyone else for lunch.
While she was cleaning the restroom, many girls glanced at her intentionally or stealing glances, but Chen Que didn't seem to care at all.
Back in the lobby, the receptionist brought me coffee, adding, "I added grapefruit today."
Shen Que picked up her coffee and suddenly noticed two girls sitting diagonally across from her, secretly taking pictures with their phones. She stared at the camera and gave a "V" sign.
The two girls hurriedly put away their phones, got up and left quickly, their professional high heels seemingly twisting slightly.
I squeezed into the elevator and then realized, oh my god, the smile in the photo just now looked just like a villain's.
The employees passing through the lobby frequently glanced sideways and whispered among themselves, immediately avoiding eye contact with Shen Que.
If you had seen Chen Que yesterday, at most there would have been a bunch of blooming roses in the lobby. They were beautiful, but far less attractive than the money he made.
Today, the rose has mutated into the Queen of the Night.
They even looked at them with provocative eyes.
Shen Que stated: I was merely responding to your gaze.
At 3:15, she got up and left.
Not long after, Huo Junyan got off work and paused for a few seconds as he passed the circular sofa area.
The receptionist at the hotel looked smugly at her colleague.
The third day was Saturday. Huo Junyan arrived at the company half an hour later, and all the middle and senior managers were there. A few ordinary employees who loved money and were eager to advance were also working overtime.
The lobby on the first floor was always empty, with only occasional security guards patrolling by.
In the afternoon, the receptionist rushed over, immediately looked towards the round sofa area, put down her bag, and messaged her colleague: "He's not here~ Are you sure Mr. Huo is in the company?"
On Sunday, Shen Que took Xingxing to play at the children's amusement park for a day.
Half of the employees at the Huo Group are working overtime.
On Monday, the receptionist professionally greeted visitors, called the relevant department leaders, or led them to the meeting room, etc. Her busy work left her no time to pay attention to anything else.
Shen Que was focused on eating a blueberry yam dish. She had seen this dish at the Huo Group's cafeteria last week, but the person in front of her had taken the last serving.
Suddenly I felt a gaze upon me. I looked up and saw several faces abruptly turn away and lower their heads.
She didn't pay any attention.
After lunch, I went to the restroom to tidy myself up a bit and reapplied my lipstick before leisurely making my way to the lobby, sitting in the circular lounge area, and taking out my phone.
The receptionist excitedly held up a cup of coffee, saying, "These are freeze-dried citrus fruits I brought back from the Fei□□ grain store. I hope you'll like them."
Shen Que raised her eyebrows, a hint of appreciation flashing in her eyes. The coffee had a refreshing orange flavor, which was her favorite.
The call was connected, but Shen Que only said "I'm on the first floor" before hanging up.
Less than a minute later, Huo Zixi rushed out of the elevator, furious and enraged. She gritted her teeth and whispered in a barely audible voice, "Why do you call me every time?"
Chen Que held his coffee, tilting his head slightly back.
“Don’t you have my uncle’s phone number? Call him,” Huo Zixi said, taking a breath. “What were you doing yesterday and the day before?”
Shen Que raised an eyebrow. "On the weekend, I do housework, oh, and take my son to the amusement park. What about you? You're not still working overtime, are you?"
Huo Zixi was speechless for a long time before finally saying, "My uncle is in the office."
"Mr. Huo, are you free to see me today?"
Huo Zixi was speechless again.
Shen Que put down his coffee and stood up. He pressed the button for the private elevator on the top floor with his fingerprint, then suddenly said, "Go up by yourself, I have something to do." He then stopped.
As the elevator doors closed, a distorted black figure was reflected in the stainless steel door, with slightly upturned red lips and a nonchalant sneer.
It seems they knew she had waited for two days; they probably waited for her again over the weekend.
Shen Que chuckled.
Huo Junyan couldn't stand seeing the woman who had drugged him "come back to life," get married, and have children.
It's like someone insulting you, and before you can retaliate, that person dies. You're still holding a grudge, only to find out you've been deceived again, and they've already moved on from what happened back then.
So you thought of a million ways to get revenge, and finally decided to humiliate her by making her divorce and marrying her.
Hehe~
The elevator doors opened, and Secretary Wu, who was standing guard at the door, happened to hear the last sound, but was startled.
That smile... He thought for a long time but couldn't describe it. He just felt that this kind of smile was most suitable for a "femme fatale".
When she saw him, she didn't hold back at all. She raised an eyebrow and glanced at him. Secretary Wu quickly made a gesture of invitation.
Pushing open the door to President Huo's office, Secretary Wu explained, "President Huo has an important meeting to attend, please wait a moment."
Shen Que did not respond. He glanced at the several hundred square meter office with its cool style, sat down in the middle of the chocolate-colored vintage sofa, and raised his wrist to check the time.
Secretary Wu brought over a cup of coffee made from Yirgacheffe coffee beans.
Seeing that she didn't respond, he calmly left the office, closed the door, and then grimaced, "Oh my god!"
There have been many rumors circulating in the company these past few days, all speculating about her relationship with President Huo.
As someone who witnessed both the "search for her in the airport" and the "interference in a marriage on a rainy night," Secretary Wu, based on the conversations between President Huo and Huo Zixi over the past two days, imagined a melodramatic, old-fashioned love story:
Huo Junyan, the heir to the Huo family, fell in love with Chu Ci, who came from a poor family, but of course, it wouldn't end well. Chu Ci left behind a cheap watch and declared herself dead.
We didn't hear the part of the conversation about how she died.
He's alive again.
Let's just pretend it was a misunderstanding back then, and that the female lead went abroad.
This is so melodramatic.
Secretary Wu only caught a fleeting glance at her at the airport, but he felt that her temperament was aloof and pure, which matched his imagination of "the white moonlight returning home".
But that night, beneath her calm and beautiful face lay a sense of madness that seemed to have no regard for anything—she invited the shady man who was trying to interfere in her marriage to have a showdown with her husband.
Tsk~ Bad woman.
I was stuck at the company for two days, thinking it would last forever, but it turned out to be a case of working hard for three days and resting for two. I don't know if it was unintentional or accidental.
Secretary Wu couldn't help but wonder, was this President Huo's white moonlight?
Half an hour later, Secretary Wu went in to change the coffee. The original cup hadn't been touched. He changed the coffee without looking at it and then came out again.
As Shen Que glanced at the time and prepared to leave, the office door was pushed open.
At 3:15 p.m., the orange sunlight bathed the tall and handsome Huo Junyan. In an instant, a line from a song flashed through her mind: "A once-in-a-lifetime encounter like this, so beautiful it stirs my heart."
Shen Que picked up the coffee, took a few steps closer to him, and held out the hand holding the coffee, "Freshly brewed coffee."
Huo Junyan stared at her blankly, his gaze slowly moving from her arm to her fair hand. There was still a distance between them, but he unconsciously moved closer.
Suddenly, he noticed many tiny scars on her hands.
There were six or seven spots on the fingertips, the edges of the palms, and the backs of the hands. Some were as small as the tip of a toothpick, while the largest was the size of a soybean.
Shen Que pretended not to notice the change in his eyes, and smiled with her eyes crinkling, "Secretary Wu's coffee tastes really good, here~ try it if you don't believe me." Apart from Xingxing, she had never spoken to anyone in such a gentle tone.
Secretary Wu smiled and nodded, inwardly shouting: Next time, I'll brew you a pot of Longjing tea!
Huo Junyan took the coffee, casually placed it on the table, and asked with a complicated expression, "Is there something you need?"
Shen Que rolled his eyes inwardly. Last week he said he wanted to marry her, but now he's keeping her at arm's length. Ha.
"You saved my son, and I've come to thank you."
Huo Junyan's eyes were gloomy, and he seemed to grit his teeth, but ultimately held back and didn't make a sound.
"I heard you were injured. Are you better now?"
"You heard it from someone else?" He was surprised that he said something so petty.
If the little boy wasn't Chu Ci's son, and the boy's parents came to thank him, he would have responded politely and courteously, and had someone prepare a gift for the child—this is the kind of upbringing he received from childhood.
"I saw it," Shen Que said, rubbing his nose and smiling as he changed his tune, "I only found out after watching the surveillance footage. I sincerely came to thank you three times."
Huo Junyan laughed in exasperation, "Three visits to the thatched cottage? And you even took a weekend off in between?"
The words were out in his mouth, but he gritted his teeth again. His emotions were constantly influenced by her, and he kept blurting things out, even he himself was tired of it.
"Do you know I've been waiting in your company lobby for two days?"
silence.
"President Huo has been extremely busy lately. It's my fault; I should have informed you sooner," Secretary Wu said, taking responsibility.
Shen Que flicked her long hair, raised the corners of her eyes, glanced at Huo Junyan, and parted her lips slightly, "Are you busy right now?"
Secretary Wu roared: Holy crap! Holy crap! Holy crap!
He made a mistake; even sycophantic remarks need to be tailored to the person and the situation!
Two little kids are arguing, what kind of cleverness is he trying to show off?
How should he respond to that? Especially with President Huo's temper, he definitely wouldn't say "not busy," and if he stubbornly insisted on saying "busy," the two of them would fall out, and he would be in deep trouble.
These past few days, President Huo has been "torturing" Huo Zixi quite a bit.
Isn't that enough to warn him?
Or you could just go all out and retreat, leaving them to do whatever they want.
“Mr. Huo, I actually have something else to discuss with you,” Shen Que said, glancing at Secretary Wu. “I would also like to ask Secretary Wu for your advice.”
"Thank you for the pardon. Sorry, I almost forgot. The meeting minutes for today haven't been distributed to all departments yet. I'll have to go now. Please let me know if you need anything."
Secretary Wu closed the door to President Huo's office and sighed deeply.
This isn't the return of a beautiful moonlight; it's clearly the resurrection of a black lotus!
