Chapter 49: First Experience in the Countryside

Chapter 49: First Experience in the Countryside

Wen Yan was lying on the bed, and before she could figure out anything, she yawned involuntarily.

I am indeed tired. Today I first caught a plane to the city, and then got on the special car arranged by the program team. It took me five or six hours to drive here.

She had been tense all the time and only now felt sleepy. She yawned again, then turned off the lights and went to sleep.

Never mind. When the enemy comes, we will stop them with our soldiers; when the water comes, we will block it with earth.

What Wen Yan didn't expect was that the soldiers didn't come, the water didn't come, but Qi Yu'an came.

The next day, Wen Yan was woken up by the crowing of chickens in the yard. Thanks to the kind couple, Wen Yan slept well last night, so even though it was still a little early, he did not feel sleepy. Instead, he felt refreshed after a good night's sleep.

He got up and washed. The director said they had to go to the fields today, so Wen Yan prepared to pick corn. It wasn't too hot in the morning, so going early would save him some suffering.

Wen Yan didn't plan to buy too much. He planned to break off some first, then rent a car from the director to go to the market, sell some first, then walk around and get a feel for the market.

After going downstairs, the couple got up. Brother Qian had already gone out, and Sister-in-law Qian was making breakfast. When she saw Wen Yan coming down, she warmly invited them to have breakfast together.

Wen Yan quickly refused. He felt embarrassed to eat for free here, so he decided to go to the market today to find out the prices here before making a decision.

Mrs. Qian was very enthusiastic and kept pulling people together. Wen Yan told her that the program crew had to pick corn from the fields and sell it at the market. They had to earn money to buy food and could not eat for free.

Mrs. Qian understood what was going on and stopped dragging him along. Instead, she asked, "So you're just going to pick some corn now, right?"

Wen Yan nodded, and Mrs. Qian enthusiastically stuffed a backpack and a snakeskin bag into his hands.

"How can you fill it with nothing? Here's what you can do."

Wen Yan then realized that she had nothing but was running out, and her face turned red.

"Thank you, sister-in-law. I'll return it when I'm done."

Mrs. Qian didn't think it was a big deal and asked him how to get to the market. He said the program team could take them there for 20 yuan each time.

When Mrs. Qian heard that such a good child wanted to break corn to sell, but the program crew not only did not give her food but also wanted to charge her, she was so angry that she immediately said that she would come back to have breakfast after breaking the corn, and that her husband would also go to the market to sell things, so she could just give the food to him and she would not charge him.

Wen Yan felt that this was taking advantage of others and shook her head repeatedly.

Hey, Sister Qian didn't listen to him. She pushed Wen Yan out the door and said, "It's settled. It's not hot yet. Go to the fields quickly. Come back for dinner when it's almost hot. Your brother Qian will be back soon."

Wen Yan wanted to say something, but facing Mrs. Qian's sincere smile, he didn't say anything in the end. At worst, he could just give the money to Brother Qian, Wen Yan thought.

Under the guidance of the staff, Wen Yan arrived at the site. Unexpectedly, Qin Yuechuan and Nan Qiao were already there. The two were good friends and agreed to work together this time. Before Wen Yan arrived, the two had already had a small group. After Wen Yan joined, the three of them talked and laughed together.

Seeing that they had nothing to pack, Wen Yan took out a snakeskin bag and gave it to them, while she carried the backpack herself.

The weather was getting warmer, and Wen Yan saw that he was almost done with his backpack, so he planned to go back first. Qin Yanchuan invited him to join them.

Wen Yan smiled and refused: "Teacher Qin, it's not that I don't want to, but my sister-in-law Qian said that brother Qian also wants to go to sell things, and wants me to go with him."

Qin Yuechuan could tell that the boy was showing off. He liked the boy very much, so he didn't care. He just smiled and said, "Then go ahead."

Speak of the devil, here he comes. As soon as Wen Yan came out of the cornfield, she saw Brother Qian who was sent over to help.

Seeing Wen Yan's backpack full of corn, he quickly reached out to take it.

Wen Yan: “…”

Wen Yan: "Brother Qian, I can carry it."

The man seemed not to hear: "Let's go, your sister-in-law is waiting for you to go back for dinner."

Wen Yan followed the man with tears in her eyes, because he was obviously just a stranger she had just met.

After dinner, the man put Wen Yan's backpack on the tricycle, which was already loaded with many things. The two were about to go out, and the woman came out with two straw hats: "Put on the straw hats, the sun is strong."

The two took it and put it on obediently. The woman put two ponytails behind them and reminded them, "Come back early for dinner."

The man said "OK" and rode away on his tricycle.

Wen Yan was in a good mood. He hadn't been to the countryside for a long time. The last time he had been to the countryside was when he was very young and went back to his grandmother's house with his mother. At that time, he loved to run around with the other children in the countryside, climb trees to catch cicadas, and go up the mountain to look for wild fruits.

He can't climb trees, but he looks good, so everyone likes to play with him and is willing to share their cicadas and fruits with him.

Now that I think about it, it was actually a rare happy time in my twenty-something years of life.

Wen Yan looked at the scenery all around him, the breeze blowing on his face, the wild flowers blooming on the roadside, and he felt so relaxed in his heart. Suddenly, he felt as if this life was worth living well.

When they arrived at the market, the man found a larger open space, parked his car there and prepared to start selling. Wen Yan didn't know what to do, so she followed the man's example and arranged the beans, eggplants, cabbages and other items on the car in a more orderly manner so that they looked more attractive. She also took the corn out of the basket and arranged them neatly.

Wen Yan didn't know how to sell it, but the man was very familiar with it. He took out a piece of cardboard and wrote down various prices on it.

Wen Yan was shocked when she saw that three corns cost ten yuan each.

Because the corn he usually bought in the supermarket cost at least ten yuan for two heads, and they were not fresh.

Seeing Wen Yan looking dazed, the man thought he was bored, so he asked him to go to the market and he would help him sell the corn he brought.

Wen Yan shook her head: "Let's sell it together."

The man looked at him and made sure that he really wanted to keep the things here. Without saying much, he hung a small horn on the front of the car to quote the price, and then the two of them spread out their pony bags and sat down to wait for others to buy food.

I don’t know if it was an illusion, but things were selling very fast today. Since the first person came to buy vegetables, people have been coming in continuously. During the busiest time, Wen Yan couldn’t even collect all the money.

Soon there were only a few leftover vegetables left in the car, and Wen Yan's corn was also sold out.

The man picked out the good ones from the remaining vegetables and put them aside for cheap disposal while talking to Wen Yan: "I'll take care of the rest here. It's still early, you can go for a walk. You city people probably have never seen a rural market."

Wen Yan didn't refuse this time: "Then Brother Qian, I'll go for a walk?"

The eldest brother waved his hand at him, signaling him to go quickly.

Wen Yan didn't delay, she was also going to learn about the prices here. She couldn't just keep eating at other people's restaurants without paying, what kind of person would she be then?
