Chapter 7: Past Events
Wen Yan followed Qi Yu'an to the garden behind the banquet hall.
There was a small round table and rattan chairs outside, and Qi Yu'an just found a spot and sat down.
He was a little confused about what Qi Yu'an was trying to do. This time when he came back, he clearly realized that this man was too attentive to him.
That's not this guy's style.
In his impression, Qi Yu'an rarely has emotions, as if nothing is worth his attention. He is always calm and rational when making decisions, and will never drag his feet once he has made up his mind.
He admitted that she was very attractive and he was moved. But she also made him sad.
As expected, the more handsome a man is, the more poisonous he is. Wen Yan wanted to shake his head and express his feelings, but the occasion was not appropriate, so he had to give up the idea.
Qi Yu'an said nothing, and Wen Yan also said nothing.
I have nothing to do with him, why should I talk to him? Aren't you tired?
But time passed by, and Qi Yu'an still had no intention of speaking. Wen Yan could not stand any longer, so she pulled out a chair and sat down.
"Isn't it that Mr. Qi is talking about wanting me to enjoy the breeze, appreciate the moon and talk about ideals?"
"Is it not possible? The moonlight is beautiful tonight."
Wen Yan rolled her eyes and said, "Please be alone. Thank you."
"Mr. Qi may have found the wrong person. I shouldn't be the one to accompany you to appreciate the moon. Or maybe the person Mr. Qi wanted to find wasn't here, so he can just pick someone else to fill in."
Qi Yu'an's heart suddenly tightened. Was this what he actually thought?
Wenyan smiled gently, as if she didn't care, but no one could tell her true mood.
"Have you always thought so?"
"That's not what I think. This is a well-known fact, Mr. Qi."
Wen Yan brought it up suddenly, but said it frankly, which made Qi Yu'an feel panicked.
"It's not like that, Wen Yan, back then..."
"I was short of money back then, and I should thank Mr. Qi for helping me. As a result, I was able to accompany my mother for three more years." Wen Yan looked up at the neon lights in the distance with a nostalgic look on her face.
He quickly came to his senses and turned to look at Qi Yu'an: "I sincerely thank you. After all, my mother's medical expenses alone are several million every year, not to mention the expenses of arranging foreign expert consultations, senior nutritionists, and nurses for me."
Wen Yan paused, and smiled sincerely at Qi Yu'an: "To be honest, if Mr. Qi hadn't supported me, even if I entered the entertainment industry at that time, I would never have made so much money."
Qi Yu'an was stunned when he saw Wen Yan's smiling face. It was still the gentle face in his memory, but Wen Yan had never smiled at him sincerely in all these years except for perfunctorily.
"When I signed with the company, the talent scout who approached me told me that if I wanted to make money, the fastest way was to enter the entertainment industry. With my qualifications, I would definitely be famous in two or three years. I said I couldn't wait two or three years. I needed a lot of money right now."
Wen Yan lowered her head and thought for a moment: "The talent scout told me very bluntly that the entertainment industry is not only about making money by being famous in movies. If I am willing to lower my bottom line, there will be many rich people willing to give me money."
Qi Yu'an felt distressed when he heard this. Before signing the agreement, he had of course investigated Wen Yan, but the investigation only presented him with a few pages of paper, which was far less painful than hearing it with his own ears.
What I thought was a good thing to compromise with has now become a thorn in my heart.
Wen Yan looked up and met Qi Yu'an's distressed eyes, and was speechless for a moment.
Maybe he liked himself a little, but it was too late.
Wen Yan smiled with relief: "Mr. Qi, you don't have to look at me like that. You know, I haven't suffered much, so I really thank you."
"I don't sympathize with you, I just feel sorry for you." Qi Yu'an tried to explain: "I should have stood on your side at that time."
"This relationship is a transaction between us. I crossed the line. You did nothing wrong. I take full responsibility." Wen Yan looked at him gently. "You have no obligation to help me, so you don't have to feel guilty now. It's your own right to help someone. You don't owe me anything."
"I've said so much today to tell you that it may be a bit self-indulgent, but you should stop doing unnecessary things in the future. What happened between us is in the past, and I'm fine now."
"Yanyan, it's not what you think. I know I did something wrong before. Can you give me a chance to explain?"
Qi Yu'an was very anxious. He could hear that Wen Yan was trying to distance herself from him.
He didn't want to have too much to do with him, so he just wanted to characterize their past as a simple transaction and didn't want to accept his kindness because he could be a good person himself.
Gently tell him that he doesn't want the past or the future, he just doesn't want himself anymore.
Qi Yu'an panicked. It was the first time he fell in love with someone. He didn't even know it was love at first. By the time he realized it, he had already lost it.
Wen Yan sighed: "Since we are talking about this, let's start the conversation today. Since Mr. Qi wants to explain, let's start."
When it really came to this, Qi Yu'an didn't know where to start.
But he knew that this might be his only chance to explain.
Wen Yan seems to be gentle and easy to talk to, but in fact she is determined and never gives up.
In that situation back then, the entire Internet was blackmailing him and the level of cyber violence was unprecedented. It was no exaggeration to say that it was a life-and-death situation. But after he refused to lend a hand, he resolutely walked into the rain and never looked back.
Even when I later approached him and offered to help, he refused outright, saying, "It's such a small matter, so I won't bother Mr. Qi."
At that time, he was arrogant and thought that he had already given Wen Yan a chance and that it was Wen Yan who did not know what was good for her. He wanted to see how Wen Yan would solve this problem without his help.
He didn't think Wen Yan could solve the problem. He felt that Wen Yan would come back to him sooner or later, and he would take action then. Now he just wanted to weaken Wen Yan's rage.
He really didn't do anything when the situation was at its worst, but Wen Yan didn't look for him in the end.
He didn't know how Wen Yan survived the six months of cyberbullying, but he knew that from then on, Wen Yan really didn't need him anymore.
"It's not that I didn't want to help you back then, I just wanted you to come to me first, and if you do, I will help you." Qi Yu'an knew that this sounded like a jerk, but he had no choice but to tell the truth.
"Haha" Wen Yan laughed: "I didn't look for you? Mr. Qi, don't you feel guilty for saying that? I clearly remember that you were the first person I looked for."
"I was angry at the time, Wenyan, I didn't mean to hurt you."
"That's right. Xiao Zhiyuan is the one in your heart. I am just a paid supporter, so what's the use of me? If that's the case, Qi Yu'an, you should stop pretending in front of me."
Wen Yan was extremely angry, and there was anger in her voice.
"No, Yanyan, Xiao Zhiyuan is not the one in my heart." Qi Yu'an sensed Wen Yan's impatience: "I helped him at that time because he saved me when I was young."
Wen Yan glanced at him sarcastically: "Qi Yu'an, do you dare to say that you didn't have any feelings for him all these years before?"
