Chapter 61 Falling into the Water
Zhu Ci took the red envelope before Zhu Wan could, and said sweetly and obediently, "Thank you, Grandpa Wen. Grandpa Wen is so kind."
The red envelope in my hand was visibly thick.
Zhu Ci squinted her eyes happily.
Grandma Zhu introduced the young man beside Grandpa Wen to her three granddaughters, "This is Brother Wenhe."
As soon as Zhu Ci entered the private room, her gaze couldn't help but linger on Wen He.
Under her grandmother's gaze, Zhu Wan called out "Brother Wenhe".
Wenhe looked at the girl and said, "Hello, Sister A-Yuan."
Grandma Zhu said with a smile, "Ah Yuan, Grandpa Wen gave you such a big red envelope, go and pour Grandpa Wen a cup of tea."
Zhu Wan obediently got up and poured tea for Grandpa Wen.
She held the teacup with both hands, saying, "Grandpa Wen, have some tea."
The little girl's back was as straight as a bamboo shoot, and she was poised, elegant, and polite.
So well-behaved that it was endearing, Old Master Wen accepted the tea, saying, "This tea tastes even better than usual."
May the old lady smile.
For many years, Grandpa Wen had been hoping for a granddaughter in the family, as his sons were all giving him headaches.
Young girls are better.
Grandpa Wen then asked the young girl about her past life.
Grandpa Wen wiped his eyes and said, "A-Yuan has suffered a lot."
Zhu Wan shook her head at the caring and loving gaze of her grandfather.
Zhu Ci glanced at her sister who was quietly drinking tea and Zhu Wan who was talking to Grandpa Wen, and noticed that only she was holding the red envelope the whole time. She quietly put the red envelope into her pocket.
She glanced at her brother Wenhe, her heart pounding with barely suppressed excitement and shyness.
She had always wanted to attend Wenhe's concert, but she could never get a ticket.
Tickets for Wenhe's concert are extremely hard to come by.
She never expected to meet Wenhe in real life.
They even sat at the same table to eat.
Zhu Ci smiled, her lips curving into a smile, and tidied her hair behind her ear. "Brother Wenhe, I love your singing! Can I have an autographed photo and a picture with you?"
Wenhe nodded at Zhu Ci after hearing her words.
Zhu Ci eagerly opened her phone, straightening her back a little when her grandmother looked over.
Grandpa Wen laughed heartily, "Ahe, don't restrain the children. It's good for the young people to be together and have a lively time."
“Ah Yuan, please sit down. It’s Grandpa Wen who asked too many questions and made you stand for so long.”
Grandma Zhu asked Grandpa Wen how he injured his leg.
Grandpa Wen waved his hand, "My leg is fine. It was raining a few days ago, and the road was slippery. I wasn't careful and slipped and fell."
"He's in very good health."
Grandma Zhu said, "Our old bones can't withstand a fall."
Zhu Ci held her phone; her seat was quite far from her brother Wenhe.
She pleaded with Zhu Fan, "Sister, can I switch seats with you?"
She had deliberately walked in front of Zhu Wan so that she could sit next to her grandmother.
At this moment, she no longer had time to comfort her grandmother.
If she gets a photo and autograph from Wenhe, she can already imagine her classmates looking at her with envy and jealousy, trying to please her and begging her when she goes to school next Monday.
Zhu Ci's smile became even sweeter.
Master Wen smiled and looked at Zhu Fan, "A-Fan, you met Crane Boy when you were little and even gave him a gift. Do you remember him?"
Zhu Wan sat down next to her grandmother.
Zhu Fan, holding a teacup, sat down next to A Yuan and shook his head under Grandpa Wen's gaze.
Grandma Zhu recalled the past, "That year, Afan was 9 years old and He Xiaozi was 13 years old. I asked Afan to prepare a good gift, but she gave He Xiaozi a Lego box instead. He Xiaozi spent a whole day assembling the model car, and Afan took it home that night."
"What kind of gift is this?"
Zhu Fan met Wen He's gaze and gave him a polite smile.
Grandpa Wen recalled that his grandson and Afan had just sat together, both quietly drinking tea, polite yet distant.
He sighed, "In the blink of an eye, the children have grown up so much."
"We're getting old too."
The old lady was also moved.
As Ji Shu parked her car and entered the private room, the dishes were served one after another.
Zhu Ci got the autograph and wanted to take more photos with Brother Wenhe.
Grandma Zhu coughed lightly, "Aci, put down your phone and eat."
Under her grandmother's watchful gaze, Zhu Ci was reluctant to put down her phone.
She felt a pang of jealousy when she saw her grandmother serving food to Zhu Wan.
Zhu Fan picked up a piece of fish with chopsticks.
Master Wen asked with a smile, "Does A-Fan also like to eat fish?"
Zhu Fanchao nodded.
"Crane Boy also loves to eat fish and vegetarian food. You two have very similar tastes."
Grandma Zhu glanced at Grandpa Wen, who was smiling like a cunning old fox.
A-Yuan saw her sister quietly eating.
She also buried her head in her food.
She wanted another bowl of rice, but she had already eaten two.
The rice was turned to the front, and Zhu Fan picked up A Yuan's bowl.
Zhu Ci saw her sister's actions and secretly mocked Zhu Wan.
A country bumpkin who's never eaten anything good.
I've already eaten two bowls of rice, and I can still eat more.
She put down her chopsticks, gracefully wiped her mouth, and feigned surprise, "Sister, you have a big appetite today."
Zhu Ci's words drew everyone's attention to Zhu Fan at the table.
Zhu Ci smiled innocently yet elegantly.
The bowl in Zhu Fan's hand was overflowing with rice.
She looked calmly at Zhu Ci and said with a smile, "Grandpa Wen's food was so delicious that I couldn't resist."
Zhu Fan noticed that A Yuan's ears were a little red, and knowing that A Yuan was embarrassed, he placed the rice in front of him.
She used her own bowl to add half a bowl of rice to her bowl.
Grandpa Wen was delighted. “It’s good that you can eat. I’m so happy that you like to eat. Nowadays, young people are always trying to lose weight and not eating. They’re so thin that they look like they could be blown away by the wind.”
I hope the old lady agrees with what Mr. Wen said.
Grandpa Wen added another half bowl of rice to his grandson's bowl, saying, "A grown man like you eats less than those two young girls. Aren't you ashamed?"
Zhu Fan remained calm and switched the rice with A Yuan.
Wenhe saw him changing the rice.
She met the man's quiet eyes and touched her nose.
Zhu Wan is spoiled by her older sister and is so happy she could die.
Zhu Ci racked her brains to find a topic to talk about with Brother Wenhe, "Grandpa Wen, is Brother He super strict with his body management?"
Grandpa Wen looked at his son.
Wenhe swallowed the food in his mouth. "Grandpa, I'm not on a diet."
The man's pleasant voice made Zhu Ci's heart pound.
Zhu Ci realized that her topic had made Grandpa Wen unhappy with Brother Wenhe.
After lunch, Grandma Zhu asked Zhu Fan and Zhu Wan to walk around the lake a few more times to aid digestion.
The scenery and air here are comfortable and pleasant.
The restaurant is built on the lake and surrounded by water.
Zhu Wan stared intently at the plump carp in the lake. "These fish aren't afraid of strangers at all."
Zhu Fan grabbed a handful of fish food and scattered it into the lake.
Before long, a large group of plump koi carp surrounded me.
"Ah Yuan, I'm going to the restroom."
Zhu Wan held up her phone to record a video, nodding and agreeing.
Koi fish bring good luck.
"Brother Wenhe, I don't think these photos I took are good at all. In one of them, the eyes are closed. Could you take another one with me?"
"I promise, this is the last one."
As Zhu Fan passed the two, Wen He stepped aside to make way for him.
Zhu Fanchao said thank you to him.
You're welcome.
The man lowered his gaze and looked into the girl's amber eyes, which, in the sunlight, were as cold and serene as glass.
Zhu Fan nodded slightly and left the wooden walkway.
Zhu Ci held up her phone, pointing it at herself and her brother Wenhe.
Wenhe didn't look at the camera.
Zhu Ci pursed her lips, trying to find another reason.
Wenhe had already walked towards the corridor.
Zhu Ci felt a little regretful that she had looked down at the photo and hadn't called out to Brother Wenhe in time.
She walked arrogantly over to Zhu Wan, who was having fun playing with a group of silly fish, and asked, "What's so interesting or photogenic about these fat, silly fish?"
She proudly showed Zhu Wan selfies of herself and her brother Wenhe, scrolling through them one by one.
"These are all selfies of me and my brother Wenhe."
Zhu Wan stepped aside, saying, "These fish aren't stupid; they're very intelligent and cute."
When Zhu Ci mentioned Brother Wenhe, she couldn't help but go to see Wenhe.
When she saw her brother Wenhe sitting on the veranda, drinking tea with Grandpa and Grandma Wen, she couldn't take her eyes off him.
Zhu Ci responded to the gaze that Grandpa had given her with a sweet and obedient smile.
Grandpa Wen smiled and said he wished Grandma good fortune to have three such sensible and well-behaved granddaughters.
Grandma Zhu sighed and said, "Old Wen, don't take your blessings for granted."
Grandpa Wen pointed to his own son: "A bunch of brats in the family, unruly and each one of them has grown up and thinks they can do whatever they want."
Zhu Ci couldn't hear what Grandpa Wen, Grandma Wenhe, and Brother Wenhe were talking about, and looked away with some disappointment.
She scoffed at Zhu Wan, "They're just a bunch of fish, and you think they're intelligent and cute? Do you even understand that, you country bumpkin?"
Zhu Wan moved to the side.
The wooden boardwalk leading to the lake has no railings; two people standing together are not crowded, but it is dangerous.
Zhu Wan remained calm, not wanting to argue with Zhu Ci: "It's your business if you don't like it, don't bother me."
Zhu Ci held up her phone and held it out in front of Zhu Wan, before she could finish showing it off to her.
Zhu Wan frowned, annoyed that she didn't want to look at Zhu Ci's phone, but also worried that Zhu Ci's action might drop the phone into the water. "Don't drop the phone into the water—"
Before she could finish speaking, Zhu Ci's phone slipped and fell into the lake.
Zhu Ci instinctively reached out to catch it, but her foot landed on the edge of the boardwalk.
Feeling weightless, she instinctively grabbed Zhu Wan, who was standing beside her—
Zhu Fan came out of the restroom and heard two splashes of water falling from the lakeside boardwalk.
