A long line of carriages slowly made its way toward the edge of the city.
In the spacious carriage in front, He Fengling held his own child, looking at the terrified person.
He mocked her mercilessly: "Look at how pathetic you are."
"What future do I want? I don't want anything anymore." His voice was filled with grief and indignation. Judging from the extent of his suffering, he was clearly Prince Jing, Wang Yaozhi, who was dragged around by his mother to find girls every day.
Looking at him, He Fengling asked curiously, "Didn't His Majesty say that you wouldn't be going to the border town for the time being?"
Wang Yaozhi said anxiously, "That's why I'm urging you to leave quickly. If you're late, my mother will catch up with us, and I won't be able to leave."
Upon seeing his friend's expression, he lunged at him, ready to grab his neck: "He Fengling, let me tell you, I let it go last time you gloated, I was magnanimous and forgave you, but if you dare to abandon me again this time, I'll poison you and break off all ties with you."
He Fengling easily brushed his arm away: "Alright, no need to get agitated. Your mother won't come after us."
"That's because you don't understand my mother." Wang Yaozhi looked terrified.
He was still looking out the window anxiously, fearing that his mother would come after him now.
He Fengling said, "Don't worry, with your brother here, your mother can't do anything."
He said nonchalantly, "Do you think you'd still be in my carriage if your mother wanted to hunt you down?"
Looking at his bewildered expression.
He said coldly, "If your royal brother hadn't secretly sent people to protect you, do you really think that with your mediocre skills, you could have escaped from the people sent by your mother?"
Wang Yaozhi: "..."
That seems to make sense.
But he still couldn't quite believe it: "Was it really my imperial brother who secretly helped me?"
He Fengling replied bluntly, "Otherwise what?"
Wang Yaozhi thought about it and realized that it was indeed true.
She gave a haughty snort: "At least he has some conscience."
Hearing his irritating words, He Fengling said, "It's only because your royal brother dotes on you and lets you run wild outside, otherwise you'd see what happens."
If this were my own younger brother, I'd beat him up every day.
Unlike His Majesty, who speaks harshly but is utterly biased towards his younger brother.
Wang Yaozhi rolled his eyes: "Are all of you older brothers like this?"
They bully others whenever they want, but only lend a helping hand when someone truly needs it.
However, the thought that it was his own imperial brother who secretly let him out came to mind.
She was quite happy: "Then when I come back, I'll bring my brother lots of good things."
He was happy, but inside the palace, the Empress Dowager was furious when she learned that her youngest son had run away.
When Feng Yuheng arrived, he saw the Empress Dowager with a dark face, looking extremely angry.
He asked knowingly, "Who angered Mother? Could it be that I angered Mother?"
Empress Dowager Du looked at her son and said in a cold tone, "So Your Majesty knew."
Feng Yuheng laughed heartily and waved the crowd away.
Upon arriving at Empress Dowager Du's side, he acted as if they were any other mother and son, bringing her tea and saying, "Mother, please calm down."
Although Empress Dowager Du was very angry, she still accepted the tea.
But then she thought about how she had been so careful, especially with her youngest son, and how she didn't want him to leave.
Unexpectedly, the eldest son, who had made a promise, went back on his word.
Thinking of this, she angrily put down her teacup: "Tell me, why did you let Jingheng leave?"
Feng Yuheng said, "Empress Dowager has also seen it. He has no desire to stay in the palace, so why should we restrain him?"
Seeing that her expression was still not good, he said, "Mother, I know you are worried about Jingheng's marriage and want him to get married, but you also know his temperament. If he is unwilling, why force him?"
Empress Dowager Du frowned: "At this age, how can you still not be married?"
Feng Yuheng countered, "As my younger brother, Prince Jing of the Great Feng Dynasty, why must he get married at this age? Even if he doesn't get married, I will guarantee him a life of wealth and honor."
Empress Dowager Du looked at her eldest son with displeasure: "He is spoiled by His Majesty."
Although he said that, he wasn't as angry as before.
After all, brotherly harmony is more important than anything else.
Compared to the sordid affairs of brothers scheming against each other or turning against each other, as a mother, I naturally hope that my brothers can live in harmony and love.
She could only sigh, "I'm just worried that he's been running around outside all year round, and he's gotten too wild and doesn't want to come back."
She only has two sons. Her younger son is in poor health and is not by her side most of the year. She always feels indebted to him and wants to give him everything she thinks is good.
Feng Yuheng said, "Mother, Jingheng is not an unreasonable person. Let him play for a few more years. When he finds a girl he loves, he will naturally be willing to come back."
Since her eldest son had already said so, what else could Empress Dowager Du say?
He glanced at his son, who was drinking tea, and asked, "Has that boy from the He family gone back to the border town?"
"Um."
"Your mother knows you favor the He family, but you should also consider the old ministers in the court. Don't be so obvious. It's not good to have them coming to complain every few days."
Feng Yuheng said indifferently, "I will show favoritism to the He family and to Qi Chen right in front of them."
"If it weren't for Qi Chen back then, I would have died from poisoning long ago. Not to mention, if it weren't for the He family, it's uncertain whether I could have even sat on this throne. The reason they can worry about things that don't concern them every day is because the He family is guarding the border."
"I favor the He family, and they should be grateful. If I were to become wary of the He family and want to deal with them, they should be worried that one day I would turn against them."
