Shulan had only pretended to faint, but unexpectedly she actually fell asleep.
When she woke up, she found herself being carried on someone's back and could hear the little maid's worried instructions: "Mother, walk carefully, don't bump into Miss."
She choked back tears and whispered, "Miss is so pitiful."
Eight days have passed since the wedding, and their young lady has not only failed to meet the general, but now this has happened. It's heartbreaking to think about it.
The woman carrying her on her back didn't speak, but sighed, "Alas!"
Shulan also wanted to sigh.
This sleep wasn't in vain; at least it felt like a dream, allowing me to absorb some of the body's memories.
She arrived in the Great Feng Dynasty and was on her way to the border fortress.
Suddenly, the voice of the leading burly man rang out: "Reporting to the General, the Lady has been found."
Upon hearing the words "Great General," Shulan looked up to find the person.
A living, breathing ancient general—she wanted to see him.
Looking up, I saw a tall, handsome horse, puffing out its breath.
Sitting on horseback was a tall man with a full beard, whose age was impossible to guess. His name was He Fengmian.
The man had his hair tied up, wore a silver crown, had sharp eyes, and a high nose. Even though his beard covered his face, it was clear that he was good-looking and a handsome man.
Clad in silver armor and a cloak, exuding a chilling and imposing aura... but she had only sized him up halfway and was thinking that this person would be difficult to deal with when...
Then a mocking voice came from the side: "Madam, tell me what's going on here?"
Shulan then noticed that there was another person following behind the bearded man. He was dressed in a blue robe, had a handsome appearance, and looked like a scholar who was probably a strategist or advisor.
The two men, riding horses, looked down at him from their elevated position.
If this were the original owner of the body, she would definitely be trembling with fear, just like Xiao Cui and her daughter, like a quail.
But she simply got off the woman and flicked away some grass clippings that had somehow gotten stuck to her arm.
He said frankly, "I wanted to escape, but I didn't expect to be ambushed as soon as I entered the dense forest."
She looked up at the bearded He Fengmian and said with a half-smile, "Could it be that the General specially sent someone to kill me?"
Upon hearing this, the little girl and Chen Ma stared wide-eyed, their eyes filled with terror.
He Fengmian's gaze was cold and sharp, but before he could speak, the burly man leading the group said angrily, "You're spouting nonsense! Our General is not that kind of person."
Ignoring the look of utter disbelief on everyone's faces, Shulan smiled faintly and said, "Is that so?"
Pointing to the man he had tied up not far away, he said, "These must be your soldiers. They knocked me unconscious as soon as they came over, intending to bury me. How do you explain that?"
The reason she turned the tables on me was simply because after this incident, no matter how she explained herself, no one would believe her.
Only when the perpetrator tells the truth can her innocence be proven.
Her tone and words infuriated the burly man and everyone else: "You're talking nonsense."
If she weren't a young woman, and the wife of a great general, she probably would have pounced on her and beaten her up long ago.
They were about to step forward and wake the bound man to prove their general's innocence.
Shulan said, "I'll do it."
He walked up to the bound man and kicked him in the Chengjiang acupoint, and the man on the ground immediately woke up with a groan.
Everyone was stunned; the footwork looked like it had been practiced.
Shulan ignored the wide-eyed stares of the crowd and looked at He Fengmian: "General, now that he's awake, I'm feeling dizzy, so I won't stay here any longer."
He gave a fake smile: "With the General's intelligence, you should know whether what he said is true or false."
Just as he was about to turn and leave, he suddenly said, "Oh, right."
As if she had just thought of something, she came over to He Fengmian and said, "General, although it was a marriage bestowed by His Majesty and neither of us wanted it, I am still your lawfully wedded wife, the proper wife of the General."
"Isn't the general completely wrong to leave a weak and timid woman on a carriage and ignore her, letting everyone despise and hate her and make things difficult for her at every turn?"
Upon hearing this, He Fengmian frowned slightly and asked in a low voice, "What do you want?"
The voice sounds quite young.
Shulan had come to his side, her smile even brighter: "It's nothing, I just want to pay it back."
Before anyone could react, she kicked the man's shin: "Consider this kick something the General owes me."
She was fast, but the man on horseback was even faster, able to dodge with agility even in his heavy armor.
He instinctively wanted to attack, but when he saw her bright, smiling face and the horse's hoof about to kick her, his gaze darkened.
He nimbly dismounted, grabbed her slender waist, and dodged several meters away.
The startled horse immediately took off running away into the distance.
Once she was safe, He Fengmian immediately released her.
He frowned and coldly rebuked, "Want to die?"
Shu Lan's expression remained unchanged, still smiling: "I'm not the type of person who holds grudges. I settle scores on the spot, and that kick was enough to vent my anger from all this time."
She actually wanted to wait for the horse to get spooked so that the man could dismount and take the opportunity to punch her in the face, but she changed her mind because he saved her first time.
With her smile undiminished, she looked at He Fengmian and said, "The General doesn't like me, and I don't necessarily have a good impression of him either. But since His Majesty has already bestowed this marriage upon us, I hope that the General and I can get along peacefully and become partners."
He Fengmian looked at her properly for the first time, a murderous glint flashing in his cold, sharp eyes: "With you?"
Shulan saw clearly but was not afraid. She simply nodded and said, "Yes, it's up to me. As for whether I have any value, General, you may wish to take a look."
After saying this, he led the terrified mother and daughter away, leaving everyone stunned.
