Chapter 3 Showing Off Gets You Struck by Lightning

As the saying goes, showing off will get you struck by lightning.

Although Shulan wasn't struck by lightning, she got a slap on the head and got to show off her power once again.

The price was that he wilted as soon as he got on the carriage.

I slept in a daze for a day and a night before I felt a little better.

In her dream, she not only received all of the original owner's memories, but also dreamed of her family members.

Seeing them standing in front of their own tombstones, weeping bitterly, I felt incredibly sad. I could only hope that they could pull themselves together and recover.

"Is Miss alright?" Xiao Cui's voice interrupted her thoughts.

The girl had red eyes and was kneeling there like a round-faced rabbit.

"It's nothing," Shulan said, her voice a little hoarse.

He knew he had to take his medicine, otherwise, if he followed the main group on their journey, he would either die or lose half his life.

Having barely survived, she didn't want to suffer like this again.

After thinking for a moment, a brilliant idea struck him, and he said to the maid beside him, "Xiao Cui, go and find General He or that handsome gentleman beside him, and tell him that I have something very important to discuss with them."

Although Xiao Cui was scared, she still nodded and went to call for help.

A short while later, Chen Ma brought over the porridge, her face full of tenderness.

Shulan said obediently, "Thank you, Aunt Chen."

Chen Ma was an extremely taciturn woman. She hesitated for a moment, but finally couldn't help but say, "Miss, you must take good care of your health."

"Don't worry, Aunt Chen, I'll be fine. You all need to be fine too."

Having received all the memories, she didn't feel that the original owner was innocent or pitiful; on the contrary, she felt sorry for the mother and daughter.

Because the original owner's mother had been kind to Chen Ma, she did not leave the mansion when she reached marriageable age in order to take care of her benefactor's daughter. Instead, she married a servant in the Xie family, her only wish being to take care of her mistress.

Several years ago, her husband died saving the young master of the Xie family, and he continued to support the original owner with the reward money given by the Xie family.

But the original owner of this body was timid and not very bright.

She was afraid of the legendary general who killed countless people and washed his hands with human blood every day. She cried all day long but did not resist. However, she dreamed that her beloved Meng Lang said he liked her. She immediately mustered up the courage to run away.

He was so love-struck that he didn't even consider taking Chen Ma and her daughter with him; he only wanted to grab the gold and silver and run away.

People like that deserve to be hit on the head.

The only thing she couldn't understand was that the Xie family and the He family were from completely different social classes. Not to mention mortal enemies, Xie Shilang's current father-in-law, the Right Chancellor, was in direct conflict with He Fengmian's father and grandfather, General He, as well as his old friend, the current Left Chancellor. They were mortal enemies.

Why would the emperor grant such a marriage that was so mismatched in terms of social status?

What's even stranger is that the He family agreed to the marriage without saying a word.

Putting aside He Fengmian's grandfather, General He, even the legendary Madam He, who was a very domineering and wise old woman, why would she agree to let her grandson marry Xie Shulan, who was so useless and had no presence?

Xiao Cui's voice rang out from outside the door: "Miss, Commander Liu has arrived."

Shulan snapped out of her thoughts and slowly dismounted from the carriage.

It was a chilly early April morning in the mountains, so Xiao Cui thoughtfully draped a thick cloak over his shoulders.

Liu Moyang bowed and said, "Greetings, Madam."

Shulan adjusted her cloak and said, "No need for formalities. I invited Commander Liu here today because I have a favor to ask."

Liu Moyang looked at the Xie family girl in front of him, who seemed indifferent and completely different from a different person.

I thought to myself, with your attitude, people who don't know better would think that we are the ones asking for a favor, rather than you asking for one.

But he was a smiling fox, and still politely said, "Please speak, Madam."

"I would like to trouble Commander Liu to send someone to the pharmacy in the city to get me some medicine. Of course, as a token of my gratitude, I can give you a little trinket."

It's just a matter of getting a few doses of medicine; it's naturally convenient.

Liu Moyang was curious about what this lady would give him.

But all I saw was her squatting down and picking up a small pebble from the side.

While drawing on the ground, he said in a light tone, "I've seen many people carrying crossbows before. Although they are powerful, they are very large and heavy, making them inconvenient to move around in, especially when raiding enemy camps. They are not ideal weapons."

So, Commander Liu had no interest in turning this crossbow into a weapon that allowed for one-armed combat? It would have reduced the soldiers' burden while still being quite lethal.

Liu Moyang, who had been smiling, now stopped smiling and asked, "What does Madam mean?"

She looked at Liu Moyang and said directly, "Liu Duwei is such a smart man, he naturally knows what I mean."

Then she smiled brightly and said, "Don't be nervous. I was just thinking that since I said I would cooperate with the General, I should be sincere and let the General and Commandant Liu know that I, Xie Shulan, am not a useless person."

Her uncle, besides being a Sanda champion, is also a fanatical enthusiast of cold weapons. He's almost forty and still unmarried, and his house is full of all kinds of cold weapons. He claims he wants to spend his life with his weapons.

She learned Sanda (Chinese kickboxing) from him since she was a child, and naturally, he showed off his cold weapons to her to the point that he wouldn't let her touch them, but he would talk about them in her ear every day, so much so that she was very familiar with their structural diagrams.

The original owner overheard a soldier complaining that the crossbow was too heavy, and Shulan wanted to take this opportunity to show He Fengmian and the others how useful she was.

Liu Moyang looked at the very abstract drawing on the ground, but he could tell at a glance that it was different from the crossbows they had now.

His gaze gradually changed, and he said with restraint, "Madam, could you please draw this in a more detailed way?"

The tone became more sincere.

Shulan nodded: "Okay, but I need a writing brush, ink, paper and inkstone."

The Great Phoenix Dynasty was not so harsh on women, and there was no tradition that women were inferior to men. They worshipped people who were talented and virtuous.
