Chapter 48: The Flower Girl

Chapter 48: The Flower Girl

This is indeed good news!

Yu Wan asked Jin Yifei to wait a moment, then jogged out to gather the workers together.

"We have very important guests at our restaurant tomorrow, not just for our restaurant, but for the entire county and for all of us. So everyone needs to be on your guard, understand?"

Everyone answered in unison, "Understood, Boss Lady!"

Jin Yifei heard loud voices coming from outside the door, and then looked around the room.

He knew that when Yu Wan took over the restaurant, she chose a private room as the place to handle various affairs on a daily basis.

Every time he came, he noticed subtle changes in the room.

A few days ago, there were bellflowers, peonies, and tree peonies on the table, but today they have been replaced with chrysanthemums. There are many other changes in the details as well.

Such a woman who loves life can still put thought into every little detail, even if she lives in a very small space.

The girl returned to the house with a smile on her face. "Let's continue our conversation."

Jin Yifei laughed, "Your guys are quite good, and you treat them very well. Ever since I came here, I've been idling around every day, and I really want to come work for you. Awan, please consider me again? Wages aren't important, as long as you provide food and lodging."

"You're joking again." Yu Wan was used to his many words. "I've said it before, you're better off being a young master. These dirty and tiring jobs really aren't suitable for you."

Jin Yifei didn't mention it again. He talked for a while about his interesting travel experiences, promised to send over the notes and maps another day, and then left.

Yu Wan made sure that every corner of the restaurant was flawless, checking it carefully many times.

Finally back in my seat to catch my breath, I saw that the flowers on the table had been replaced with lotus flowers.

Recently, different flowers have been placed on her desk every day.

She didn't know who it was.

"Boss lady! I need your help urgently!" Xue Xiujun rushed in, following her gaze...

"Boss lady, do you like these flowers? If you don't, I'll throw them away for you."

Yu Wan looked away and continued flipping through the ledger: "Did you arrange these flowers?"

This person is the most attentive and has the sweetest tongue in the shop; you must be doing all this because you need something from him.

No need to guess, it's probably another advance payment for wages.

"How could that be? I'm busy to death every day. I work at the restaurant during the day, and then I have to eat at the entrance, and then at night..."

He stopped abruptly halfway through his sentence.

Yu Wan stopped what she was doing, looked up and scrutinized him.

"Tell me honestly, do you do something shady every night?"

Xue Xiujun's eyes flickered, and he stammered, "Well... I just..."

He suddenly changed the subject, "By the way, this flower was obtained by He Suzhi."

"So it was him." Yu Wan looked surprised, not expecting that the person had such a thoughtful side.

"Where did he get the flowers from?" she pressed.

Xue Xiujun shrugged. "Then I don't know. I'll go call him for you and let him say it himself."

Before he finished speaking, he had already slipped away.

Yu Wan stared at the doorway. So what did this person want her to do for them?

"Am I being too controlling?" she began to reflect.

In fact, as long as she does her job well, what she does in her spare time should be none of her business.

She had reminded herself of this more than once, but each time she couldn't help but ask a few more questions, mainly because she didn't want a perfectly good person to go down a path of no return.

Another boy appeared at the door. "You were looking for me?"

Yu Wan pointed to the flowers on the table, "Where did you pick these?"

He Jing frowned. "You don't like it?"

"No, I'm just asking around," Yu Wan said calmly.

He Jing pursed his lips, a hint of confusion and unease in his eyes.

Just then, a woman's clear and melodious voice came from downstairs.

"Flowers for sale! Beautiful flowers! Young master, young lady, please buy a bouquet."

Yu Wan looked out the window and joked, "You didn't buy it from her, did you?"

He Jing remained silent.

Yu Wan was taken aback. "Really? You buy flowers every day, how much money must you be spending?"

He Jing's eyes were filled with inquiry as he observed every subtle expression on the girl's face.

Do you like it or not?

Yu Wan instructed, "Go downstairs and invite this flower-selling woman up. I want to talk to her."

He Jing looked surprised. "What did you talk about with her?"

Yu Wan noticed the hesitation in his expression and smiled faintly:

"Is it inconvenient? Then forget it."

"No," He Jing said in a deep voice, "I'll bring her to see you tomorrow, is that alright?"

“Sure,” Yu Wan said with a smile.

This person is a bit strange. We just meet and chat for a few words, what kind of preparation code is needed?

She's not going to eat that young girl, is she?

I really don't know what's going on in these young people's heads.

The next day, Yu Wan saw a tall woman with a flower basket on her left arm and another flower basket in her right hand.

The woman was dressed in coarse linen clothes. She had delicate and pretty features, and there was a hint of heroism between her brows, but she acted timidly, looking down at her toes.

She bowed and said, "Hua Rong greets Madam Yu."

Yu Wan carefully examined the woman in front of her and noticed a fleeting look of nervousness on He Suzhi's face beside her.

This young man has always been very secretive and adept at hiding his emotions. It's rare to see him show such an expression, so it seems he really cares about this woman.

"Miss Hua, come and sit down." She greeted her with a smile.

Hua Rong pursed her lips, instinctively glanced at He Jing, lowered her head, walked to the spot designated by Yu Wan, and carefully sat down.

She placed the flower basket in her right hand on the table. "This...this is for you."

The flowers are full and plump, and the color scheme is fresh and clean, showing that it was carefully prepared.

"Thank you," Yu Wan said with a smile, "So, are you planning to sell the other flower basket on the street?"

Hua Rong was terrified. "If my lady wishes, I can give it to you."

"No, no, I was just asking casually," Yu Wan said, both amused and exasperated.

Hua Rong looked uneasy, realizing she might have said something wrong, and looked to He Jing for help.

He Jing glared at her reproachfully, and the latter shrank back.

The two exchanged glances, which Yu Wan noticed, but she pretended not to notice.

"You're not from around here, are you?"

Hua Rong lowered her head and said, "To answer Madam Yu's question, I am indeed not a local. My hometown is thousands of miles away, and my parents passed away when I was very young. My mother loved growing flowers when she was alive, and I learned a little bit about it. I originally came here to stay with my cousin, but after arriving, I found that there weren't many flower sellers, so I thought of this way to make a living."

Yu Wan was surprised to learn that she was an orphan. "Have you found your cousin yet?"

In this day and age, many families have indeed been torn apart and people have died.

Hua Rong replied, "I did find him, but he has a secret he can't tell me, so he can't acknowledge me."

Yu Wan didn't ask any more questions, as that would be a matter of privacy.

Hua Rong looked nervous, secretly glancing at the boy beside her, and quietly waiting for the next question.

Yu Wan also looked at the young man, "He Suzhi, go and do other things. I'm just chatting with Hua Niangzi for a bit; it's nothing important."

What's that guy standing there for? It's like he's worried she'll eat him.

He Jing's expression tightened, and he glanced at Hua Rong with concern. "Then I'll go out first."

Hua Rong moved slightly, seemingly wanting to hurry up and follow them out, but forced herself to calm down.

"I wonder what business Madam Yu has with me?"

Yu Wan took a rose from the flower basket. It was full of life, with water droplets hanging on its peach-pink petals. It must have been picked that morning.

It's really beautiful.

In her past life, she didn't have time to grow flowers and rarely paid attention to these little details in life. However, there was a flower shop just across the street, owned by a beautiful woman who arranged various flowers at the entrance every day. Yu Wan watched from afar; it was truly a scene of peaceful tranquility.

Seeing that she remained silent and expressionless, looking very serious, Hua Rong grew increasingly anxious, almost to the point of tearing her fingers apart.

Yu Wan snapped out of her thoughts: "Where is your flower field?"

“In…in the west of the city.” Hua Rong’s face was pale.

"Can I go take a look?" Yu Wan asked with a smile.

Hua Rong was taken aback. "Y-yes, that's fine."

Yu Wan didn't know what the other person was afraid of. "Don't be nervous, I don't mean any harm. You've chosen a good direction; there are indeed very few people selling flowers here. I'd like to see your flower field, and if possible, I'd like to cooperate with you."

"Cooperation?" Hua Rong was a little confused.

“Yes, isn’t this better than trying your luck on the street all by yourself?” Yu Wan then asked her how big the flower field was, what the latest flowering period would be, and if she could plant flowers on a piece of land.

Hua Rong is always ready to answer any questions.

Seeing that it was getting late, Yu Wan had no choice but to end the conversation for the time being.

"I have something to do. Can you come see me tomorrow and take me to see your flower field?"

After receiving an affirmative answer, she instructed He Suzhi to send the person away.

He Su looked uneasy, and the two of them fled as if they were escaping.

Yu Wan shook her head helplessly, "Am I that scary?"

He Jing led his men out of the restaurant and hurriedly asked, "What did she ask? How did you answer?"

The banyan tree no longer appeared as humble as before; it regained some of its lively and playful charm, its eyes filled with excitement.

"She asked me where the flower field was, and also asked about some things related to flower planting. She told me to come find her tomorrow, and said she wanted to cooperate with me."

"That's all?" He Jing's expression became somewhat complicated, and a hint of disappointment flashed in his eyes.

"Yeah, that's all. I didn't even need the answers you prepared for me. I thought she'd be tough to deal with."

He Jing persisted, "Is there really nothing else?"

"Really, there aren't any left. Isn't this just what you wanted?" Hua Rong asked, puzzled.

He Jing instantly deflated, as if he had suffered some kind of blow, feeling inexplicably irritable and stifled.

I should be relieved, but why can't I feel happy?

Yu Wan poured herself a glass of iced tea, glanced at the flowers in the flower basket, and then looked down at the bustling crowd on the street below.

Having lived two lives, I should indeed be more insightful.

There's nothing wrong with focusing solely on making money, but occasionally taking a break to enjoy life is also a way to reward yourself.

Similarly, in addition to basic needs like food and clothing, emotional value is also essential for people.

She saw He Suzhi and Hua Rong whisper a few words downstairs, and then the latter left with a flower basket on his arm.

After seeing the person off, He Jing looked up casually and saw the girl standing at the window upstairs.

The girl smiled serenely and tilted her head at him, as if encouraging him in some way.

He Jing's dissatisfaction reached its peak.
