Chapter 100 Ah Xiao Knows

If Shen Linyue hadn't reminded him, Uncle Liu would have almost forgotten about what happened last time.

The only light in the dimly lit car was her phone screen.

Uncle Liu was a little uncomfortable at first, squinting at the photo. After a long while, he said, "He really does look a bit like Chen Wensheng, but I've never seen him when he was young. He looks about three-tenths like him in his middle age."

"What is this person's relationship with Chen Wensheng?" Uncle Liu asked, puzzled.

Shen Linyue frowned slightly: "I don't know, I'm curious too."

She looked at Uncle Liu and asked, "I remember you said last time that Chen Wensheng's wife's surname was Li, right? This person also happens to have the surname Li, but you said he looks like Chen Wensheng."

Shen Linyue pondered, but couldn't come up with a solution for the time being.

Uncle Liu paused for a moment, then glanced at the photo on his phone again: "That is indeed quite strange."

"Uncle Liu, do you know where the Chen family went after that incident?" Shen Linyue asked, remembering someone.

Didn't Chen Wensheng have a son who had heart surgery? His age was indeed about the same as Li Yanxi's, and she didn't want to overlook any details.

Uncle Liu pondered for a moment: "They should have gone back to the countryside of Nanshi. But after so many years, I don't know if they are still in Nanshi. However, if you want to know, you can ask the gentleman."

After all, the gentleman is willing to tell Miss Lin so many things, so this shouldn't be a problem.

Shen Linyue pursed her lips, a smile in her eyes: "Okay, thank you for your hard work, Uncle Liu. You can go back now."

Uncle Liu didn't think much of it, and after saying goodbye to Shen Linyue, he drove away.

As soon as the black car drove away, she looked up and met the inquisitive and enigmatic eyes of the boy standing opposite her.

Shen Linyue: "..."

He Xiao didn't know how long he had been standing there, or whether he had overheard her conversation with Uncle Liu.

He was standing in the shadows, and Shen Linyue didn't even notice him.

"Ah Xiao, you didn't go back?" Shen Linyue said dryly.

The boy's narrow eyes were unfathomable. He stared at her for a long time before speaking, his voice somewhat hoarse.

"What are you investigating Chen Wensheng for?" the young man asked directly, without any hesitation.

Shen Linyue's heart skipped a beat, knowing that He Xiao had overheard their entire conversation.

So, should she continue to hide it or tell the whole story?

Would Ah Xiao believe me if I made up an excuse?

Silence spread between the two, with only the occasional chirping of birds echoing around them.

"Are you trying to figure out what kind of excuse you're going to use to fool me?" The boy casually slung his bag over one shoulder and crossed his arms. He was already more than two heads taller than her, and his silent gaze made her feel even more pressured.

Shen Linyue had been thinking about countless things. When she looked up again, she had a gentle smile on her face.

"Ah Xiao is so smart, she should have already figured out what was going on from my conversation with Uncle Liu, right?" She didn't say it explicitly, but only hinted.

He Xiao frowned, stared at her for a moment, and then looked away.

"You want to investigate the truth behind my mother's departure?" the boy asked in a hoarse voice.

Shen Linyue had already walked up to him, looking up at him intently with her small face. She nodded without hesitation: "Yes."

When He Xiao met her clear and earnest eyes, he felt a dryness in his throat. He lowered his head, his eyes calm.

"I thought you would lie to me, or at least say something to comfort me." He curled his lips into a self-deprecating smile.

Shen Linyue: ?

"Ah Xiao?" she called softly.

She remembered that He Liyu had said that Ah Xiao had selective amnesia because of the great shock he had suffered. She thought it was unlikely that she could wake him up with just a few words.

Shen Linyue was filled with unease, but she still answered honestly, "My sister's death is too suspicious, so I want to investigate. Ah Xiao, will you blame me?"

He Xiao's expression flickered in the shadows, but after a long while, he chuckled softly, "You? You'd be investigating this for ages!"

Still worried that he might stop her, Shen Linyue: "..."

What does this silly child mean?

"You didn't investigate this too, did you?" Shen Linyue voiced her suspicions.

He Xiao nodded and looked up at the stars in the sky: "Yes, but Lao He stopped me, and he even sent me abroad for a year because of it."

Shen Linyue paused for a moment: "He's right. He's afraid that the deeper you investigate, the more dangerous it will be."

He Xiao snorted coldly, neither confirming nor denying: "Where are you at in your investigation?"

"All I know is the name Chen Wensheng and his son with heart disease." Shen Linyue's heart pounded. Could A-Xiao know more than she did?

"By the way, I also suspect that Li Yanxi has a connection with the Chen family."

He Xiao frowned: "So that's why you asked me to take the picture."

Mentioning this, Shen Linyue's expression turned even more indifferent, and she sneered, "You know that? I wonder who's been spreading these lies about me having feelings for him."

"Tell me what you've found out." She looked directly into He Xiao's eyes.

He Xiao shrugged innocently: "It's your fault for always keeping everything from me."

“I’ve met Chen Wensheng’s son. He’s thin and small, and looks like he could break at the slightest touch. He’s not like Li Yanxi.” The young man said calmly, “But since you have your suspicions, there must be some connection between them.”

“As for Chen Wensheng, I should have some impression of him, but for some reason, he is very vague in my memory. I had just saved up money to send someone to investigate this matter when it was exposed to Lao He, so…” He Xiao glanced at her.

Shen Linyue understood. He probably knew less information than she did, oh, and she didn't know much either.

"Don't think about it if you can't remember. You were probably too young to remember back then." Shen Linyue changed the subject: "Go back, you're standing outside feeding the mosquitoes."

As she turned to leave, He Xiao grabbed her arm: "Now that I know all this, can we investigate together from now on?"

“Although my dad always tries to fool me by saying my mom is away on business, I’m not a three-year-old. I also want to know the truth about how my mom was murdered.”

Shen Linyue paused slightly, sensing a deep sense of loneliness in the boy's words.

She remembered the little figure in her dream, holding an iAPD and wishing for her mother to come back.

“Sure, let’s investigate together from now on.” Shen Linyue turned around, her eyes seemingly filled with stars, dazzling to behold.

"Hmm." He Xiao's lips curled into a smile. "So, when you went to the banquet at the Jiang family's house last time, did you also discover something?"

The boy's eyes sparkled. Shen Linyue: ...Good lad, you can even apply what you've learned to other situations, huh?

"No, I just think her attitude towards me has been strange on several occasions." She glanced at He Xiao again and said, "Oh, it's even stranger to you. I just want to see what kind of trouble she can cause."

"By the way, do you know Jiang Zhixing's father?" Shen Linyue asked.

He Xiao raised an eyebrow, pondered for a moment, and shook his head: "I don't know. All I know is that Jiang Zhixing has his mother's surname."

“I think you’re right to investigate Jiang Yanxin. That old hag is acting very strangely. Maybe we can find something out about her.”

Shen Linyue: ?

"Why do you say that?" she asked.

"Intuition," He Xiao replied.
