Chapter 139 Discomfort

In a deserted corner, Jiang Zhixing stood there for an unknown amount of time, quietly watching the two people embracing in the courtyard, his expression indifferent yet complex.

He had always known that the atmosphere between his mother and Jiang Jinyu was strange, but he hadn't thought about it deeply before. He thought Jiang Jinyu would be a good stepfather because he was gentle yet strong.

He shouldn't have interfered with his mother's love life, but after all these years, the two of them not only didn't end up together, but they weren't even boyfriend and girlfriend.

He doesn't understand matters of the heart, and he knows that their relationship isn't normal.

Looking down at a message on his phone, it was a series of photos from an unknown number. The devoted and tender Uncle Jiang in his eyes was now kissing strange women, and more importantly, these women were not all the same person.

At that moment, Jiang Zhixing was completely bewildered. Did his mother know about all this?

Or perhaps his mother was deceived by his appearance.

But what if the mother knew all this yet still chose to succumb to depravity?

Jiang Zhixing felt a slight ache in his stomach when he thought about this. He thought of many other things, but in the end, they all turned into nausea, making him feel physically uncomfortable.

Who exactly is this person? And why choose to let him know these things?

He stared intently at his phone screen, then deleted all messages and photos.

...

The year-end is approaching and New Year's Day is just around the corner.

The results of another small test were released, and Shen Linyue and He Xiao performed steadily as always.

The two looked at the test papers side by side, and Shen Linyue pointed to a question on his Chinese test paper: "You wouldn't even understand reading comprehension like this."

He Xiao curled his lips and pointed at her math problem, saying, "The process is all correct, but the final calculation is wrong. Xiao Lin, carelessness is unacceptable."

He spoke earnestly, mimicking Old Zhao's tone.

Shen Linyue: "..."

"How about I ask Lao He to find you some tutoring classes to improve your Chinese?" she said with a smile.

He Xiao's pupils dilated in disbelief: "If you want my life, you could just say so directly, why did you have to beat around the bush?"

Shen Linyue paused, her expression indescribable: "Hoping you get into Taipei University is like hoping a sow can fly. Fine, I can't be bothered with you anymore, whatever."

After saying that, she took out her error notebook and planned to copy down all the wrong questions on the test paper.

He Xiao looked at her profile, hesitated, and finally said after a long while, "You can't impose your own desire to apply to Taipei University on others, can you?"

Shen Linyue stopped holding the pen and looked up at the boy beside her. His attitude was much better than before. Although he was still saying one thing but meaning another, he was no longer so sarcastic as to contradict her in every way.

She thought for a moment and calmly said, "For your personal safety, applying to Taipei University is my last concession."

So either he gets into Taipei University, or he's left to fend for himself; she won't lower her standards.

Shen Linyue still remembered what the voice said: He Xiao's fate would not change, but she insisted on going against the will of heaven and keeping He Xiao under her watchful eye was the safest option.

He Xiao: "..." He didn't understand what danger he could possibly be in.

Every time this topic came up, Lin Yue would start making up all sorts of excuses to brush him off.

He opened his mouth, wanting to refute, but looking at Lin Yue's serious and earnest expression, he couldn't utter a single harsh word.

Recently, his memory recovery has slowed down, and he might not see a single image for a day or two.

For some inexplicable reason, He Xiao knew that the scene that hadn't been restored was about his mother's disappearance.

"Fine, whatever you say, I'll do my best." The boy finally gave in.

Shen Linyue noticed that his mood was starting to drop, so she put down her pen and ruffled his hair: "If you have any problems, you can speak frankly."

He Xiao looked at her with a deep gaze: "Then tell me, what kind of accident might I encounter, or do you actually have the ability to predict the future?"

Shen Linyue was stunned, staring blankly at the young man in front of her. He Xiao didn't care that she hadn't given him an answer, and withdrew his head with a sneer.

"If you really could foresee the future, you were wrong the moment you tried to keep me carefully protected in a greenhouse."

Shen Linyue: "..."

She looked at the boy in surprise. If it weren't for his still clear and innocent eyes, Shen Linyue would have thought that he knew something.

“You’re right. If I could really foresee the future, I would warn you before the next danger.” She thought about it seriously for a while and nodded.

He Xiao remained silent, giving her a look as if she were an idiot.

...

The news that there would be a three-day holiday for New Year's Day was also mentioned by Lao Zhao during the last class in the afternoon.

The classroom was instantly enveloped in a joyful and excited atmosphere, which lasted until the teachers assigned homework, at which point everyone quickly lost their enthusiasm.

"Three days off, twelve exam papers, just say it if you want me dead." Su Xiangxin wailed, slumped over the table.

He Xiao stood silently with his arms crossed, staring at the stack of exam papers on the table, but his situation wasn't much better.

Shen Linyue comforted them one by one: "We can find a study room to write slowly, and study together."

Su Xiangxin held back for a while before giving her a thumbs up: "You can still think about studying at a time like this, you're truly amazing."

Shen Linyue smiled without saying a word. He Xiao, who hadn't spoken, suddenly glanced at her and said, "How about we go to Grandpa's house for New Year's Day?"

Shen Linyue: "..."

She looked at the boy in surprise, wondering what he was up to now, when she heard him continue.

“Grandpa has been single for so many years, it’s quite pitiful. Let’s go keep him company. He probably wants to see you too.” He Xiao glanced at her.

Shen Linyue was speechless because she couldn't bring herself to refuse. The thought of her father being alone all these years made her too sad to speak.

"Let's tell Lao He about this first," Shen Linyue pondered.

He Xiao glanced at her, and finally nodded, "Whatever."

...

He Liyu has been very busy lately. With the year-end approaching, there are many things that the company needs him to handle, and the annual meeting is also being prepared.

I come to the company early every day and don't get home until 11 or 12 o'clock.

He could have stayed at the company, but he was worried about his two children at home, so he would go home to stay no matter how late it was.

He didn't get home until 11:30 that night. Knowing he would be working overtime and coming home late, the housekeeper would leave two lights on for him.

As soon as He Liyu entered the room and changed his coat, he heard a slight noise coming from the sofa. He immediately became alert and swept his sharp and piercing eyes over, but unfortunately, he couldn't see very clearly because of the dim light.

"dad……"

A low murmur suddenly came from behind the sofa, somewhat indistinct but clearly audible.

He Liyu was stunned for two seconds before he reacted, pulled his hand back from the headlight switch, and took out his phone to provide light.

When he saw the little girl curled up asleep on the sofa, his expression softened immediately, but when he saw the thin blanket draped over her, his brows furrowed again.

He took slow, deliberate steps and carefully approached the sleeping little girl, then knelt down beside her.

"Ah Yue," he called softly.
