No one made a sound outside the quiet courtyard.
After Jiang Zhixing said that, Su Xiangxin was completely puzzled.
Does she care about him more than the rent?
She probably doesn't think their relationship has progressed to the point where they care about each other.
The quick-witted Su Xiangxin was pondering how to bring up the subject to ease the awkwardness.
Suddenly, five or six bodyguards dressed in sharp black suits emerged from the dark alley and approached Jiang Zhixing in an orderly fashion.
The man in the lead was extremely respectful to Jiang Zhixing, adopting a very humble posture.
"Young Master, our car can't get in. Shall we head back to the old house now?"
Su Xiangxin's eyes widened slightly, her lips moved, but she ultimately didn't say a word.
Jiang Zhixing hoped to discern other emotions from Su Xiao's face, but all his hopes were dashed.
His mood sank, and his demeanor changed, becoming as aloof and indifferent as the once high and mighty Jiang family heir.
He didn't even glance at her again before turning and leaving.
Su Xiangxin looked at the boy's back and subconsciously wanted to say a few words, but the next second, the bodyguard who had been so respectful to Jiang Zhixing suddenly stepped forward and blocked her view, and took out a bank card.
"This is what the madam instructed. She hopes that you and the young master can end things here and have no further contact," the bodyguard added. "Please keep this safe and don't make things difficult for the working class."
Su Xiangxin: "..." With the mention of "working class," she couldn't utter a single word of explanation.
But she was very unhappy that she was wronged after simply keeping the card.
"Could you please pass on a message to Mrs. Jiang for me?" Su Xiangxin smiled politely, her eyes cold. "Tell Mrs. Jiang not to worry too much. Not all women in the world are interested in her son. Thank you."
He then retreated to the courtyard and slammed the door shut.
...
The Jiang family villa remained exactly the same as when he left.
Jiang Zhixing glanced at him casually, and the butler who had been waiting at the door immediately lit up when he saw him.
"Young Master, you're finally back!" the butler said with a smile, both kind and respectful.
Jiang Zhixing's expression softened, and he nodded slightly, calling out softly, "Uncle Lin."
The butler wiped his wet eyes and nodded. "Young Master, I'm here. Please go back to your room. Madam has been waiting for you for a long time."
He paused for a moment, then sighed, "Madam has always had this temper. I hope you can be more tolerant of her. She hasn't had an easy time these past years. There's no such thing as a mother and son holding a grudge overnight. Sigh."
When his mother was mentioned, Jiang Zhixing's expression softened, but he still nodded politely.
"I know, Uncle Lin, there's no need to worry."
Jiang Zhixing slowly walked into the living room. The large living room was brightly lit. A thin woman dressed in a thin vest was sitting on the sofa, pretending to be asleep. If you looked closely, there were still faint bluish-purple marks at the corners of her eyes, indicating that she had not rested well.
Jiang Zhixing stopped in his tracks, his brows furrowing slightly. He recalled the drug test report Lin Yue had shown him, and a crack appeared in his hardened heart.
His thin lips were pressed tightly together, and he hesitated whether or not to call her name.
Jiang Yanxin, who had been resting with her eyes closed, opened them at this moment. Her sleepy eyes lit up the instant she saw him.
"Ah Xing! You're finally back!" She quickly got up, anxiously pulled him over to check on him, her beautiful eyes slightly red. "You've lost weight, how could you lose so much weight? Did you suffer outside? Let's see if you dare to run away from home again. You're getting bolder and bolder, and you don't listen to your mother anymore."
Jiang Zhixing was speechless. Finally, after she pulled him around in a circle and stopped, he said gently, "I won't leave home anymore. I will study hard and listen to you to inherit the company."
Jiang Yan was taken aback, feeling both emotional and touched. "You've grown up, that's good. Don't be so willful in the future. I've been so worried about you lately that I haven't been able to sleep, and I've even developed dark circles under my eyes."
"But it's okay. Now that you're back, I'm relieved. Are you hungry? I'll have the kitchen make you something you like." Jiang Yanxin said with a smile, pulling him along.
Jiang Zhixing glanced at her eyes, nodded slightly, and ultimately did not say what was on his mind, not wanting to ruin this brief, happy, and warm moment.
He concealed the disappointment in his eyes and smiled slightly: "No need, I'm tired and want to rest."
Jiang Yanxin was stunned for a moment, then finally remembered that he had just finished school and quickly said, "The auntie always cleans your room. Go upstairs and rest if you're tired."
Jiang Zhixing nodded, then looked at her, "And you? Do you have other things to take care of?"
Jiang Yanxin froze slightly and subconsciously shook her head. Realizing what she had done, she quickly nodded, her expression helpless: "There are still some things to take care of at the company. I just hope that you can finish your studies and help your mother with some of the burden."
Jiang Zhixing pursed his lips, his gaze sweeping over her face, not missing the fleeting panic in her eyes.
The heart that had finally begun to stir with emotion was once again chilled to the bone.
He didn't ask, but said with an unreadable look in his eyes, "Mother, you've worked hard. I'd like to go back to my room to rest."
Jiang Yanxin watched his retreating figure before her expression turned cold again, tinged with a hint of harshness. She immediately gave instructions to the family's bodyguards.
"Keep a close eye on him, and let me know immediately who he has met."
Before leaving, Jiang Yanxin turned back and took one last deep look at the dark fifth floor.
Then, without a second thought, he grabbed his bag and got into the car.
...
In the pitch-black bedroom, a figure swayed slightly in front of the floor-to-ceiling window.
The room lights suddenly turned on, illuminating every corner.
The French windows were covered again. In the simply yet elegantly decorated room, the boy sat alone in a corner chair, holding his phone and making a call.
Soon, the call connected, and a man's voice came through.
"Boss? What can I do for you?"
Jiang Zhixing's brows furrowed slightly, revealing no emotion. His voice was deep and unfathomable: "Have someone follow and investigate Jiang Yanxin. Tell me about everyone she has met, and investigate Jiang Jinyu as well. I have already sent their information to your email. We'll start tonight."
"Tonight?" The person on the other end sounded surprised. "So urgent?"
"Okay, don't call me unless you have some major breakthroughs, understand?" Jiang Zhixing said calmly.
The man paused for a moment, but still expressed his understanding, "I'll go find someone to arrange it right away."
Before hanging up, Jiang Zhixing said, "Don't expose yourself."
...
Shen Linyue received Su Xiangxin's message after washing up.
The constantly vibrating phone eventually caught her attention.
The call was answered quickly.
"Yueyue, Jiang Zhi has left. Someone will probably come to move his luggage tomorrow." Her voice was slightly low.
Shen Linyue paused for a moment, then said jokingly, "What? You still can't bear to part with him?"
"How could that be!" Su Xiangxin retorted subconsciously, then became indignant, her emotions shifting quite quickly: "When Jiang Zhixing left, the bodyguard gave me a card, telling me to stay away from Jiang Zhixing in the future."
"No, do you think she's seriously ill? Is this family here to bring me bad luck?"
