Chapter 21 He Xiao's Suspicion

He found her childish remarks extremely cute, so he gently patted her head with his large, warm hand and responded in a low voice.

"Well, just study hard and you'll take care of me in my old age." This was said half-jokingly and half-seriously.

Shen Linyue glanced at him upon hearing this. His words were perfectly normal, but they somehow sounded rather sad.

They should be the same age.

"Oh." Shen Linyue tilted her head, her emotions remaining relatively stable.

He Liyu didn't say anything, and the two of them remained silent for a while before he stood up.

"Get some rest. I'm going to the study to handle some company matters. If you get bored, ask Ah Xiao to come down and keep you company."

Shen Linyue obediently lay down and watched him take the medicine bowl and leave before burying her face in the blanket.

He Liyu is too gentle now. She is slowly getting used to it, but she has already included him in her list of trustworthy people. There are only two people on the list, the other one is He Xiao.

Just as she was curled up in bed scrolling through short videos on her phone, the door opened again.

Upon hearing the noise, Shen Linyue immediately put down her phone and pretended to be asleep until the figure came and sat down beside her.

He Xiao's nonchalant voice came through the blanket, "Sigh, someone's asleep. I'll have to eat that little cake that Chef Zhang just invented. It was so delicious."

Pretending to be asleep, Shen Linyue: ...Childish!

She pulled back the covers, but the movement was too forceful, causing a slight cramp in her abdomen. She involuntarily gasped, and her previously rosy face turned pale again.

He Xiao was startled and quickly put down what he was holding to grab her arm.

"No, why are you so agitated? Do you think I'd really eat food from a patient like you?" He was anxious, but his tone was disdainful.

Shen Linyue glared at the culprit, "It was clearly you who provoked me."

Seeing that she was still sick, He Xiao didn't pursue the matter further and apologized in a low voice.

"Yes, yes, yes, I was wrong, okay? I kindly brought you food and you still turned around and bit me, hmph."

Shen Linyue pouted, picked up the small cake on the table, and a hint of a smile appeared in her eyes. She didn't forget to complain even while eating.

"Where did your dad find this Chinese medicine? It tastes awful. The little cakes are much better, hehe."

He Xiao got angry just thinking about it. He stared at Shen Linyue's profile but couldn't see any resemblance to his father.

He sat on a small stool with his legs crossed, his arms clasped in front of his chest, carefully examining Shen Linyue, even considering secretly getting a paternity test done for Lao He and her.

After all, the appearance of this aunt was too strange. He hadn't thought about it carefully before, but today, seeing Lao He's different yet serious attitude towards this aunt, he began to have doubts.

Is this aunt actually his half-sister? Or perhaps his long-lost twin sister?

Suddenly, the novel plots I'd heard from my female classmates flooded my mind inappropriately.

"Good medicine tastes bitter. You've been spoiled. You should be grateful to even have some to drink," he replied absentmindedly.

Seeing him lost in thought, Shen Linyue was speechless: "You're one to talk, but even you only listen to half of what I say, don't you?"

Doesn't she know that good medicine tastes bitter?

She was just curious how He Liyu knew all this, and before she even went to the hospital, he had the housekeeper go out to get medicine and cook it for her.

He Xiao glanced at her, snapping out of his reverie. He had just seen Old He personally feed her the medicine, so he naturally understood what she wanted to ask, but he didn't know either.

His busy father actually knew about traditional Chinese medicine formulas for women's health!

"I don't know. If you're curious, go ask him yourself." His gaze swept over her fair and smooth face again, and he said kindly, "He definitely wouldn't harm you. Take good care of yourself. Our school is playing a basketball game against No. 2 Middle School this Sunday. If your stomach doesn't hurt, I'll take you there."

He Xiao paused here, smiled and said, "Don't forget about the day trip to Taipei. I know a lot of fun places there."

Sure enough, when he said those words, the little girl sitting on the bed immediately brightened up, and her eyes curved into adorable crescents as she looked at him.

"Don't worry, I'll definitely be fully recovered by Saturday and Sunday." She knew her own body well.

The pain only lasted for the first two days, after which I could eat and play whatever I wanted without any problems.

Seeing her bright face regain its brightness, He Xiao chuckled and said, "That's for the best."

Just as he was about to stand up after saying that, Shen Linyue looked at him expectantly again.

"He Xiao, I downloaded your game too. Can you let me play it?"

She also had toys on her old phone, like Snake and Tetris, which she had played many times.

She wanted to try out new-era games, and tried several times this morning, but the results were disastrous.

If it weren't for her regular menstrual cycle, she would have suspected that she was upset by the game.

The boy raised an eyebrow, his tone smug: "You were all listless just now, and now you have the energy to play games? I really underestimated you."

Shen Linyue frowned and glared at him: "Just tell me if you're bringing it or not! You talk too much nonsense."

He Xiao's competitive spirit immediately kicked in, and he said in his usual arrogant tone, "Go ahead and play, do you expect me to go back and do my homework?"

Shen Linyue smiled, but the smile didn't reach her eyes: "You reminded me. I'll drag my sick body over to supervise your homework in a bit. Let's play a couple of rounds first."

He Xiao: ...

I should have kept quiet.

...

He Liyu's private study on the third floor.

I had just finished a short meeting when my assistant called.

"Boss, you are truly a prophet. We just finished processing Miss Lin's identity documents when the private investigator sent back a message that someone was investigating Miss Lin Yue."

He Liyu's eyes were dark and unfathomable as he stared at the computer screen. "Hmm, keep watching. Report back when there's progress."

There is only one person who can investigate A-Yue, Jiang Yanxin. A-Yue has only been back for a few days, and only she has seen her.

Thinking about the ongoing collaboration with the Jiang family, he asked in a deep voice, "Have any messages been sent back from the people keeping an eye on Jiang Yanxin?"

"Not yet, but Mr. Jiang's bipolar disorder seems to be getting worse." The assistant paused, "By the way, Mr. Jiang recently wanted to meet with you, presumably about the young master. Should I decline?"

In the past two years, because of the young master's matter, President Jiang has been trying to meet with the boss more often. The boss went the first few times, but later he basically refused.

Just when the assistant thought his boss was going to refuse, his cold voice came through the phone.

"Okay, let's set a time with her."

Whether it's for A-Yue or A-Xiao, I have to go see them this time.

We need to be clear about her purpose.

"...Okay, I'll arrange it right away."

...

In the evening, Jiang Yanxin had just returned to the Jiang family villa when she received a call from her assistant. After listening to what her assistant had to say, her worried and furrowed brows suddenly relaxed.

After hanging up the phone, he looked at the butler standing respectfully to the side and asked in a rare good mood, "Has the young master returned?"

"Young Master is back. He should be upstairs practicing the piano or exercising now." Hearing the madam's concern for the young master, the butler was only slightly taken aback before coming to his senses.

Jiang Yanxin nodded calmly and instructed, "Get some food, I'll go upstairs and check on him."

"……OK."
