Chapter 23 The Mysterious Trust

On the way, Fu Ya asked Rong Lianhu, puzzled, "Why did you agree to let Master Qingxuan take Jiaojiao into the mountains? It's so dangerous!"

Rong Lianhu shook his head: "You don't know how powerful he is. He doesn't even need to get close to a tiger. Within ten meters, he can take the tiger's life with a wave of his hand. With him around, Jiaojiao will be safe."

“But Jiaojiao is still young, and the mountains are full of mosquitoes, insects, and rodents. What if they bite her?”

Rong Lianhu had an almost uncanny trust in Qing Xuanzi. He said with certainty, "With him here, not only Jiaojiao, but even I won't get bitten by mosquitoes."

Fu Ya was somewhat helpless at his unwavering belief, but she had to admit that Qing Xuanzi did indeed have the ability to convince people.

She sighed and said, "Alright, then we have no choice but to trust him. But are you really going to go deep into the mountains? The situation there is so complicated right now, is it really safe to take Jiaojiao with you?"

Rong Lianhu nodded and said, "Since Master says so, he must have his reasons."

"Also, he's probably going to take Jiaojiao to test some ideas, and he won't let us take any risks. Besides, I'm quite skilled myself, so I'll be fine. Maybe we can find some good things to nourish the children this time."

Fu Ya remained silent for a while, but ultimately did not object.

She knew that once Rong Lianhu made a decision, it was difficult to change it. Moreover, Qing Xuanzi's abilities did give her some peace of mind.

When they got home, Rong Lianhu told his two sons to go to sleep before taking his wife back to their room.

After she was seated, Rong Lianhu solemnly recounted what Qing Xuanzi had told him about Rong Jiaojiao.

Seeing the worry on Fu Ya's face, he continued, "Master Qingxuan said that even he couldn't stop Jiaojiao from conjuring things up, and suggested that we not bring the child back. I also think that Jiaojiao is not suitable to live in the family compound for the time being. What do you think?"

Fu Ya asked, "Then ask him if we can stay at his place when you're home."

Rong Lianhu shook his head, and Fu Ya asked sadly, "Why?"

Rong Lianhu sighed, "You forgot that we have two sons. If they discover that Jiaojiao is different, who knows what they might do in the future?"

Fu Ya found it hard to accept the idea that her child would have malicious intentions towards her younger sister, but she also knew that it was a harsh reality.

For a little bit of benefit, let alone brothers and sisters, even fathers and sons will fight each other. What's more, if the daughter really has that heaven-defying treasure, who can guarantee that the two sons will not be greedy?

She remained silent for a long time before sighing and saying, "For Jiaojiao's safety, I agree that she should not live at the family home."

Rong Lianhu patted her shoulder and said, "Let's be patient for now. When she turns six, she'll understand the danger and know how to control her abilities, and then she can come back to us. At that time, she will not only be capable, but we won't have to worry about others discovering her differences."

Fu Ya nodded: "I know! Okay, you definitely haven't had a proper rest for over a month, so go and get some rest!"

Rong Lianhu looked at his daughter, who was already dozing off, and chuckled, "It's time for her to sleep."

Fu Ya rolled her eyes at him, annoyed, and settled Rong Jiaojiao on the kang (heated brick bed)...

After a busy night, the couple arrived early the next morning with Rong Jiaojiao in Qing Xuanzi's courtyard.

Qing Xuanzi was already prepared. He was dressed in short clothes and his hands were empty. Fu Ya asked, "Brother Qing Xuan, are you going like this without bringing anything?"

Qing Xuanzi said in a profound and unfathomable tone, "I brought it, but you just can't see it."

Seeing Fu Ya's puzzled expression, Qing Xuanzi put his hands behind his back, and when he came back to the front, he had a baby bottle in his hand.

Seeing this, Fu Ya felt more at ease. It was almost time for her to go to work, so she reluctantly handed Rong Jiaojiao over to Qing Xuanzi. She then gave the baby formula and clothes she had brought for Rong Jiaojiao to Rong Lianhu and instructed him, "Please take good care of Jiaojiao."

The two nodded in unison. Qing Xuanzi held Rong Jiaojiao in front of him and said, "Don't worry, I will take good care of her."

Rong Lianhu was also carrying a bag containing some essential items.

Seeing that Fu Ya was still hesitating, Qing Xuanzi smiled and said, "Let's go, don't worry, I won't let anything happen to them. I'll try to bring back as many good things as possible in the next three days."

Fu Ya exclaimed, "Three days? But I thought it was just one day, so I only prepared one set of clothes and one day's worth of formula."

Qing Xuanzi explained, "You can't go very deep into the mountains in a day. The nearby areas have been cleared away countless times, and it's probably hard to even leave a single wild vegetable. If you want to hunt prey to supplement the children's diet, you naturally have to go deep into the mountains."

"As for the milk powder and clothes you mentioned, I've already prepared them, so you don't need to worry about them."

Fu Ya had no choice but to get up and head to the hospital without saying anything more, given that time was running out.

As soon as she left, Rong Lianhu and Qing Xuanzi, along with Rong Jiaojiao, followed closely behind.

The town they lived in was called Anyang Town. On the other side of the town were villages, and behind the villages were mountains.

On the other side was the military camp, and behind the camp were mountains, but the mountains behind the camp had been cleared by soldiers who frequently went into the mountains for training exercises, so there were not many prey.

Today they plan to enter the mountains from behind the village, so they still have to walk more than ten miles to reach the foot of the mountain.

Rong Lianhu was very excited to be able to go into the mountains with Qing Xuanzi again, and he took big steps.

Along the way, Rong Lianhu recalled the scene of hunting in the mountains with Qing Xuanzi when he was a child and eating roasted meat.

As he reminisced, Qing Xuanzi heard Rong Lianhu's excited voice all around him. He found it very noisy, but he didn't interrupt.

Because he knew that this was one of Rong Lianhu's few fond memories.

However, this excitement didn't last long.

As they left the town and embarked on the path leading to the village, the sight before them silenced them.

The fields beside the road, which should have been lush and green with crops, are now withered and yellow. The soil is cracked like a torn piece of cloth, and the cracks seem to be silently telling the story of the cruelty of the drought.

On the ridge of the field, a few withered weeds swayed in the breeze, as if mourning this lifeless land.

In the distance, the branches and leaves of several old trees have lost their former lushness, with dry leaves hanging limply on the branches. Occasionally, a gust of wind blows by, making a hoarse sound, as if lamenting the ruthlessness of this disaster.

Rong Lianhu sighed, "There was no harvest this year, and next year will probably be even more difficult."

Qing Xuanzi merely frowned slightly, gazing intently at the distant sky. These days were far from over, but even knowing this, there was nothing he could do.

Qing Xuanzi withdrew his gaze, adjusted Rong Jiaojiao's sun hat brim, and said calmly, "Let's go. Time is running out. Let's hurry and try to bring back as many good things as possible in these three days."
