Chapter 32 Purifying the Vengeful Spirits

"Brother, it looks like someone has disturbed this place," Rong Lianhu said in a low voice, having also noticed the unusual situation inside the cave.

Qing Xuanzi nodded and said, "That's right, the entrance to this cave wasn't this big or this wide before."

The two continued deeper, and after more than ten minutes, their vision suddenly opened up before them to a huge, man-made pond.

A stream as thick as an arm was channeled into a pond by a man-made ditch. Once the pond was full, the water flowed from the other side into the cracks in the rocks.

The pond is surrounded by a ring of stone platforms, behind which are rows of stone chambers. Each chamber has a stone door with strange symbols carved on it, which look like some kind of ancient mark.

The entire space was filled with a depressing atmosphere, which Qing Xuanzi knew was because too many people had died in this place.

At this moment, Rong Jiaojiao in my arms started whimpering and soon woke up.

Upon waking, Rong Jiaojiao appeared unusually uneasy, squirming incessantly in Qing Xuanzi's arms, her hand constantly reaching towards the entrance.

Qing Xuanzi knew that the child was sensitive and could sense some unusual presences.

He picked Rong Jiaojiao up upright, patted an exorcism talisman on her body, and then let her rest on his shoulder to make her feel safer.

Rong Jiaojiao finally calmed down, but her head was still turning around and looking around.

He frowned as he surveyed his surroundings, and said in a cold voice, "The symbols on these stone doors are exorcism spells and pentagram sealing spells used by Japanese Onmyoji. They are usually used to expel and seal evil spirits or vengeful spirits."

Upon hearing Qing Xuanzi's words, Rong Lianhu's face instantly turned ashen. He gritted his teeth and said, "The Japanese devils? Why would they do something like this here? Could it be that they killed many people here?"

Qing Xuanzi's eyes flashed with coldness: "That's right, these symbols and layouts are clearly the work of Japanese Onmyoji. They did some shady things here, and this place is very cold and gloomy, obviously there have been many wronged souls here."

Rong Lianhu's gaze fell on those stone chambers. He went up and pushed them, but they didn't budge.

He asked, "Brother, what do you think is inside?"

Qing Xuanzi did not answer. The stone chamber was sealed, and his divine sense could not penetrate inside.

He slowly walked towards the nearest stone door, and a talisman to break the curse was pasted on the door, immediately breaking the seals drawn on the stone door.

Rong Lianhu said admiringly, "The seal has been broken?"

Qing Xuanzi shook his head: "The person who sealed this gate at that time was still inexperienced, and I was able to break it easily."

Rong Lianhu reached out and pushed the stone door again, and this time it was easily pushed open.

Qing Xuanzi already knew what was inside, and he protected Rong Jiaojiao as they retreated to a distance.

The stone chamber was not large, but it contained many strange instruments that looked like some kind of experimental equipment.

There were some chains and hooks on the wall, which were obviously used to fix the experimental subjects.

Most shockingly, the corners of the stone chamber were piled with dry bones, which were already decayed, but still showed signs of inhuman torture.

Qing Xuanzi's expression turned extremely serious, and he said in an icy voice, "This is a biological laboratory. The Japanese devils conducted human experiments here."

Seeing the scene before him, Rong Lianhu knew what had happened without Qing Xuanzi needing to explain. He roared angrily, "These beasts! They do such heinous things!"

Just then, Rong Jiaojiao suddenly struggled in his arms, her little hands tightly gripping Qing Xuanzi's clothes, her head trying to hide in Qing Xuanzi's arms.

Qing Xuanzi didn't speak, but looked at the densely packed vengeful spirits floating on the white bones. He figured Jiaojiao must have seen them too, which was why she was frightened.

"Jiaojiao, don't be afraid, your master is here."

Qing Xuanzi gently patted her back, trying to soothe her emotions.

Rong Jiaojiao would turn her head to look around every now and then, then quickly turn back and hide, perfectly demonstrating what it means to be both bad at something and love to play, leaving Qing Xuanzi both amused and exasperated.

The wronged spirits emanated black mist and tried to approach them, baring their fangs and claws, but were blocked by the amulets on their bodies.

They have lost their minds and only know to rely on instinct to get close to the aura of living souls.

Qing Xuanzi threw out several Soul Cleansing Talismans, and the black aura on the wronged souls gradually dissipated under the effect of the talismans, and their movements also slowed down.

As Qing Xuanzi spoke faster and faster, the light of the Soul Purification Talisman grew brighter and brighter, and the wronged souls began to emit faint whimpers, as if they were telling of endless pain and injustice.

Qing Xuanzi continued chanting the incantation, and the light of the talisman gradually enveloped the wronged spirits, whose bodies began to become transparent, eventually becoming clean and transparent.

Rong Jiaojiao stopped struggling at some point and turned her head to look curiously in the direction of the wronged spirits, which confirmed Qing Xuanzi's suspicion that Rong Jiaojiao could see them.

After being purified, the soul no longer bared its fangs and claws, but simply drifted aimlessly in a daze.

Qing Xuanzi sighed, reluctantly taking out a glittering golden talisman. He gently tossed the soul-guiding talisman into the air, and it instantly transformed into a golden pillar of light that shot straight into the sky.

The beam of light slowly rotated in the air, emitting a warm and soft glow, as if constantly summoning some mysterious being.

At this moment, a black gate slowly opened in the light, and two figures, one in black and one in white, appeared. As soon as they arrived, they sensed the aura of those wronged souls, and frowned when they saw their condition.

He then regained his composure and nodded to Qing Xuanzi: "Thank you for purifying them, fellow Daoist."

Qing Xuanzi politely shook his head: "You're too kind, Envoy. This is what people in the Xuanmen should do."

The white-robed messenger nodded again: "In that case, let's also unseal the other gates and purify the other wronged souls, so that it will be easier for us to take them away together."

Qing Xuanzi inwardly raged: [I was just being polite. You don't even understand politeness, yet you're ordering me around?]

Rong Lianhu stood by and watched Qing Xuanzi's actions, unaware of what he was doing.

Just now I felt a chill running through my body, and then I heard Qing Xuanzi speak, so I had a rough guess in my mind.

Seeing that his face was a little stiff, they thought something had happened. Rong Jiaojiao also looked in the direction of the two messengers and babbled.

Just as Rong Lianhu was about to ask what had happened, he saw Qing Xuanzi leading Rong Jiaojiao toward another stone gate.

Qing Xuanzi had been thinking that with the arrival of the Soul Reaper, he wouldn't have to do the rest of the work, but he never expected the man to be so self-righteous.

However, purifying these wronged souls can bring some merit, so it's not a loss.

After figuring it out, he didn't hesitate and led Rong Jiaojiao to another stone door, where he also affixed a spell-breaking talisman and easily broke the seal.

After the stone door was pushed open, the inside was also filled with withered bones and experimental equipment, and the air was filled with a suffocatingly cold atmosphere.
