Chapter 46 Powerful Protection of His Wife

As if she had caught Fu Ya red-handed, Liu Laidi raised her head and said, "Commander Rong, I really saw Dr. Fu laughing and talking with a man younger than you in the hospital."

"It's true, I wasn't the only one who saw it. Quite a few other people in the hospital saw it too. You can ask around if you don't believe me."

Xu Jingjing retorted on Fu Ya's behalf: "What's wrong with smiling and talking to someone of the opposite sex in public? Does it mean that you have an improper relationship just because you smile and talk to someone of the opposite sex?"

Now, Liu Laidi deeply regrets speaking in front of so many people, but she no longer wants to back down.

She retorted, "I wouldn't be as close to men as she is, and that man is younger and better looking than Battalion Commander Rong."

Rong Lianhu squinted and said, "Then go to the military district gate and ask around. Wasn't there someone who looked younger and better-looking than me who came to see me and even claimed to be my master?"

Liu Laidi was speechless, and Rong Lianhu pressed on: "Comrade Liu Laidi, I now suspect that you were sent by the enemy to cause sabotage."

"You not only spread rumors based on personal conjecture without any actual evidence, but also damage the reputation and image of soldiers."

"They even tried to confuse the public and disrupt the normal order of the family compound. Do you know that this behavior has seriously violated the discipline and moral standards that military families should uphold?"

Liu Laidi's face turned pale instantly, and she stammered, "I... I just wanted to remind everyone to be careful, I didn't mean to ruin anyone's reputation..."

Rong Lianhu sneered, his tone becoming even harsher: "A reminder? Is this a reminder? You're spreading rumors and sowing discord!"

"Do you know how much trouble your actions have caused Comrade Fu Ya?"

"She is an outstanding military doctor in our military region and an excellent soldier with a military rank. She has made tremendous contributions to the army, yet you use such unfounded speculation to slander her. This is a great disrespect to her and to all soldiers!"

He paused, glanced at the family members present, and continued, "Today, I solemnly declare here that Comrade Fu Ya is innocent."

“She has no improper relationship with that so-called ‘man’. He is my mentor and also my daughter’s mentor.”

"He is a highly respected elder, older than me, yet some people have maliciously distorted the facts. This is a great insult to us soldiers and their families!"

Rong Lianhu's gaze fell on Liu Laidi again, and he said coldly, "Comrade Liu Laidi, I hope you can deeply reflect on your behavior. If you continue to spread such unfounded rumors, I will report to my superiors and demand that you be dealt with seriously. I hope you can bear the consequences."

Liu Laidi was overwhelmed by Rong Lianhu's imposing aura. She lowered her head and whispered, "I won't say it again."

Xiang Lan watched coldly from the sidelines. Seeing Liu Laidi's reaction, she sneered inwardly: "Serves her right."

Commissar Jiang listened without interfering; these people deserved to be taught a lesson before they would behave.

He waited until Rong Lianhu finished speaking before continuing, "Commander Rong is right. Comrade Liu Laidi's actions have already caused harm to Comrade Fu Ya and Commander Rong. You must apologize to them and promise not to spread similar rumors again."

Liu Laidi looked up, unable to believe her ears, but seeing the serious expressions on Rong Lianhu and Jianghu's faces, she finally lowered her head and whispered, "I was wrong. I apologize to Dr. Fu and Battalion Commander Rong. I'm sorry."

Standing to the side, Fu Ya felt her grievances and anger subside slightly after hearing Liu Laidi's apology.

She said calmly, "I hope you can watch your mouth in the future and stop making unfounded guesses that could affect others."

Liu Laidi nodded, not daring to speak again, but in her heart she hated Rong Lianhu and his wife for showing no mercy and making her lose face. Because of this, she later kept trying to frame Fu Ya and Rong Lianhu.

Seeing that the matter had been resolved, Jianghu said to the family members present, "That's enough for today. I don't want any more negative rumors to spread about this. Do you understand?"

The family members answered sparsely, "Understood!"

Just when everyone thought it was over, Jianghu continued, "But the family members in this compound need to improve their manners. Starting tomorrow, everyone present, except for Fu Ya and Xu Jingjing, will have to attend a one-hour moral education class with Comrade Xiang Lan, the chairperson of the Women's Committee, every night."

"As for how long you will stay, that depends on when Comrade Xiang Lan feels that your ideological qualities meet the requirements for military families."

A chorus of complaints and accusations rose from the crowd, all blaming Liu Laidi for spreading rumors and for making them feel guilty.

Little did they know that if they hadn't spread the rumors, the story would never have gotten out, and they deserved what they got.

Jianghu didn't give anyone a chance to refute him; he asked Xiang Lan, "Have you remembered it well?"

Xiang Lan nodded: "I've written it all down."

"Very well, everyone can leave now."

Xiang Lan watched as everyone left dejectedly, and gave a sarcastic smile: "I told you all to come here excitedly to watch the show, and now you've become the show!"

Rong Lianhu bid farewell to Jianghu and Xiang Lan, and returned home with his wife and children.

On the way, he said to Fu Ya, "Wife, why didn't you say anything when you were wronged?"

Fu Ya said, "I was so happy tonight that I forgot."

Rong Lianhu said with heartache, "If anyone talks nonsense again, tell me and I'll teach them a lesson."

Fu Ya sat in the back, laughing heartily, nodding and saying "okay," her voice full of joy.

Before going to bed that night, Rong Lianhu talked about Rong Jiaojiao's behavior that day and said, "Wife, I think we should let Master take Jiaojiao away. Otherwise, before Jiaojiao is old enough to understand, she will be trapped in that small courtyard in the town. It's pitiful and it restricts the child's nature. We will also have to live in constant fear."

Fu Ya was reluctant, but Rong Lianhu was right. Suddenly, another question came to her mind: "Won't he take Jiaojiao back to his sect? Wouldn't that make it easier for Jiaojiao to be noticed as different?"

Rong Lianhu was stunned: "I haven't asked him yet, but he probably won't take her back to his sect, right?"

Uncertain in her heart, she thought, "Never mind, there's no rush. Let's ask again after get off work tomorrow."

"Okay, go to sleep!"

The next day, everyone went about their business as usual, but Wang Qiang, the company commander of the first company of the second battalion, was summoned for a talk by Political Commissar Jiang.

Wang Qiang arrived at the political commissar's office, knocked on the door, and called out, "Report!"

Commissar Jiang's voice came from inside: "Come in!"

Wang Qiang pushed open the door, strode in with neat steps, and gave a standard military salute: "Political Commissar, you wanted to see me?"
