Chapter 58 Jiaojiao: Father, Dog

He looked at Rong Zhigao, who took out a wooden dog carving: "I carved this myself with a knife, as a birthday present for my sister."

And you know what? The dog they made was incredibly lifelike! Qing Xuanzi sincerely praised them, "You're all very good!"

As the three were talking, they heard Rong Jiaojiao's voice coming from inside the room: "Father~~"

Qing Xuanzi immediately got up and went into the room. Rong Jiaojiao was already sitting up, looking for her master.

Rong Zhigao and Rong Zhiyuan immediately followed them inside, and as soon as they saw Rong Jiaojiao, they called out, "Little sister."

Hearing the voice, Rong Jiaojiao looked towards the two people. Upon seeing two familiar faces, her voice immediately became cheerful: "Dede~~"

A loud "tsk tsk" made the two little brothers overjoyed. Rong Zhiyuan shouted, "Little sister still remembers me! Little sister, I'm your second brother..."

Rong Zhigao was also happy. He took the small wooden carving and handed it to Rong Jiaojiao, saying, "Little sister, I am the eldest brother."

When Rong Jiaojiao saw her brothers, her eyes lit up. She reached out her little hands to them and made a series of "de de" sounds, clearly very happy to see them.

Qing Xuanzi stood aside, watching this scene, a gratified smile on his face.

All those days of teaching him to recognize people by showing him portraits were worth it; now he knows to call him "brother" as soon as he sees him.

"Come here, let your brother give you a hug." Rong Zhigao carefully picked up Rong Jiaojiao, afraid of hurting her.

Rong Jiaojiao squirmed in his arms, her little hands tightly gripping Rong Zhigao's clothes, making cheerful noises.

Rong Zhiyuan also came over and handed the colorful rag doll to Rong Jiaojiao, saying, "Little sister, this is a rag doll that your second brother bought for you. Do you like it?"

"Brother bought this from Sister Pan'er for five cents! Isn't it pretty?"

When Rong Jiaojiao saw the colorful rag doll, her eyes lit up instantly. She reached out and took the doll, poking her finger at its face.

Seeing that Rong Jiaojiao was squirming in Rong Zhigao's arms and that it was difficult for Rong Zhigao to hold her, Qing Xuanzi quickly took her and put her on the kang (a heated brick bed). He dressed her and then carried her to the kang in the outer room.

"Little sister, here you go. This is a puppy that your older brother carved for you."

Rong Zhigao waited until she was settled on the kang (a heated brick bed), then climbed onto the kang himself and handed the wooden dog carving to Rong Jiaojiao.

She took the wooden carving, looked at it curiously, and then handed it to Qing Xuanzi, saying, "Father, a dog."

Qing Xuanzi's smile faded; it felt like the girl was calling him a dog.

"Yes, it's from the dog, for you."

Fu Ya had been keeping an eye on the sounds inside the house, and when she heard her precious daughter's sweet voice, she couldn't stay in the kitchen any longer.

I lifted the curtain and went into the inner room. I saw my daughter, who had grown taller, fatter, and even cuter than she had four months ago. I couldn't hold back my tears any longer.

She called out softly, "Jiaojiao." Upon hearing the familiar voice, Rong Jiaojiao immediately turned around and saw her mother standing at the door, her eyes filled with confusion.

Look at Fu Ya, look at Qing Xuanzi, and call out incoherently, "Father, Mu Ma!"

It's as if it's asking, "Is this Mom?"

Qing Xuanzi nodded: "Yes, this is Jiaojiao's mother!"

Seeing her daughter's reaction, Fu Ya's tears welled up instantly. She quickly walked to the edge of the kang (a heated brick bed), bent down, and gently hugged Rong Jiaojiao, saying, "Jiaojiao, Mommy's good Jiaojiao..."

Rong Jiaojiao, nestled in her mother's arms, saw her mother crying and, somewhat helpless, sought Qing Xuanzi's help: "Father, cry!"

She gently patted Fu Ya's face with her little hand and said, "Mommy~ cry~"

Fu Ya hugged Rong Jiaojiao tightly and buried her face in the crook of her neck, which made Rong Jiaojiao even more at a loss.

Qing Xuanzi stood aside, watching this scene, a look of helplessness flashing in his eyes.

He knew how deep Fu Ya's longing for her daughter was, but he was afraid that her actions would frighten Rong Jiaojiao.

He said, "Okay, stop crying. Today is a happy day, you should be happy."

Fu Ya looked up, wiped away her tears shyly, and said, "Yes, today is a happy day. Our whole family is reunited."

Rong Zhigao and Rong Zhiyuan also came over, their eyes filled with envy as they watched their younger sister and mother hugging each other.

Rong Zhiyuan whispered, "Mom, we want to hug too."

Fu Ya smiled and said, "Okay, come over here and give me a hug."

She placed Rong Jiaojiao on her lap, then opened her arms and hugged her two sons as well.

The family hugged each other tightly, feeling each other's warmth; the scene was very heartwarming.

Seeing how reluctant they were to part, Qing Xuanzi simply went to the kitchen to keep watch, leaving them alone.

Once the porridge was cooked, Fu Ya also came out of her excitement and came to the kitchen, saying shyly, "Brother, let me do it!"

Seeing that he was alright, Qing Xuanzi nodded and left.

Just then, the sound of a car door closing came from outside. Qing Xuanzi scanned the area with his divine sense and saw Rong Lianhu returning.

He waved to open the door and went into the main room first.

Rong Lianhu was used to the door opening by itself when no one opened it. He walked straight into the courtyard, closed the door, and then followed Qing Xuanzi into the house.

Upon entering the house and seeing his chubby little daughter, he forgot everything else.

He went straight to the edge of the kang (a heated brick bed), calling out and reaching out his hands: "Daughter, Jiaojiao, come to Daddy for a hug. Do you still remember Daddy? Do you still remember your father?"

Before he could finish speaking, Rong Jiaojiao had already been picked up by him.

Rong Jiaojiao stared blankly at Rong Lianhu for a while before finally uttering two words in her childish voice: "Ba ba".

"Oh, my little darling!" Rong Lianhu's eyes lit up instantly when he heard his daughter's name, and his face was full of joy.

He held Rong Jiaojiao tightly in his arms, gently kissed her cheek, and said, "Jiaojiao, Daddy's little darling, I didn't expect you to still recognize Daddy."

Rong Jiaojiao looked at Rong Lianhu, then at Qing Xuanzi, and then at her two older brothers, calling out to whoever she saw.

"Ba ba, father, de de, de de..."

This series of shouts delighted the group, and Rong Lianhu repeatedly praised, "My daughter is so smart."

As Fu Ya listened to their cheerful laughter in the kitchen, she felt a strong urge to join in, and her hands moved faster.

He quickly made enough pancakes, ladled out all the porridge, and called out, "Zhigao, Zhiyuan, come and get the bowls and chopsticks."

"They're here!"

The two boys quickly got off the kang (a heated brick bed), ran to the kitchen to take the bowls and chopsticks that Fu Ya handed them, and happily ran back to the main room to set them up.

Qing Xuanzi also went to help, bringing out steaming hot porridge from the kitchen and placing it on the table on the kang (heated brick bed).

"Dinner's ready!" Fu Ya walked in carrying a plate of golden pancakes and said with a smile.

Rong Lianhu then remembered that he had come on a mission and quickly asked, "Brother, do you still have any prey?"

Qing Xuanzi raised his eyes: "The army wants it?"

"Yes, our minister said that we can have money or votes."

Qing Xuanzi shook his head: "There are plenty of prey in the mountains, but I didn't hunt that many. I couldn't bear to give away the venison, but I did have more than a dozen gazelles, all cleaned and with their internal organs intact."
