Chapter 39 The Knocking at the Door in the Middle of the Night

Feng Qing shouted excitedly, "Well done! Everyone, hurry up and tie up the wild boar. We need to get back quickly."

The soldiers acted quickly, tying the wild boar up with ropes they carried, then lifting it up to return to camp.

"Battalion Commander, now the brothers will have meat to eat!" a soldier said excitedly.

Feng Qing nodded and said, "Hurry up and go, don't delay the main mission."

They carried the wild boar back along the same route.

In the darkness, the soldiers' footsteps sounded exceptionally clear in the silent forest. Soon, they returned to camp.

When Song Qiming saw Feng Qing return with the wild boar, a big smile spread across his face. He gave them a thumbs-up and said, "Well done!"

Feng Qing saluted and said, "Commander, this is what we should do. These wild boars are enough for the brothers to have a good meal."

Song Qiming nodded and said, "Okay, have the cooks come and deal with these wild boars so we can give the brothers an extra meal."

The cooks got excited as soon as they heard there were wild boars.

The mountains were filled with joy, while the residential compound at the foot of the mountain was bustling with activity.

Fu Ya's breasts were swollen because she had started weaning Rong Jiaojiao, so she got up to apply a hot compress.

Unexpectedly, she heard a faint knocking sound, as if someone was gently knocking on the door. She thought she had misheard, so she went into the yard to listen carefully.

She heard two more sounds and asked, "Who's outside?"

There was silence outside again, then after a while two more sounds came out.

Fu Ya pursed her lips, picked up the hoe standing outside the kitchen, carefully walked to the door, and asked softly, "Who's outside?"

There was no answer from outside, but the knocking started again, this time clearer, like someone gently tapping.

Fu Ya's heart tightened. She knew that few people walked around the family compound at night, especially since it was already late at night.

She gripped the hoe tightly, slowly opened a crack in the door, but saw no one.

Just as she was about to close the door, she suddenly felt a weight on her trouser leg. Looking down, she saw a small, pale hand tightly gripping her trousers.

Fu Ya let out a startled cry. The sound wasn't very loud, but it was loud enough for someone with shallow senses to hear, especially since the house next door to theirs was the home of Li Youcai, the battalion commander of the 1st Battalion of the 3rd Regiment.

As a soldier, his alertness was far superior to that of others. Upon hearing the shout, he got up in the dark and put on his clothes.

Her wife, Zhang Lianhua, was woken up by her noise and asked, "What are you doing?"

Li Youcai said, "I heard someone screaming. I'll go out and see."

After saying that, he picked up the flashlight and left in a hurry. Zhang Lianhua fumbled to turn on the light, got dressed, and followed him out.

Fu Ya, after all, had been a field medic. She was just too shocked to react at first, and only after the initial shock did she realize what was happening and look at the ground.

A small figure lay on the ground, looking somewhat frightening in the night with only a few stars.

Fu Ya crouched down warily to check. Long hair covered her entire face. Was it a girl?

Having suffered all kinds of losses in battle, Fu Ya was not careless. Holding a hoe in one hand and parting the long hair with the other, she revealed the face of the person. She could vaguely make out that it was Wang Pan'er.

Looking at the other hand, which was pinned down by her, Fu Ya turned her over, revealing the hand that had been bandaged during the day.

Once she was sure it was Wang Pan'er, she shook her head and whispered, "Pan'er, Wang Pan'er."

No response.

Fu Ya felt that the parts of Wang Pan'er's body that her subordinates touched were burning hot. Fu Ya didn't have any suitable medicine at home, so she had to send her to the hospital.

(To explain: Wang Pan'er is depicted in more detail in these few pictures, but that's because she's a fairly important supporting character.)

But Fu Ya definitely couldn't manage alone, and she really didn't know who to turn to, when Li Youcai ran over and shouted, "Who's up ahead? What happened?"

As he spoke, he shone a flashlight on Fu Ya.

Fu Ya remembered the voice, and she shouted back, "I am Fu Ya. Wang Lianchang's daughter has fainted at my doorstep."

Their noise startled the neighbors, and one by one, the lights in their homes came on.

Upon hearing that it was Wang Pan'er, Li Youcai immediately realized what was happening. He quickly walked to Fu Ya's side, shone a flashlight on Wang Pan'er's face, and saw that her entire face was burning red, but there wasn't a drop of sweat on it, indicating that her condition was very serious.

"Pan'er! Pan'er!" Li Youcai called softly, but Wang Pan'er did not respond.

Fu Ya said urgently, "Battalion Commander Li, Wang Pan'er has a high fever, we need to get her to the hospital right away!"

At this moment, Zhang Lianhua also came over. Hearing Fu Ya's words, she knew that it was not good for her husband to escort someone alone with Fu Ya so late at night. Even if she didn't care, others would inevitably gossip if they found out.

She offered, "Youcai, go home and ride your bike. I'll go with you to take Wang Pan'er to the hospital."

Fu Ya said, "If anything happens, I'll be with you so that we can have a witness."

"good."

Fu Ya went back into the house to get a flashlight and went to check on Rong Zhigao and Rong Zhiyuan. Seeing that they hadn't woken up despite all the commotion, she didn't call out to them.

He pushed his bicycle out into the yard, and at that moment, Yang Guanghui, the deputy battalion commander of the First Battalion, and his wife also got up.

Upon seeing them, Li Youcai instructed, "Wang Pan'er's condition cannot be delayed. We must take her to the hospital first. Deputy Battalion Commander Yang, take your wife to Company Commander Wang's house and inform her husband."

"Yes, Battalion Commander."

The five people split into two groups, with Fu Ya and Li Youcai and his wife heading to the hospital.

The young doctor on duty in the emergency room that night was Xu Duan. When he saw a group of people rushing in, including Fu Ya, he immediately stood up and asked, "Dr. Fu, what's wrong?"

Fu Ya, holding Wang Pan'er, said urgently, "Dr. Xu, she has a persistent high fever and has fainted. Please take a look at her quickly!"

The young doctor immediately took Wang Pan'er, placed her on the hospital bed, and quickly began to examine her.

He touched Wang Pan'er's forehead and listened to her heartbeat, saying, "Her temperature is very high; we need to bring it down quickly."

He immediately called the nurse to prepare to give Wang Pan'er an injection to reduce her fever.

A moment later, a nurse came in carrying a tray, gave Wang Pan'er an injection in her buttocks, and then brought alcohol swabs to her armpits, palms, and soles to give her external physical cooling.

With this two-pronged approach, Wang Pan'er's temperature began to drop after half an hour.

The three people who brought her to the hospital relaxed a bit. Li Youcai checked the time; it was already past 2 a.m. He had official business the next day, so he said, "Dr. Fu, I have to go back. Are you going back now or not?"

Fu Ya was worried, since Wang Pan'er had fainted at her own doorstep, and she was also concerned that Wang Pan'er might have contracted sepsis, so she hesitated.

Seeing Fu Ya's expression, Dr. Xu Duan knew what she was worried about and said to her, "Dr. Fu, there's nothing you can do if you stay. You have to go to work tomorrow. Go back, we will take good care of her."
