At around four o'clock in the morning of the next day, a group of adults in the Li family got up. Old Man Li and Li Aijun drove a donkey cart to take Li Aiguo and his wife, Niu Cuihua and Li Mingxi to the county town.
Because the weather was warm, it was almost daybreak when we arrived at the county seat, and quite a few people were already waiting at the stop for the trip to the provincial capital. Niu Cuihua had originally wanted Li Aiguo to buy some food to eat on the way, but she was afraid the bus would leave soon, so she had to give up.
Sure enough, after a while, the driver of the car going to the provincial capital shouted for people to get on the car. As soon as the door opened, a large group of people rushed forward. Li Aiguo took the lead and led his eldest brother to squeeze into the car. When Niu Cuihua got on the car and sat down, they saw that the car was full of people.
After waving goodbye to Old Man Li, the car started. Looking at her old man's slowly getting smaller figure, Niu Cuihua suddenly felt a little sad. After all, it was the first time she was so far away from the old man, and she couldn't help feeling a little reluctant.
This reluctance was soon broken by the ticket seller.
The ticket seller came over to Niu Cuihua and the others and said without even looking up, "There are four of us in total. The ticket is 50 cents per person, so 2 yuan for all four of us."
Niu Cuihua: "Hey, I'm not saying why you charge me two yuan. My granddaughter is in my son's arms and she didn't occupy a seat. Why do you charge me money?"
The conductor said: "I don't care if you have a seat or not, that's the rule. Sit if you want, country bumpkin."
Regardless of Niu Cuihua's reaction, the ticket seller started collecting money from the next person.
Upon hearing this, Niu Cuihua immediately quit, "Who are you calling a country bumpkin?"
An old lady with short hair next to her heard something was wrong and immediately advised, "Sister, this group of people are like this, calm down."
Niu Cuihua said to the old lady, "Just take the money, why are you cursing? You're a city person, but I think you're not as good as us country people."
The old lady immediately agreed, "That's right. I don't know why it has become like this now. This group of people really owes a debt of gratitude to the comrades who sacrificed their lives back then."
When the ticket seller heard this, he curled his lips, looked at the two old ladies with disgust, collected the money and went to the front.
The old lady looked at Niu Cuihua, Li Aiguo and Zhang Huilan, all with sad faces, and asked them what was going on. Niu Cuihua told her everything.
After listening to Niu Cuihua's story, the old lady said, "Sister, I see that your granddaughter looks fine. It's nothing serious. You don't have to worry."
Niu Cuihua: "Well, that's what I said, but it's not a solution if this person never wakes up. I still need to see a big hospital to feel at ease."
The old lady said: "Well, you are right."
Niu Cuihua was so busy talking about her own affairs that she forgot to greet the old lady next to her. "Old sister, look at me, I was so busy talking about my own things that I forgot to ask you, what's your last name?"
The old lady said: "Oh, I forgot. My name is Hu Lan, you can just call me Sister Hu. I went to the provincial capital to see my son. My son insisted that I go with the army, saying that I am old and he is worried. So I asked for leave to go see him."
When the people around heard that the old lady's son was a soldier, their eyes immediately changed. After hearing the old lady's words, Niu Cuihua felt that the two of them had become much closer.
Niu Cuihua: "My son is filial. If he asks you to go, then go. He can help take care of the children. Living alone is never as comfortable as living with the younger generation."
Mrs. Hu: "That's right. I'm just worried that my daughter-in-law won't agree, and that would cause trouble for my son."
Niu Cuihua comforted him, "That's true. After all, we can't live with our son forever. We still have to live with him and his wife."
Along the way, Niu Cuihua and Old Lady Hu chatted a lot. It turned out that Old Lady Hu was the director of the Women's Federation of the neighborhood committee. She had a son and a daughter. Her son had joined the army and was now a regiment commander, and her daughter worked at the Women's Federation of the county committee. Although her husband had passed away early, she had led a good life, at least her two children were both successful.
Li Mingxi listened to her grandmother and Old Lady Hu chattering all the way in her space. Finally, they arrived at the provincial capital around noon. The two said goodbye reluctantly when they got off the car. Old Lady Hu also told Niu Cuihua not to forget to visit her home when she went to the county town to play.
By the time Niu Cuihua and the others arrived at the provincial hospital, some of the doctors had already left work. Li Aiguo, holding his child, led his wife and mother, standing at the gate like a headless fly.
Li Aiguo: "Mom, we just looked around but couldn't find Dr. Zhao. Is there no such person?"
Although Niu Cuihua also had some doubts, she remained calm and said, "No, Lin Zhiqing can't lie to us. He must have gone out to eat."
Xu Fengjuan came over when the family was discussing something. Usually, she would have gone to the cafeteria to eat by this time, but today she was busy and was late. She just noticed the family walking around the hospital, as if looking for someone, so she walked over and asked, "Auntie, what can I do for you?"
Niu Cuihua looked at the girl in a white coat standing in front of her, thinking that she must be a doctor, so she replied: "We are looking for Doctor Zhao."
Xu Fengjuan looked at the people who were dressed simply and could not find any connection between them and the neatly dressed Dr. Zhao. She couldn't help but wonder when Dr. Zhao had such relatives?
"Oh, is that Doctor Zhao Zhiqiang? We only have one Doctor Zhao in our hospital."
Li Aiguo said hurriedly: "Yes, it's Doctor Zhao Zhiqiang. We need to see him for something. Please take us to see him."
Xu Fengjuan glanced at the man holding the child and said, "Well, there's no one in the office right now. He should be eating in the cafeteria. I'll take you to find him now."
So Xu Fengjuan led a few people to the hospital cafeteria. Seeing Zhao Zhiqiang had just finished his meal, she quickly waved, "Doctor Zhao, someone wants to see you."
As soon as Zhao Zhiqiang picked up the plate, he saw Xu Fengjuan waving at him. He didn't want to pay attention to her at first, but when he heard her say someone was looking for him, he came over with the food.
