He wasn't lying to Xiao's mother. The Xiao family was just a confinement to him. Only by leaving the Xiao family could Qingyun make his mark in a wider world, instead of focusing solely on the Xiao family.

Qingyun never intended to stay in the Xiao family; she was just using this as an excuse to leave.

He walked slowly down the road. He had left his car in the garage of the Xiao family's old house. It was neither far nor close to the place where the Xiao family held the banquet, but Qingyun did not plan to go back to retrieve the car.

Just as he was thinking about what kind of transportation to take, a car slowly drove up and stopped next to Qingyun.

The car window rolled down, and sure enough, it was Zou Minchen again.

"What? Didn't you go back?" Qingyun raised her chin at him, the red marks on her fair neck were quite eye-catching under the dim streetlights.

Zou Minchen coughed lightly and looked away.

He opened the car door and said, "I was worried about you, so I came back to check on you."

"Oh, you're late." Qingyun's voice was sarcastic, but she didn't hesitate as she stepped into his car.

After all, if someone is eager to come to us, we might as well take advantage of it.

Zou Minchen smiled wryly and apologized to him, "I was too reckless today, but I really couldn't help it, you understand?"

He wasn't joking; upon seeing Qingyun, he even felt as if control of his body had shifted into the young man's hands. Strangely, Zou Minchen, a man long accustomed to high positions, showed no aversion to this feeling.

He enjoyed it immensely.

Looking at the aloof yet slightly eccentric profile of the young man beside him, Zou Minchen parked the car on the side of the road and looked at Qingyun seriously, saying, "You said you don't like having people around you, so I removed them all."

"I respect all your decisions." He took Qingyun's hand, a hint of pleading appearing on his usually stern face. "But, please give me a chance to get to know you."

Qingyun chuckled softly; he knew perfectly well what Zou Minchen meant.

He turned to look at Zou Minchen, raised his chin, and his expression was seven parts arrogance and three parts provocation: "Oh?"
