Chapter 81 Why talk so much?
When Lin Anyuan returned to the village, the village chief greeted him politely and asked him to move into an empty courtyard that the village had cleared out.
Lin Anyuan had done them a favor, so they should at least show their appreciation.
"Thank you for your kindness, Village Chief. I'm quite comfortable living in my courtyard; I've gotten used to it." Lin Anyuan said with a gentle smile.
Upon hearing this, the village chief sighed, "Since you don't want to move, then forget it. If the roof leaks later, just call for help, and we'll all help you fix it."
"Thank you, village chief."
After a while, the village chief couldn't help but speak nervously again, "Lin Anyuan, those bandits..."
He was terrified that night and had nightmares for several nights. Would the bandits come down the mountain to retaliate?
I've heard that bandits are quite vengeful.
"Don't worry, village chief, I won't come again. If there's nothing else, I'll be leaving now. I still have a lot of work to do at the yamen."
"Wait, are you working at the yamen now?" The village chief called out to him again.
Lin Anyuan replied, "I've found a small job; I still need to support my wife and daughter."
"Oh, oh." The village chief nodded repeatedly, thinking to himself, how insignificant is this little job? Will I even get to see the county magistrate?
When he looked up, he saw that Lin Anyuan had already left.
He turned and snapped at the woman in the kitchen, "Are you mute? Why didn't you invite us to stay for dinner?"
Regardless of the size of the task, it's now connected to the government, which shows that Lin Anyuan is capable, and we might need to ask him for help someday.
Zhao came out of the kitchen and retorted in a low voice, "If you don't say anything, what can a woman like me say?"
She didn't cook any extra food, and besides, didn't she send a chicken the next day? That's already more than enough; her family can't even afford to eat chicken.
The village chief smacked his lips. "Forget it, we should avoid provoking him in the future."
The village chief turned his attention to something else, saying he'd heard things were in chaos outside and he didn't know how he'd manage next year.
As Lin Anyuan walked out of the village, the villagers he encountered no longer turned away as they used to; most of them had smiles on their faces.
"Lin Anyuan, have you eaten yet?"
Several elderly women were sewing shoe soles under the tree, and they all looked at Lin Anyuan and asked him questions.
Lin Anyuan smiled and said, "Aunt Li, are you asking this because you want to invite me to your home for dinner? Or are you going to kill a chicken to treat me?"
Aunt Li's smile froze for a moment as she asked the question. "No, we've already eaten at home. If we hadn't, we would have definitely invited you to come over for a visit."
She was just asking casually, just saying hello.
"Really? I see smoke coming out of your chimney." Lin Anyuan looked towards Aunt Li's house.
Aunt Li said somewhat awkwardly, "That's boiling water, yes, boiling water."
Lin Anyuan had killed people, so she dared not invite him to her home for dinner; besides, there was no extra food at home.
Lin Anyuan smiled and said, "Aunt Li, look at you, saying one thing but meaning another. You don't want to invite me to dinner. Don't ask next time, or I'll take it seriously and you'll cry again."
Aunt Li almost pricked her hand with the needle she was using to sew shoe soles; her smile looked more like a grimace than a cry.
After everyone had walked away, he spoke to the women nearby.
"Oh dear, why did I have to be so talkative? This Lin Anyuan is really something..."
She's so good-looking, but her mouth is so suffocating.
It's only because of his bad reputation and the fact that he's keeping three money-losing girls that he's able to steal the hearts of countless young women.
Someone with sharp eyes spotted the people passing by the village entrance. "Look, aren't those Ye's family members?"
"Which Ye family?"
"And which other Ye woman is there? The Ye woman that Lin Anyuan bought!"
The women started talking all at once about the Ye family.
Ye Yaozu wandered around the village entrance for a while, but in the end he didn't dare to go looking for Ye Wan, so he turned around and went home.
As soon as I got home, I heard my mother and wife arguing again.
"I don't care, I just want to drink chicken soup. Ye Yaozu, you promised you wouldn't let me live a hard life."
Xianglan, her belly protruding, wiped away her tears. "Just think how much I've suffered since I came to your family. I'm carrying your son, and I can't even get chicken soup."
Old Mrs. Qian had a dark face. "Ever since you entered this house, I've been feeding and taking good care of you. How have I ever mistreated you? We just don't have any chickens at home."
If you still want chicken soup, why don't you go drink urine?
Ye Yaozu coaxed Xianglan into the house before speaking to Old Lady Qian.
"Mother, can't you be nicer to Xianglan? She's pregnant and still suspects my son."
When Old Lady Qian heard her son's words, she was furious. "I've practically been treating her like an ancestor. Fine, I'll settle the score with her when I can't give birth to a son."
Old Mrs. Qian heard the gossip in the village, saying that Xianglan's belly was so big that she must have been pregnant before she even entered the family.
Old Mrs. Qian didn't think the child belonged to anyone else; it must be Yaozu's.
That slut Xianglan, she's already pregnant and still dares to ask for a dowry of twenty taels of silver.
Old Mrs. Qian was seething with anger and had nowhere to vent it.
Ye Yaozu looked dejected. "Mother, what are we going to do now? There's not much food left in the house."
The family was already penniless from marrying Xianglan, and now they're running out of food. Xianglan is about to give birth, how are they going to survive?
"Go to your eldest sister's house and borrow some money and food first. Isn't your eldest sister doing quite well?" Old Mrs. Qian thought of Ye Hua again.
Ye Yaozu said in a low voice, "If we're talking about living a good life, Ye Wan is the one. The last time I ran into her, her clothes didn't have a single patch."
Ye Wan must be rich; those three good-for-nothings from Lin Anyuan's family go to town with him every day.
"Don't mention that good-for-nothing to me, he's an ingrate." Old Mrs. Qian gritted her teeth.
If it were just Ye Wan, it wouldn't be a problem, but Lin Anyuan, that plague god, is not someone to be trifled with, and she's afraid of him too.
"Mother, have you come to return the money?"
Ye Hua was feeding the chickens in the yard when she saw Old Lady Qian arrive and immediately asked her what was going on.
When Old Lady Qian saw the chickens in the yard, she immediately frowned. "I came to see you, you ungrateful wretch! You've forgotten you're still alive after you got married, haven't you? You've raised so many chickens and you haven't even given me one."
Ye Hua was stunned for a moment, and before she could speak, Wang Hu came out of the house.
"Oh, Mother-in-law is here. Come in and have a bowl of water in the main room."
When Old Lady Qian saw Wang Hu, a smile finally appeared on her face. "I won't drink the water. I came to see how you're doing."
Wang Hu glanced at Ye Hua, "Mother-in-law, everything else is alright, but there's one thing you have to say about Hua'er. She won't let me sleep at night; if I get close, she grabs a kitchen knife..."
He married women to sleep with, not to look at.
Upon hearing this, Old Lady Qian slapped Ye Hua across the face on the spot.
"You shameless bastard! Women are born to be slept with by men, and you, you slut, won't even let your son-in-law sleep with you! You've gone too far!"
"ah--"
As soon as Old Lady Qian finished speaking, the sickle at the door flew past her scalp, scaring her so much that she instantly collapsed to the ground, her crotch wet and hot.
Turning around, I saw someone standing at the gate of the courtyard.
