Chapter 20 Should we go to Qingfeng Tower?
"That's her, she got a tan."
Liu Wenshu told Yantai to stop the carriage and then jumped down himself.
Ye Wan greeted the guests, but looked at the stack of bamboo bowls with a bit of sadness. She would have to take them back to wash and reuse them.
Fortunately, people at that time didn't have any of those weird infectious diseases, otherwise she really wouldn't have been able to get over this mental hurdle.
Looking up, I saw a wealthy young man dressed in silk standing in front of me.
"Young master, it's you. Would you like a bowl of noodles?" Ye Wan greeted him with a warm smile.
A wealthy guest arrived.
"I'll buy your pears again."
Liu Wenshu opened the fan in his hand and, concise and to the point, got straight to the point.
Ye Wan looked regretful upon hearing this, "Young master, my old tree only had four pears this year. If there were more, how could I not sell them to you?"
She did want to sell, since the man looked wealthy, but she was afraid of being exposed if she sold too much. Otherwise, she would have made a fortune long ago by selling things from her spatial storage, instead of setting up a stall in the sweltering heat.
"Young master, why don't you try my family's hot and sour noodles? It's a family secret recipe, and it's delicious."
Ye Wan lifted the lid of the pot where the rice noodles were cooked.
The glass noodles are soaked in cold water, so they won't spoil even on a hot day. They simmer in hot soup, emitting a wonderful aroma.
Selling food requires a certain aroma, and Ye Wan clearly has a talent for it. To ensure it's perfect, she even added a bowl of spiritual spring water to enhance the flavor.
Liu Wenshu had no interest in this kind of street food, but the aroma was so enticing that he suddenly felt a urge to eat it.
"Give me a bowl."
Ye Wan was setting up her stall for the first time, and she didn't have a complete set of goods. She didn't even have a table, only small stools, the kind so small that you couldn't even fit your bottom on one. Sanya quickly moved one over for Liu Wenshu to sit on.
"Young master, the food at this stall is not clean."
Just as Yantai parked the carriage, seeing her young master wanting some, she muttered, "Have you forgotten that guy who sold candied hawthorns last time? He wiped his nose and then grabbed a candied hawthorn?"
These words made not only Liu Wenshu feel disgusted, but even Ye Wan felt a wave of nausea.
She quickly said, "Don't worry, I'll eat it myself too. I can't stand it if it's not clean."
The vegetable vendor chimed in, "This Mrs. Ye is indeed clean. I've been watching her. She's washed her hands ten or eight times. I've never seen anyone as clean as her on the whole street."
He just ate two bowls of noodles and is happy to say nice things to people.
Seeing that Ye Wan had indeed tidied up properly, Liu Wenshu felt relieved and sat down, lifting his robe.
Sitting down, I felt this chair was so damn cramped, maybe I shouldn't eat it.
Just as he was about to get up and leave, Ye Wan had already handed him the bamboo bowl.
"Give me a bowl too, it smells delicious." Yantai had already sat down by himself; as a pageboy, he wasn't so particular.
"The taste is really good. I'll try the jelly too."
Liu Wenshu ate until he was covered in sweat, and kept fanning himself with a fan.
"In this sweltering heat, the jelly isn't cool at all. Didn't you know to put some ice at the bottom?"
"Young master, ordinary people don't have ice." The inkstone was also hot, but it was a little better than the young master's.
The young master's clothes are made of silk, and they are too complicated and intricate; they must be hot.
Liu Wenshu thought it made sense and said to Ye Wan, "The taste is good. When your old pear tree bears pears next year, I'll buy them all. You can't sell a single one, and you can't eat any of them yourself. The price is negotiable."
Ye Wan nodded, "Okay, okay, I'll definitely sell them all to you, young master."
Who knows where she'll be next year? It's easy to say nice things to her.
Liu Wenshu stood up. "This tastes really good. I bet your family likes it too. Make me a few more portions so I can take them home."
Sitting at this stall is too cramped. If it weren't for the pears from last time, he wouldn't have sat down at all.
But I didn't expect it to taste so good.
"This tastes best when cooked fresh; it won't be edible if you take it home." The glass noodles ended up as a clump.
Actually, you can just soak the glass noodles in cold water and then cook them again later, but Ye Wan didn't want to say anything about it.
Without her unique soup base, the taste would definitely be different.
“It’s still too much trouble, forget it.” Liu Wenshu fanned himself with his fan. “I’ll hire you, you can come to our house…”
"Mother, have some water." Sanya, holding a bamboo cup, tugged at Yewan's hand.
Ye Wan was thirsty, so she smiled and patted Sanya's head, "Good girl."
The water in this bamboo tube is all spring water, and the other one is from Sanya, which contains some spring water.
Children change quickly, looking different every day. After Ye Wan has been cared for for a few days, her hair is no longer so dry and yellow, and her face has become fuller and cleaner. This child is quite good-looking.
After drinking the water, Ye Wan asked Liu Wenshu, "Young Master, what did you just say?"
"It's nothing, I'll pay for the inkstone."
Pay for the inkstone quickly.
As Liu Wenshu sat in the carriage, he remarked, "That woman looks like she's not married yet, and she's about my age. I never imagined she already has such a big child."
Sending a married woman to his house? Forget whether she'd be willing or not, his grandmother would break his legs if she heard about it.
"Isn't it normal for girls in the countryside to get married at eleven or twelve and give birth to daughters that old?" Yantai didn't find it strange at all.
"Young master, shall we go to Qingfeng Tower?"
"Go away, it's so hot."
...
...
"Sorry, we're sold out of noodles for today. If you want some, come early tomorrow."
"Hey, I just followed the smell here, how come they're all sold out?"
"Uncle, come over tomorrow and I'll add more noodles for you."
Ye Wan didn't expect it to sell so quickly on the first day. She didn't make much, and it was sold out before noon when it was the hottest time of the day.
After packing up her stall, Ye Wan asked the vegetable vendor next to her, "Brother, are you leaving now? Could you watch my car for a while? I'm taking my child to find her father, and I'll buy some vegetables from you when I get back."
"Okay, don't be shy, just leave it here."
The vegetable vendor was very friendly.
Ye Wan took Sanya for a walk around the market, but there were only the same things, nothing new to buy.
I went to buy some more seasonings; we only have a limited selection at home. Surprisingly, the most expensive seasoning is salt, while the others are relatively inexpensive.
As I came out of the shop, I ran into a peddler and saw some pretty headdresses. I thought I'd buy them for Sanya.
She used to dress up dolls when she was little, and she still has that hobby to some extent now.
The main reason is that Sanya is such a well-behaved child.
Sanya shook her head, "Mother, I don't want to, you wear it."
"It looks good on Sanya." Ye Wan picked up a butterfly-shaped beaded flower. "How much?"
“My lady has excellent taste. These are from the county town. They cost one tael of silver a pair, but if you buy a pair, I'll give you a discount.”
"Half an ounce."
The peddler snatched the beaded flower back from Ye Wan's hands.
Ye Wan: ...
Embarrassed, he quickly led Sanya away, awkwardly saying, "You'll have to bring your dad along for bargaining. Do you know where he is?"
"Brother Lin, what are you thinking about?"
Lin Anyuan was deep in thought when Zhang Fuhu pulled him back, almost causing him to lose his temper and lower his eyes.
