Chapter 5 Soaring Up Ninety Thousand Miles
The pears are bright orange, big and fragrant.
The four pears were each as big as a grapefruit, and Ye Wan couldn't hold them in both hands, so she simply used her clothes to hold them.
"Pears for sale! Big and sweet pears! Come and take a look!"
Having found a shady spot, Ye Wan began to hawk her wares.
Passersby glanced at her curiously, but showed no interest in buying anything. Some men, however, looked at her with ill intent.
Ye Wan noticed that she was the only one selling things around her, and immediately realized that she should go to the places frequented by wealthy people, such as inns and teahouses, to sell her wares.
She still remembered yesterday's market, but she decided to skip it; it was dirty and chaotic.
Just as they were asking for directions, a two-horse carriage slowly approached from not far away.
Without a second thought, Ye Wan went up to greet him, "Honorable sir, are you buying pears? They are definitely the biggest pears in our area."
The boy who was driving the carriage was about sixteen or seventeen years old. Because he was driving slowly, he stopped abruptly and glanced at the carriage with curiosity.
"The pear is quite big, but why is it being held in the hem of your clothes? That's so rude."
Seeing that there was a chance, Ye Wan immediately smiled warmly, "A beautiful flower doesn't need green leaves to set it off. My old tree only produced these few pears this year, which I planned to save for the elderly in my family. But there was an emergency at home, so I took them out. I was in a hurry and forgot about them."
How much does it cost?
On this sweltering day, the boy seemed to smell the sweet aroma of pears as soon as he lowered his head.
Thinking that if the young master didn't eat, he would eat it himself.
Ye Wan had just looked at the carriage and the clothes the boy was wearing, and after careful consideration, she gave a price.
"What? Ten taels!"
"Are these pears for the gods?! They're so expensive, why don't you just rob someone?!"
Upon hearing this, the boy's eyebrows shot up, and he raised his whip to urge the carriage on.
"Inkstone, what kind of pear is worth ten taels? Let me see."
Just then, the carriage curtain was lifted.
The person in the carriage was also a fair-skinned young man, about eighteen or nineteen years old, dressed in a deep blue robe, with a lazy voice, as if he had just woken up.
"Young master, you're awake?"
Yantai, who was rushing to catch the carriage, then realized that he had been too loud and woken up the young master. He glared at Ye Wan.
Ye Wan pretended not to see, and leaned forward a little while holding his collar. "Young master, look, I'm not exaggerating, this pear is refreshing and thirst-quenching, and it has a soft texture. Especially if you have elders at home who have a cough or poor appetite, eating one of these on such a hot day will be very comforting."
She was telling the truth; she wasn't just boasting.
She never expected that a branch she randomly picked up from the kang (a heated brick bed) and planted would grow into such a delicious pear.
These are some of the biggest pears on the tree; she's selling something fresh and unique.
Is ten taels expensive? No, it's not!
Liu Wenshu looked at the woman in front of him. Her face was flushed from the sun, and her hair was wet and stuck to her face. She had a warm smile and wore patched old clothes, but she didn't look dirty.
Even from a distance, you can smell the sweet aroma of the pears.
"I bought it."
"Young master, this, this..."
Yantai thought to himself, "This is too expensive! Don't they even try to bargain? Ten taels of silver could buy a servant. I've clearly been ripped off!"
However, seeing the young master's gaze, she didn't dare to say anything more, took out a food box from the carriage, and put the pears inside.
Then, with a pained expression, he pulled out ten taels of silver from his purse.
Tsk, he's been ripped off again. He and the young master are going to get a scolding when they get back.
Ye Wan was overjoyed and showered him with compliments, "Thank you, young master. May you soar like a roc on the wind, rising ninety thousand miles into the sky."
Liu Wenshu was sitting in the carriage when he heard the sound. He was about to pick up a pear when he paused. When he lifted the curtain again, the person had already disappeared.
Where are they?
"Young master, who is it?"
Yantai realized, "Oh, that woman from earlier, she ran away."
Upon hearing this, Liu Wenshu glared at Yantai, not seeing which way he had run off from.
I was thirsty, so I picked up a pear from the food box and took a bite.
That one bite left him completely stunned...
Ye Wan noticed that some people were looking over, so to avoid any trouble, she left immediately after receiving the silver.
There was a vendor selling bone broth noodles by the roadside. The aroma wafted into her nose, and Ye Wan, who hadn't eaten noodles in a long time, couldn't help but swallow.
In the attic.
Zhang Fu was sipping tea when he glanced out the window and saw the beautiful woman from yesterday.
Lin Anyuan's ethereal and untainted face immediately came to mind.
Feeling restless, I took a sip of tea. "This is truly excellent tea. It would be even better with some good food."
Mr. Zhang always felt a little itchy when he couldn't get his hands on something to eat.
I thought that if I said I'd pay fifty taels yesterday, this little beauty would be in my bed today, but those two poor bastards didn't even bring her.
The lackey beside him followed Master Zhang's gaze and immediately forced a smile. "Master Zhang, please wait a moment, I'll bring you the 'good dishes' right away."
Master Zhang didn't respond, but continued to sip his tea.
Across the street, Ye Wan stood at the entrance of the noodle shop. After hesitating for a moment, she decided to go to the clinic first and bring the person out.
Just as I was about to turn back, a person suddenly darted out from the roadside.
"Little beauty, which way are you going?"
"Get out of the way!" Ye Wan frowned as she looked at the person in front of her.
How can someone harass a respectable woman in broad daylight?
The lackey grinned, "My beauty, our master is upstairs inviting you for tea. Come with me."
Ye Wan looked up and saw the fat figure on the attic. Her face immediately darkened. How unlucky! It was that black pig demon.
"I don't know your master, get out of the way!"
As Ye Wan spoke, she turned to the side, but before she could leave, her arm was grabbed.
The lackey's grinning expression vanished, replaced by a threatening tone, "Little hussy, don't be so stubborn. My master has taken a liking to you; it's your good fortune. Your parents and father will also be able to enjoy the good life together."
"Do you want this good fortune? Get lost!"
Ye Wan kicked out, and taking advantage of the man's pain and loss of control, she turned and ran.
"You little bitch!" The lackey, his face contorted from the kick, yelled at the teahouse, "Men, tie her up!"
Four burly men rushed out of the teahouse in an instant.
Ye Wan realized something was wrong and ran towards a crowded area.
I hadn't run far when I bumped into someone.
There was a muffled groan from the person opposite, and Ye Wan was knocked back two steps. She was just about to apologize.
When I looked up, I met a pair of dark eyes.
