Chapter 12 Hungry
The previously noisy oxcart instantly fell silent, and everyone's eyes darted around, making sure not to look at Lin Anyuan.
"What are you doing...?"
Old Sun, who was driving the carriage, glanced at Sanya and Yewan.
This is the woman Lin Anyuan just bought. She doesn't look like she can endure hardship. I wonder if she'll run away again in a while.
Lin Anyuan threw four coins onto the cart, and Old Sun, the driver, immediately shut up.
Just give me the money.
Ye Wan looked at the broken wooden board, which was covered with some kind of excrement, and forced herself to sit on it despite her discomfort.
"Wang Ergou, if you look at me again, I'll gouge your eyes out!"
Lin Anyuan suddenly turned fierce and spoke to a man with a pointed mouth and monkey-like face next to him.
Wang Ergou trembled but didn't say a word.
The oxcart was unusually quiet the whole way; not a single person spoke.
When they finally arrived in town, the people on the bus started complaining as they saw Lin Anyuan get off the bus with Ye Wan and Sanya.
Wang Ergou cursed, "Old Sun, how could you let someone like that ride in your car? If you ever pick up Lin Anyuan again, I won't ride with him. It's so unlucky to sit with someone like that."
"They've already paid the man, why don't you go and say something?" Old Sun thought to himself, "What kind of good person are you anyway?"
Wang Ergou wiped his nose with his hand. "I'm afraid of getting beaten up."
As Ye Wan listened, she wondered what Lin Anyuan had done. Such a handsome man had a reputation that inspired both fear and disgust.
Lin Anyuan, who was standing next to him, suddenly spoke up, "Where to first?"
Ye Wan snapped out of her daze, glanced at the man's excessively handsome face, and suppressed the doubts in her heart.
"Let's go buy some fabric first. Does anyone in your family know how to sew clothes?"
She couldn't, and the original owner didn't seem to be either; her skill level was limited to threading a needle and patching a hole. The original owner had never had any fabric to make clothes from childhood; all the clothes she wore were hand-me-downs from her two older sisters.
Sanya spoke up, "Mother, my eldest sister knows how to make it."
Upon hearing this, Ye Wan thought it was all right and bought more fabric to have Daya make the clothes, showing no remorse for exploiting child labor.
Ye Wan was unfamiliar with the town, so Lin Anyuan led her to a small shop with a low-ceilinged facade.
Ye Wan selected enough sheets for each of the three children to make a set, and also selected two sets for herself and Lin Anyuan. They were all made of coarse cloth sheets. In the end, she chose half a bolt of better fabric to make clothes for close-fitting wear.
These fabrics are all in dark colors, so they look like they won't get dirty easily.
Although she had enough money to buy the best fabrics in the shop, it was best not to flaunt her wealth.
"A total of six hundred coins."
No sooner had the shopkeeper finished speaking than Lin Anyuan said, "Three hundred coins."
Ye Wan looked at Lin Anyuan, and thought, "Wow, is this the legendary 'half-price' bargaining?"
"How can you bargain like that? Since you're buying a lot, I'll give you the lowest price of 580 coins."
The shopkeeper glanced at Lin Anyuan several times. Such a handsome man, anyone who didn't know better would think he was some noble young master, yet he was haggling like a woman.
"Three hundred coins. Your material has turned yellow and there are dirty spots. It must have been peed on by rats. If you leave it any longer, the rats will have gnawed on it. Who would buy your stuff then?"
Lin Anyuan pointed to a stain and said in a serious tone.
The shopkeeper's face turned green. "The lowest price is three hundred and fifty coins. I can't go any lower. I won't sell it."
If it weren't for the principle of "harmony brings wealth" in business, he would have kicked them out.
He sold so much, and he only made ten coins. What kind of business is this?
"Thank you, shopkeeper. I'll come back to patronize your business next time." Lin Anyuan said as he went to get the fabric.
"Don't come again. If you come too often, I'll be so broke I won't even be able to afford food."
The shopkeeper waved his hand dismissively, as if swatting a fly.
"You're a grown man, and you're so good at bargaining? I never expected that."
As Ye Wan stepped out of the shop, she looked at Lin Anyuan with some delight.
If it were her, she would have bought it for 600 coins. Good heavens, that would have cost her so much money. Now she's penniless and wishes she could stretch every penny to its limit.
Upon hearing this, Lin Anyuan's gaze turned cold for a moment, and a sarcastic remark was on the tip of his tongue.
The next second, Ye Wan excitedly said, "Bringing you here was the right decision! I really admire you. Let's go to the next place, and I'll treat you to something delicious with the money we saved."
Lin Anyuan's originally cold gaze softened somewhat as he looked at the smug person next to him talking to Sanya.
She seems genuinely happy because she can save money?
Ye Wan led Sanya for several steps before realizing that Lin Anyuan hadn't moved. She turned around and called out to him, "Come on, why aren't you moving?"
"I'm hungry." Lin Anyuan said lazily, not even standing up straight, but he was still inexplicably charming and handsome.
Ye Wan withdrew her gaze, swallowed hard, and said, "I'm hungry, I'm hungry too. Let's go get some noodles first."
The bone broth noodles I had last time smelled amazing.
"It's you, or is it a bowl of soup?"
When they arrived at the noodle shop, the waiter saw Lin Anyuan and asked him something.
Ye Wan raised an eyebrow. Was Lin Anyuan a regular customer?
"Two bowls of noodles, extra soup," Lin Anyuan said, pointing to Ye Wan. "She'll pay."
The waiter glanced at Ye Wan, his lips twitching for a moment. This kid, he always only drinks the soup when the noodles cost fifteen coins a bowl, and he was wondering how he could be generous this time.
The result was that he became a gigolo and lived off women?
The broth is made from pure bone broth, the noodles are very chewy, and it's sprinkled with chopped green onions—it smells wonderful.
Ye Wan, who hadn't eaten noodles in a long time, had her eyes squinting with satisfaction.
He turned to Sanya and said, "Sanya, is that enough to eat? I'll give you some more if you need more."
She gave half of it to Sanya.
"Enough, the noodles are delicious." Sanya ate without even looking up.
Ye Wan thought to herself that this little girl was really starving. She was so small, yet she could eat so much food, almost as much as she could eat.
"You guys eat first, I'll be right back."
Lin Anyuan suddenly put down his bowl and stood up.
"Why is your dad so busy? He only ate two bites and then..."
Ye Wan was speechless for a moment when she looked at the clean bowl. Wasn't she afraid of burning her esophagus eating so fast?
Ye Wan finished the soup in her bowl and was sweating profusely, but Lin Anyuan still hadn't returned.
"Would you two like to order more?" the waiter asked as he came over to collect the bowls.
"No, thank you."
Ye Wan took Sanya out and waited nearby. Lin Anyuan saw them when he returned.
"Sanya, I'll buy you a hair accessory."
Ye Wan heard the vendors shouting that hair ornaments only cost a few coins, and that little girls should be raised to be beautiful.
Sanya shook her head, "Mother, I don't want flowers, I want meat."
You can't eat the flower petals, the meat is the best.
"You little glutton, alright, let's go buy meat."
Ye Wan waited for a while, but Lin Anyuan didn't return. So she told the waiter that if Lin Anyuan came back and asked, he should go to the market to find them.
It's already quite hot at this time of day, and the market is bustling with all sorts of random things being sold.
Ye Wan looked at the two different kinds of fish she had bought, thinking that she would have more fish than she could eat. She asked the people around her where she could buy chicks, as long as they were edible.
Last night, she suddenly realized something: her space in the apocalypse only had storage functions because there was nothing for her to grow.
Now that we've arrived in this beautiful place, we're finally starting to shine.
Thinking about it this way, time travel doesn't seem so tragic after all; at least the food is all green and natural.
While Ye Wan was shopping with Sanya, Lin Anyuan followed a tall, strong man to a secluded alley.
Upon reaching the entrance of a small courtyard, the tall, muscular man jumped over the wall and disappeared.
Lin Anyuan frowned. If he wasn't mistaken, this person looked like the one from the mountain last night.
