Chapter 40 Having a Son

Chapter 40 Having a Son

What's wrong with you?

When Ye Wan brought San Ya back, she saw Daya and Er Ya looking dejected as they guarded the stroller.

"It's nothing," Daya shook her head.

Ye Wan handed the two steamed buns she had bought on the way to Daya, saying, "Have some, let's go home."

Er Ya couldn't hold back any longer and said in a tearful voice, "Nothing's wrong. After you left today, a scarred guy came and said he wanted to collect protection money. He said he had to pay two taels of silver a month, and if we didn't pay, he would come every day."

She was afraid that if she couldn't continue her business, her family's life would finally get a little better.

Two taels! How long would it take her to save up that much money?

"Let's go home first."

Ye Wan thought that Lin Anyuan must have connections, otherwise he wouldn't have been able to rent a stall so quickly.

When he got home, Lin Anyuan didn't come back either.

Ye Wan had no choice but to cook first, and then prepare the noodles to sell tomorrow.

Daya took Sanya to feed the chickens, and the chicks had grown quite a bit.

At this moment, Lin Anyuan was standing near the small courtyard with elm trees.

"Boss, I'm sorry, I didn't expect those two to be so skilled." Wang Dachui lowered his head and let Chu Shi bandage his wounds.

He actually let them escape; those two rats were really too cunning.

"As long as they're in town, they won't get lost." Chu Xiujie hadn't expected that these people could escape from Wang Dachui's clutches.

He had seen through Da Chui's skills; otherwise, he wouldn't have made an exception and taken him in.

"Stop looking for the tokens for now, keep a close eye on them, lest we end up doing all the work for someone else."

As soon as Chu Xiujie finished speaking, Chu Qi came in. "Boss, when I came here just now, there was someone watching us near the courtyard."

Chu Qi's expression was serious; he followed after them but lost track of them.

Chu Xiujie stood up abruptly, a mocking look on his face. "Fine, fine, they actually dare to come looking for us. Then let them never leave alive."

At this moment, Lin Anyuan was standing near a general store, looking up at the setting sun.

By now, the food should be ready.

Unfortunately, he won't be able to eat today.

He then took off his long robe, pulled his straw hat down, and dangled a blade of grass in his mouth. The man who was so refined just a moment ago now looked like a hoodlum, walking forward in a slovenly manner.

They arrived at a dilapidated temple in the wilderness. The temple was in ruins and overgrown with weeds. There were no gods or Buddhas in the temple, only beggars.

The people who were lying haphazardly inside immediately turned over and stood up upon hearing the noise.

"Brother Lin, you're here?"

"Brother Lin, you haven't been here for so long, what have you been up to?"

...

...

Lin Anyuan did not return home again that night.

Ye Wan got up early, loaded the soaked vermicelli onto the cart, fed the chickens, locked the door, and took her three daughters to town as usual.

When we arrived at the village entrance, Old Sun was already waiting.

"Uncle Sun, I'll have to trouble you to wait a little longer in town today." Ye Wan laboriously lifted the cart onto the oxcart and paid the fare.

"No trouble at all, no trouble at all. Lin Anyuan wouldn't be so polite," Old Sun said cheerfully.

He used to work as a driver, sometimes only earning a little money after several days. But now things are great; he has money every day, a steamed bun, and his grandson, Xiaoshun, can even eat meat.

"Hello, Big Sister, Second Sister, Hello, Third Sister." A little boy of about five years old greeted the three girls from the edge of the car.

"Shunzi, don't call me Er Ya anymore. My name is Qing Dai, Lin Qing Dai." Er Ya happily showed off her new name.

"My eldest sister is called Qing Shuang, and my third sister is called Qing Yao."

"Lin Anyuan named it? It's a nice name."

Daya spoke up, "Mother named it, Father only knows how to name lotus and apricot blossoms."

"Good, your mother is good. When you grow up, you must take good care of your mother." Old Sun thought Ye Wan was really a good woman, a good wife.

“Grandpa, I want to show my respect to you too,” Xiao Shunzi said hurriedly.

"Grandpa's little Shunzi is good too."

When Ye Wan saw San Ya touching her hand, she smiled and said, "San Ya is the best girl."

"Did you see that clearly? It's that little slut, isn't it?"

Not far away, Old Lady Qian and Ye Yaozu hid behind a tree, peeking out furtively.

"If it's not her, then who is it? I've heard from others that her business is booming." Ye Yaozu glared at Ye Wan with hatred.

Old Mrs. Qian gritted her teeth and said, "Let's go to your eldest sister's house and get the money together first."

I said I would go last time, but something came up at home and I had to cancel.

"Ye Hua, your family has come."

Ye Hua was sweeping the yard when she heard the sound and turned around to see Ye Yaozu and Old Lady Qian standing at the door.

"Flower, we've come to see you!" Old Mrs. Qian said with a big smile.

Before Ye Hua could react, Wang Hu came out to greet her, "Mother-in-law is here? Come in and sit down, Ye Hua, go get some water!"

The leaves and flowers did not move.

Wang Hu smiled and said, "That's just her temper. I'll get you some water."

Old Mrs. Qian's face immediately darkened, and she scolded Ye Hua, "A woman follows her husband wherever he goes, whether he's a chicken or a dog. How dare you disobey your husband? That's how I taught you when we were at home!"

"Mother, just tell me what brings you here?" Ye Hua finally responded.

She's been married for so long, and suddenly her mother and younger brother remembered her. They clearly told her not to come back the day they sent her away.

"Your younger brother is getting married, and the family has sold everything they own, but they're still short five taels of silver. Can you lend it to me first? I'll pay you back when I have the money." Old Lady Qian didn't beat around the bush and stated her purpose directly.

Ye Hua smiled bitterly, "You said it yourself, a woman follows her husband wherever he goes, whether he's a chicken or a dog. Where would I get this money?"

Sure enough, she had just held onto a sliver of hope, thinking that they had heard about her situation and were there to support her.

Old Mrs. Qian shoved Ye Hua in exasperation, "You good-for-nothing! Your womb is useless too. You don't even know how to give birth to a son so your son-in-law will listen to everything you say."

Then, with a fawning smile, he said to Wang Hu, "Son-in-law, lend me the money first. I'll definitely pay you back when I have the money."

Without saying a word, Wang Hu gave her the only five taels of silver he had left.

Old Mrs. Qian and Ye Yaozu left happily with the money.

Ye Hua looked at Wang Hu and said, "You lent the money out yourself. If you can't get it back, don't blame me."

"How could your mother and brother not pay back?" Wang Hu looked at Ye Hua.

Ye Hua didn't want to talk, so she went to scoop water from the water tank.

Wang Hu grabbed her and dragged her into the house. Ye Hua's face changed, and she struggled, shouting, "Let me go!"

"Didn't your mother just say that you have to give me a son? Your sister only said I'm not allowed to hit you, but she didn't say I shouldn't do these kinds of things!" Wang Hu couldn't hold back any longer as he looked at Ye Hua, whose face had recovered.

Ye Hua struggled and cursed, "Pah, you useless man, you want to have a son? Dream on!"

"You bitch!"

Wang Hu's face instantly darkened.

"Brother Hu, Brother Hu, is your wife home? My grandma wants her to help me thread a needle."

There was a knock on the door, and Ye Hua quickly tidied her clothes and hair.

"Can't you help your grandma thread a needle?" Wang Hu opened the courtyard gate and said irritably.

Wang Ming, standing outside the door, scratched his head. "I'm a grown man, how could I possibly know how to sew? Tiger, are you going to the docks today? Take me with you!"

Ye Hua glanced at Wang Ming, then turned and took her sewing basket from the house to Wang Ming's house.
