Chapter 102 Establishing Prestige
Ye Wan breathed a sigh of relief when she heard the people outside leave.
"Don't be afraid, people only dare to come at night. We'll take turns keeping watch, nothing will happen."
Ye Hua looked nervous. "Okay, you go to sleep first. I'll keep watch."
Ye Wan wanted her to go to sleep first, but she figured Ye Hua wouldn't be able to sleep anyway, so she went back to her room first.
After Ye Hua went inside, Ye Wan went into the courtyard and entered the space.
She could see outside from inside the space and hear any movement immediately.
"Aunt, why did you go out?"
Inside the room, Sanya rubbed her eyes, having been woken up by the noise.
Ye Hua patted Sanya and covered her with a blanket. "Sanya, go to sleep. I can't sleep, so I'll do some needlework."
"I told you it's bad for your eyes to stay up at night, Auntie, you should go to sleep too," Er Ya muttered as she covered her head.
Daya woke up when she heard the noise in the yard. She wanted to say something but didn't. She couldn't sleep either, so she got up and made clothes with Yehua.
The clothes belonged to her father, who had been arrested.
Da Ya felt terrible.
That night, Ye Hua and Daya stayed awake until dawn.
The next day, just as dawn broke, Ye Hua went into the kitchen.
Ye Wan was already in the kitchen. She pushed the person out, saying, "Big sister, you and Daya go and get some sleep. I'll cook."
The candles in the two people's room had been burning all night, and now Ye Hua's eyes were dark circles.
"It's alright, I'll help you." Ye Hua said, and started to start the fire.
“We’re sisters, I’ll get angry if you keep doing this,” Ye Wan said unhappily.
"Okay, I'm going to sleep. Don't cook meat today. Who eats like this every day?" Ye Hua thought her younger sister didn't know how to manage money.
Last night we had meat, and this morning we're making chicken again.
Er Ya said from the kitchen doorway, "Auntie, this is compensation from someone else."
Ye Wan said, "Go to sleep. We eat like this all the time. It's not specially made for you."
Ye Hua then fell silent.
Ye Wan made chicken porridge, and didn't keep the leftovers. She simply stir-fried them, and if they couldn't finish them, she would eat them at noon.
Thinking to himself that if things didn't work out, he would bring Aunt Cai and Old Man Ke to the village so that the whole family could be together and take care of each other.
She went there yesterday, and things are relatively peaceful there for the time being. Perhaps they didn't want to cause her any trouble, so they didn't plan to come to the village.
Aunt Wang came again right after I finished breakfast.
"Have you heard about what happened to the Zhang family?" Aunt Wang asked in a low voice as soon as she entered the room and saw Ye Wan.
"What's up?"
“Yesterday, when the sun was almost setting, that La Mei, Zhang Erniu’s aunt’s daughter, went to Old Zhang’s house with a big belly and then stayed there. The whole village is talking about it. How come you didn’t know?”
Aunt Wang was helping out at the Zhang family's house yesterday; so many people were there, they all saw it.
"She's heavily pregnant and is staying at Zhang Erniu's house? Isn't the Zhang family holding a funeral?" Ye Wan feigned surprise.
Yesterday, she wanted to find a way to cure Zhang Erniu's problem, and she thought of his cousin who had broken off their engagement.
I didn't expect Lamei to be so helpful; she came to my door that very day.
"It's a funeral. Lamei's mother died not long ago. Lamei said the child in her belly is Zhang Erniu's."
"Is the child in his cousin's belly Zhang Erniu's?" Ye Wan was genuinely surprised this time; she didn't know that Lamei was pregnant.
"Who knows if that's true? But the two were engaged before and were related. Zhang Erniu's father is honest, so he let Lamei stay."
Aunt Wang felt ashamed even talking about it.
Ye Wan clicked her tongue, "Good thing, so Zhang Erniu won't want my Daya to be his slave."
"You have a really interesting way of speaking," Aunt Wang chuckled.
The words Ye Wan had used to insult Zhang Erniu had already spread throughout the village.
"Could I be wrong? Isn't that exactly what they're planning? I'm a pampered girl at home, how can I marry into another family and suffer?"
Aunt Wang glanced at the three girls several times upon hearing this, and said with a smile, "These three girls are so lucky to have such a good mother like you."
Look at the kind of life we had before, and look at the kind of life we had after Ye Wan entered the house.
"Right, Aunt Wang? I also think my mother is the best." Er Ya said proudly.
Now, no girl in the village can compare to the three of them.
"Auntie, take this back and add it to your dish." Ye Wan went to the kitchen and came out carrying a bowl of stir-fried chicken.
Aunt Wang had originally intended to talk about something else, but seeing this, she quickly declined, saying, "Oh dear, what are you doing? I just came to visit."
Ye Wan shoved the news into her hand. "We're from the same village. I know you're kind-hearted and came all the way here to tell me this news, so please don't be shy with me."
"This...this is too much trouble," Aunt Wang finally accepted it.
As soon as he reached the door with the bowl in his hand, his eldest daughter-in-law came to greet him.
"Mother, how is it? Does Madam Ye have any intention of doing that?" Her eyes lit up when she saw the bowl in her hand. "Mother, where did this meat and vegetables come from?"
Aunt Wang carried it into the courtyard, saying, "It was given to me by Madam Ye."
The eldest daughter-in-law's eyes lit up upon hearing this, "Then there's hope?"
Since they've given her the meat, Ye Wan must be happy about it.
His younger brother from his maternal family is also quite good-looking, tall and tall, and a good match for Ye Wan.
Aunt Wang rolled her eyes at her. "I didn't mention that thing at all. It's too unethical to do that. Let's just forget about it. Don't bring it up either, okay?"
Lin Anyuan might come back in a couple of days; they wouldn't do such a thing.
Even if someone is dead, it's still immoral to advise a widow to remarry.
The eldest daughter-in-law dared not disobey her mother-in-law's wishes and could only suppress her thoughts.
"Stone, where are you going?" Aunt Wang called out as she saw her youngest son running outside.
"I washed the dishes and delivered them to them."
"I've never seen this kid so diligent before; he's even neglecting to eat."
Aunt Wang muttered something to herself, then suddenly froze.
Could it be that her son has also set his sights on Ye Wan?
Aunt Wang hurriedly chased after him, yelling, "You brat, come back right now!"
...
...
"Little sister, how many people have come this morning?"
Ye Hua didn't look too good during lunch.
Ye Wan replied calmly, "Six."
Six men came with all sorts of excuses; do you even need to guess what they were thinking? They were just taking advantage of Lin Anyuan's absence.
Some were interested in Ye Wan, while others were simply there to steal.
"Little sister, what should we do? If this continues, something bad will happen sooner or later." Ye Hua felt that this trip was definitely worthwhile.
She couldn't help but feel sad again. If her family were more reliable, and even if her brother-in-law wasn't around, would those people dare to have such thoughts?
If all else fails, let's go stay at her house for now. Wang Hu is a coward, but at least he's a man, and the people of Wangjia Village are united.
Just as Ye Hua was about to speak, she heard Ye Wan say, "After we finish eating, let's go to the village chief's house."
Ye Hua asked, puzzled, "What are you going to the village chief's house for?"
"Go and establish your authority."
