Chapter 15 Getting Scolded

Chapter 15 Getting Scolded

"Father, you're back?"

As soon as we entered, Er Ya ran over and, seeing Dong Xili, hurriedly asked, "Did you all go to town? Did you take San Ya with you?"

"Okay." Lin Anyuan responded as he carried things inside.

Ye Wan carried the chicks into the yard first. He needed to find something to quickly give the chicks water, otherwise they would really die.

Er Ya glanced at her and rolled her eyes. "Why didn't you tell me when you left? San Ya was all alone, which scared me to death. I thought this woman had sold San Ya out."

Some women are heartless and like to sell children.

"You bought so much stuff in town? You even bought a hair accessory for Sanya? Why didn't you take me with you? She's so little, will she even be able to put it on properly?"

When Er Ya saw the little blue flowers and beads on San Ya's head, she immediately got excited and reached out to take them.

Sanya covered her head, "No, Mother said I'm pretty."

This was put on her by her mother; no one is allowed to touch it.

Er Ya stomped her feet in anger and shouted at Lin Anyuan, "Dad, what about mine? Why did you buy one for San Ya but not for me? How can you be so biased?"

"Your mother bought these. You and Daya both have some fabric to make new clothes." Lin Anyuan came in carrying a pile of fabric.

"Why should I? She's part of our family, and we have her money too. Why won't she buy me anything? Sanya, give me your flowers!"

Sanya refused.

Er Ya coaxed San Ya, "Be good, let your sister wear it. You don't have much hair, it won't look good on your head."

Ye Wan looked up at Er Ya and said, "You're dark-skinned, so flowers don't look good on you."

"You're the one who's dark-skinned, you..." Er Ya was so angry she jumped up and down, she was practically going crazy.

He pointed at Ye Wan for a long time, then realized she wasn't dark-skinned, which made him even angrier.

"chicken?"

"Why did you buy chickens? We're not even getting enough to eat at home, where would we get extra food to feed the chickens?" Er Ya muttered to herself as she watched Ye Wan fiddling with the chicks.

I just can't stand Ye Wan.

Ye Wan pretended not to hear and said, "Lin Anyuan, you build me a chicken coop. Sanya, you watch the chickens. I'll go cook. Oh, and where's Daya?"

"Father, I'm back."

No sooner had she finished speaking than Da Ya walked in.

Ye Wan said without any politeness, "You're back just in time. I don't know how to sew, but Sanya said you do. I'll take two sets, and you can arrange the rest."

Er Ya said, "Why do you want two sets? Have you no shame? Big sister, make me three sets. I want three sets."

Ye Wan raised an eyebrow and glanced at the dark-skinned girl. "Who's shameless here? I bought the clothes, so whatever I say goes. If you're not happy, don't wear them."

Why is this child so unlikable?

"I'll wear it. You're just a servant in our household, what right do you have..."

Lin Anyuan interrupted Er Ya, "Er Ya, I told you she is your mother, so you are not allowed to talk like that anymore."

“Father, speak to her too.” Er Ya’s eyes reddened instantly. “As expected, having a stepmother means having a stepfather. Fine, I’ll leave.”

After saying that, he ran out of the yard.

"Er Ya!" Daya shouted as she rushed to chase after them.

Lin Anyuan frowned. "Don't chase after him. He'll know when he's come back once he figures things out. Why are you being so dramatic?"

Ye Wan brought out a plate of spiritual spring water from the kitchen without looking up. "I still want to go and check on her. She's a girl after all. It doesn't matter how she's raised at home, but I don't want her to run out and get into danger."

Daya said gratefully to Ye Wan, "I'll go check on Erya first, and then I'll make the clothes when I get back."

"Sanya, go watch the chicks, I'll go cook."

Ye Wan put down the plate and went into the kitchen. Soon, the aroma wafted into the yard.

Today's meal is plentiful, with both fish and meat.

As the sun set, Lin Anyuan, who was nailing a chicken coop, looked up and saw Sanya, who was clean and wearing flowers, catching ants to feed the chicks. He was silent for a moment, then lowered his head again and began to whittle the wood.

...

...

Er Ya ran out and ran all the way to the riverbank, throwing stones into the water.

Daya followed and called her home.

"I won't go back, you vixen! You wicked woman!" Er Ya cried and cursed at the same time.

They actually criticized her for being dark-skinned. So what if she's dark-skinned? She got tanned from sun exposure.

So what if Ye Wan is pretty? What's so great about her? She was still sold off by her own mother.

Daya sighed, "Stop scolding her. She didn't do anything wrong. Actually, she's quite good. At least she's very good to Sanya. Why are you so angry?"

Er Ya wiped away her tears. "I just can't stand her. I can't stand anything she does. So what? Are you going to side with her too, Big Sister?"

Da Ya sighed helplessly, "Your temper has gotten worse and worse these past two years. Putting everything else aside, what good does it do you to go against her?"

"Have things been better at home these past two days since she came in? At least there's meat on the table now, don't you want to eat meat now? Besides, you have new clothes to wear, what's wrong with saying a few nice words?"

Daya thought Ye Wan was pretty good, but Er Ya was just prickly.

Er Ya pouted, "It's just a lucky break. She should be the one trying to please me. Why should I try to please her? I don't want to!"

She simply cannot bring herself to humble herself and act as a subservient mother.

Only Sanya, that good-for-nothing, keeps calling her "mother."

Daya coaxed, "Alright, let's go back. I think we'll have meat to eat today. If you go back too late, you won't get any."

"She dares not leave any for me!"

Ye Wan was really bold; she didn't leave any behind.

She's not going to spoil her child since it's not her own. If she runs out during mealtimes, it means she doesn't intend to eat.

When they had only one piece of meat left, Daya returned with Erya.

Upon seeing that the meat on the table was gone, Er Ya glared at Ye Wan several times in anger. When she saw Lin Anyuan looking over, she gritted her teeth and remained silent.

Ye Wan placed the last piece of braised pork into Sanya's bowl, saying, "Sanya, eat more, so you can grow up to be pretty."

Er Ya's eyes turned red.

Daya quickly pulled Erya down to sit and picked up a piece of fish for her.

The meat is gone, but the fish is still there.

Ye Wan's cooking skills, combined with the spatial element inside, meant that everything tasted good. Lin Anyuan even thought that the taste was no worse than that of a master chef.

Er Ya was about to nitpick, but once the fish entered her mouth, she stopped talking.

Ye Wan raised an eyebrow; she was already full and went straight back to her room.

She's already cooked the meal, but she's not going to wash the dishes.

Daya wanted to finish making clothes while she could still see, so the task of washing dishes fell to Erya.

Er Ya didn't want to do it, so she tricked San Ya into washing the dishes.

Ye Wan heard it but didn't care. She had just glanced at the space and wondered if she was seeing things.

Just as I was about to go in and take a closer look, Lin Anyuan walked in.

"The chicken coop is nailed up, take a look and see if it's okay."

"Why don't you see for yourself? Haven't you seen it before?"

Ye Wan glanced at Lin Anyuan, wondering if he would sleep on the same kang (heated brick bed) with her again tonight.

"Never seen her before." Lin Anyuan looked Ye Wan up and down.

Ye Wan looked down at where he was looking, then immediately hugged her chest. "What are you staring at?"

Lin Anyuan scoffed, "How do you know I'm looking at you if you're not looking at me?"
