Chapter 42 Let's do a big heist

Chapter 42 Let's Do a Big Heist

These beggars wandered around the market, and though they were chased away, they didn't get angry. They gathered in an abandoned alley.

"Little monkey, how come you always manage to get food? And it's always meat buns, damn it."

A burly man with a stubble beard stared wide-eyed at the little boy who was only waist-high to him.

“You grown men are all healthy and strong, so of course no one will give you anything. But I’m different; I’m still a child.”

The boy, nicknamed "Little Monkey," was fifteen years old. He finished the meat bun in a few bites and wiped his mouth.

"Tch, you poor thing, you didn't steal it, did you?"

The little monkey's expression changed instantly. "Qin Da Sha, say that again? When did I steal anything!"

"Try calling me that again!" the big man glared.

"Stop arguing, how about we pull off a big heist?"

Lin Anyuan, who hadn't spoken until now, leaned against the wall and lazily opened his mouth.

I didn't sleep well last night, and I can't help but yawn now.

"Brother Lin, have a steamed bun. I saved one especially for you." The little monkey immediately came over with a big smile and took out a meat bun from his pocket and handed it to Lin Anyuan.

Lin Anyuan glanced at him, then yawned, "I'm not eating, you eat it yourself."

Qin Gan patted his chest and said, "Brother Lin, just say the word if you want to do something big. If it weren't for you, we would all have starved to death. Our lives belong to you. We will do whatever you say, and we will go through fire and water without hesitation."

"Yes, yes, we'll all listen to Brother Lin!" The remaining six people immediately echoed.

These people came in all shapes and sizes, and without exception, they were all dressed in filth, like beggars.

"Alright, stop shouting slogans. I don't care about your lives. Come with me tonight..." Lin Anyuan lowered his voice.

"Stealing? Brother Lin, if you get caught, you'll have your hand chopped off." The little monkey blinked at Lin Anyuan.

"Why don't we just set a fire? Then the investigation won't trace it back to us."

Lin Anyuan straightened up. "It would be such a waste to burn down such a nice house."

"Besides, is it stealing from animals? It's taking."

The little monkey nodded. "That makes sense, but I don't think it's a pity, since we can't live there anyway."

"Let's go, let's go, follow Brother Lin, and we'll get to eat meat."

One of them suddenly spoke up, "By the way, Brother Lin, I told you you bought a wife? You've been home with your wife and kids, haven't you? You almost forgot about your brothers. We're exhausted from carrying sacks at the docks."

"You know what, I really didn't remember." Lin Anyuan put on his straw hat, covering his conspicuous face.

"Brother Lin, your mouth is so sharp."

"..."

...

“Hey Granny Cai, what do you eat every day? It smells so good that my dog, Gou Dan, is crying and making a fuss.”

In the small courtyard, the steamed buns weren't cooked yet when the woman next door came knocking on the door with her child. As soon as the door opened, she peeked inside.

"Is this another one selling face powder? Wow, have you guys really struck it rich?"

“What fortune? This is my daughter.” Aunt Cai came out of the kitchen and wiped her hands.

"Are you better now?"

"You two old folks have a daughter? I've never heard of her before. How unfilial of you! You didn't even come to visit you."

Once the woman started talking, she couldn't stop.

Aunt Cai casually said, "My daughter married far away and only recently came back to see me."

"Your daughter married into a well-off family, right? At least she doesn't lack food or clothing." The woman's eyes darted back and forth between Ye Wan and the three maids.

"Why are you asking so many questions? Is there anything else? If not, let's go." Aunt Cai said impatiently.

"Grandma Cai, you've cooked meat, haven't you? Give my Gou Dan a bowl. He keeps crying to me; the child is so hungry for it." The woman tugged at the child in her arms.

The six- or seven-year-old child looked silly and was still sucking his thumb.

"You have good stuff at home, but I haven't seen you share any with me, let alone a bowl of meat. How can you be so shameless?" Aunt Cai said, and went straight to close the door.

"Pah, you old codger! We all live in this poor alley, what's so great about us! I wonder where that meat came from!"

The woman outside cursed and swore for a while before falling silent.

"Godmother, do you know where in town there are houses with a better environment?" Ye Wan glanced at the dilapidated little courtyard.

"What are you doing? We've lived here for so long, we're used to it and don't need to change."

Aunt Cai waved her hand, saying that if she were to change, she would have done so long ago. She said that living here was quite nice, and if anything happened, they could just have a fight and it would be fine, even though the environment was a bit dilapidated.

Ye Wan smiled and said, "I was just thinking that it's quite inconvenient to travel back and forth from the village. I'll rent a house and put the cart in town so it will be easier for me to push it out."

That's really what she thought.

Aunt Cai looked up at Ye Wan and said, "Alright then, I won't stand on ceremony with you."

Ye Wan laughed heartily, "I just love my godmother's straightforward personality."

Aunt Cai was embarrassed by the laughter and turned to urge the old man, "Go and see if the buns are cooked yet, so they can all try my cooking. Later, I'll go sell buns with my goddaughter."

"Cough cough... You're so old, why are you still acting on a whim?" The old man coughed helplessly.

Aunt Cai glared at him, "How am I so old? I feel perfectly healthy, even better than before."

The old man coughed, not daring to speak, and hurried to check on the steamed buns.

The steaming hot buns are fresh out of the steamer.

"This is a wild vegetable bun, have a taste." Aunt Cai put the wild vegetable bun into her husband's bowl.

The old man's eyes reddened after taking a bite, "Back in the day..."

"Stop, let's not talk about the past."

As she spoke, Aunt Cai picked up a steamed bun and started eating. "Life is better now, isn't it? Why talk about the past?"

"Yes, people should always look forward." Ye Wan handed a meat bun to Sanya and Daya.

The wild vegetables were for the old man with the cough; there weren't many in total.

As for Er Ya, she had already taken some and eaten it herself.

"It's delicious! I feel like my cooking skills have improved since I was sick. Before, when I made steamed buns, everyone praised them, but they were just so-so to me. Now they're really delicious!" Aunt Cai exclaimed with emotion.

How can a wild vegetable bun taste so good? Does she have this skill?

"Wild vegetable buns are actually tastier than meat buns? That can't be true." Er Ya didn't believe it.

She's eaten wild vegetables before, and they're awful. Who would eat them if they weren't starving?

"You eat meat, so don't talk." Ye Wan stuffed a meat bun into her mouth.

"How can you be so annoying?" Er Ya glared at Ye Wan angrily.

"Are these two also the daughters of the man you married?" Aunt Cai looked closely at Daya and Erya.

Then he suddenly spoke up, "He must be thirty, right? A beautiful flower stuck in cow dung, how shameless."

"Haha, godmother is right." Ye Wan burst out laughing.

It's like a beautiful flower stuck in cow dung.

Lin Anyuan is cow dung, haha.
