Chapter 67 This world has gone mad!
Ye Wan glared at him, gritted her teeth, and said, "Eat!"
I'll make you mute.
Er Ya came out of the house and said gloatingly, "Hahaha, Dad, don't open your mouth and say anything, or you'll make Mom run away, and our family won't be able to eat such delicious food anymore."
Lin Anyuan looked at Er Ya and clicked his tongue, "Didn't you refuse to call her 'Mother' before? Now you're taking her side? You have no conscience."
"Of course I'll side with Mother, she loves me." Er Ya proudly touched her hair. "Mother, do I look pretty in this flower?"
Her face was covered in burns, and she was wearing a pink velvet flower.
Ye Wan twitched her lips. "It looks pretty good, but your face is a bit dark."
"Mom, can you please stop saying I'm dark-skinned? I'm just tanned from the sun. I'll be fair-skinned again someday." Er Ya proudly pouted with her delicate fingers.
Last night, with so many bandits around, the mother still protected the three sisters. Er Ya thought her mother was really good, and she no longer restrained her temper.
"Hmm, it'll get whiter if you keep it covered up a bit more. Sanya, come sit here with me."
Ye Wan waved to Sanya, who was looking at her expectantly.
"I want to sit with Mom too."
"Brother Lin, are you home?"
The group was eating in the courtyard when a shout suddenly rang out at the gate. Officer Li appeared at the gate, covered in sweat.
"Brother Lin, your house is really hard to find. Why do you live in such a remote place? Come on, your master needs to see you."
Officer Li, panting heavily, wiped the sweat from his brow.
Lin Anyuan hurriedly stood up, helped Li the constable and said to Ye Wan, "This is Brother Li. I just arrived at the county office and don't understand many things. I am very grateful to Brother Li."
"Brother Li, you've come all this way, come in and have some water and food." Ye Wan immediately greeted him warmly.
She poured water, and Daya served rice.
After drinking a bowl of tea, which was sweet, Officer Li finally felt his throat feel hot and dry.
He glanced at the chicken on the table and said, "Let's skip the rice; the adults are waiting."
How come Lin Anyuan's family, which is so dilapidated, still has meat to eat?
"No matter how urgent it is, we can't rush this meal. At worst, we can run back." Lin Anyuan pulled Officer Li to sit down.
"This chicken was given to me by the village chief. Brother Li is so lucky."
Officer Li was starving, and he wolfed down a bowl of rice. Not daring to eat more meat, he couldn't help but give a thumbs up, "My sister-in-law's cooking is really good, no less than that of a chef in a restaurant. Brother Lin is very lucky."
"Brother Li, have some more. It's too hot to keep them fresh, and they'll spoil easily." Lin Anyuan put a chicken leg on Li's plate.
Unable to refuse, Officer Li couldn't resist eating it again.
"Why are you in such a hurry to find me, sir? Has something happened?" Lin Anyuan asked, picking up a piece of green bean from the meat.
Officer Li paused for a moment, then saw that the three maids had already left, and Ye Wan was washing Sanya's hands, so he lowered his voice.
“We’re all brothers, so I’m telling you this, but you absolutely mustn’t tell anyone else… The people who attacked the village last night weren’t bandits.”
Lin Anyuan was surprised: "Burning, killing, and looting, if they're not bandits, then who are they?"
"yes……"
Officer Li pointed meaningfully upwards.
Lin Anyuan had a hunch, and it turned out he was right.
This world has gone mad.
"Brother, you absolutely mustn't tell anyone about this, or we'll all be in big trouble."
Officer Li only dared to reveal a little because he accidentally saw the letter the magistrate received, and since Lin Anyuan was indeed a good person and he had heard that Lin had saved the villagers last night.
God knows how his heart nearly jumped out of his throat when he saw it.
Lin Anyuan put down his chopsticks and stood up. "I didn't ask anything today, and Brother Li didn't say anything either. Let's hurry up and leave, lest the adults get impatient."
Ye Wan took out two bamboo tubes filled with water and smiled warmly, "Brother Li, this is wild tea that I brewed myself. Take it with you and drink it if you get thirsty on the road."
Officer Li took the document and said enviously, "Brother Lin, you are so lucky to have such a virtuous wife."
Ye Wan handed the other one to Lin Anyuan, saying, "Come back early tonight."
She had something to ask.
Lin Anyuan's heart suddenly raced a few beats, and he replied, "Understood."
Why are you suddenly acting so gentle?
Could it be that she has ulterior motives?
Ye Wan had no idea that Lin Anyuan was overthinking things; she just wanted Lin Anyuan to come back as soon as possible to find out what was going on.
"Brother Lin and his wife have such a good relationship. Hurry up and go, don't keep the adults waiting."
After the two left, Ye Wan locked the courtyard gate from the inside.
I had just locked the door when I heard someone knocking.
Da Ya opened the door and found Widow Tian from the village and her son Mancang.
"Aunt Tian, what brings you here?" Daya asked, letting the girl in.
Widow Tian stood at the door, holding a basket in her hand, looking nervously at Ye Wan in the yard. "I came to thank you. If it weren't for you, I, I..."
"Don't cry, you're perfectly fine. Come in and sit down so we can talk." Ye Wan invited the person in.
Widow Tian then brought her son in.
“I saw a lot of people in the village this morning, and I was afraid people would gossip about you, so I didn’t come over. I saw your husband go out just now, so I came in.”
Widow Tian put the basket on the table in the yard, pulled her son up, and said, "Mancang, quickly kowtow to your aunt. She is our savior."
"No, get up quickly. Didn't you fall in the mountains?" Ye Wan hurriedly pulled him up.
"These are vegetables I made myself. I don't have anything fancy at home, so please don't mind them."
Widow Tian opened the basket, inside were several small, clean earthenware jars.
"Sister-in-law, you're too kind. Da Ya, please get me a pair of chopsticks."
Ye Wan opened one of them, and inside were pickled green beans. They tasted really good. She immediately smiled and praised, "Sister-in-law, your cooking skills are really good. It's perfect to save them for breakfast porridge."
She wasn't lying; it really was delicious.
Widow Tian breathed a sigh of relief when she saw that Ye Wan didn't mind at all, and then smiled as she spoke to her.
Before long, Widow Tian realized that Ye Wan was a really nice person.
Before leaving, he said that next time he made kimchi, he would send it to Ye Wan as soon as possible.
Widow Tian left, and Ye Wan was also tired. She told Daya to put away the pickled vegetables to eat with the porridge.
"Tsk, your dad did a great thing. We won't have to suffer from people's disdain in the village anymore."
When Ye Wan showed Er Ya the burns, she couldn't help but speak up.
Look at this morning, the house has been busy the whole time; basically everyone in the village has come.
Daya spoke softly, "Mother, it's because you're a good person that the villagers are willing to associate with you."
She was telling the truth.
Ye Wan laughed, "You have such a sweet tongue. Alright, you three sisters can play now. I'm going back to my room to take a nap. I'm sleepy."
Ye Wan yawned as she went back into the house, her mind still on what she had just heard from Officer Li.
If the people planning to massacre the village weren't bandits, then who were they?
Up...
The Imperial Court!
Ye Wan had just lain down when she suddenly sat up in shock.
It just feels absurd and outrageous. Has the world gone mad?
