The college entrance examination was resumed, and 5.7 million candidates competed for that elusive hope.
The last of the two-day college entrance examination is over, and all kinds of life are happening outside the examination room.
There were cries and laughs, howls and cheers, and silent tears.
Many educated youth who had no time to prepare burst into tears. They had abandoned books several years ago, and it was not easy to pick them up again. During the two months of preparation, they had not even finished reading a single book.
Not all educated youth were lucky enough to meet a good teacher who could guide them.
"Let me go! Help! Someone's killing me!"
The shrill and unpleasant scream attracted the candidates who were rushing out of the examination room, and everyone looked in the direction where the sound came from.
Gu Zuozuo and the other two had just met up and were preparing to go to the state-owned restaurant for dinner. Li Mo had already booked a table there.
Hearing the familiar voice, the three of them turned around.
Li Yamei was dragged out with her hair disheveled by Aunt Yang, who was cursing at her.
"You little bitch! You still want to take the exam? Don't even think about abandoning your husband and children! Your life is destined to be my son and daughter-in-law! You want to go back to the city? Only after I die!"
Li Yamei had never hated someone so much before. For a moment, she even wanted to die with this family!
"Let me go! I'm an educated youth! You have no right to lock me up! Help!"
Aunt Yang's face was distorted. She pulled Li Yamei's hair and walked out. The force was so strong that a few strands of her scalp were pulled off. She turned pale with pain. She was already thin and weak, and was no match for Aunt Yang, who was good at work. She could only be dragged away.
“What are you doing!”
Some educated youth who couldn't bear to see this stepped forward to stop the people and tried to snatch Li Yamei from Aunt Yang.
Unexpectedly, Aunt Yang was not afraid at all. She slapped the male educated youth who stepped forward to stop her, knocking him down.
Gu Zuozuo and the other two grinned and looked at the dumbfounded male educated youth with sympathy.
Before the male educated youth could react, a petite girl jumped up and swung her long braids into the air.
He grabbed Aunt Yang's hair with both hands. With his small body and great strength, he knocked the big and strong Aunt Yang to the ground.
"Old woman! I'm so proud of you! How dare you lay hands on my man? If I don't teach you a lesson, you won't know how ugly you are!"
As he said this, he raised his little fist and punched Aunt Yang again and again, making her scream. When he had a chance, he did not forget to glare at Li Yamei with a look of disappointment on his face.
"Are you still not running? Are you waiting to be caught?"
Li Yamei finally woke up from her dream, bowed to her gratefully, and then hurried away, her back looking embarrassed and flustered.
After the girl climbed up from Aunt Yang, she dragged the male educated youth away and disappeared. Aunt Yang was still lying on the ground crying out in pain. No one around her helped her. They all watched the fun with glee and pointed at her.
Gu Zuozuo touched his chin and looked at Meng Tian and Qi Meng uncertainly.
"I remember that girl was the one who went to the next brigade with us in the countryside. Her name was Zhu something."
"Zhu Yaoyao, the one whose fiancé is blind."
Meng Tian kindly reminded Gu Zuozuo, and she suddenly realized what was going on. She asked why he looked so familiar.
"She just said that the educated youth was her man? Then where's her fiancé?"
Meng Tian sighed and looked back in the direction Zhu Yaoyao left.
"Remember those cases we discussed a while ago where the wives abandoned their wives and children, and ended up committing suicide by jumping into the river?"
Gu Zuozuo nodded, already having a premonition in his heart.
"One of them was Xie Boyan. I heard he and his mistress used connections to return to the city, leaving their country wife behind and sending her a divorce papers. The girl couldn't handle the blow and jumped into the river, leaving behind a son who was less than three years old."
"Scumbag!"
"Rubbish!"
Qi Meng and the other two cursed with disdain.
Meng Tian was amused by the two of them, and her eyebrows curved.
"Do you think the young man Zhu Yaoyao is holding looks familiar?"
Gu Zuozuo and the other one tilted their heads at the same time, their expressions showing the same confusion.
"He was one of the male educated youth who went to the countryside with us. He was the one who was scolded for trying to help Guo Meiyu onto the tractor. He is now married to Zhu Yaoyao."
Among the three of them, Qi Meng was busy with love affairs all day long, Gu Zuozuo's whereabouts were mysterious and she was often missing, and she was the only one who stayed in Malutun, so naturally she knew more gossip than the other two.
The three of them were talking as they walked towards the state-owned restaurant. As soon as they entered, they saw two unexpected people.
"Why are you here?"
Xie Jinyu spread his hands innocently and motioned Gu Zuozuo to look at Jiang Bei beside him.
"I'm here with someone."
A look of embarrassment flashed across Jiang Bei's rough face, and the eight-foot tall man blushed in embarrassment.
Gu Zuozuo suddenly felt a toothache. He looked at Qi Meng who had been abducted with the flowers and pot, and then looked at Meng Tian who was about to be taken away with the flowers and pot. He couldn't bear to look at them and walked straight past several people into the state-owned restaurant.
Her eyes would hurt if she looked at it for one more second.
Xie Jinyu's eyes were full of smiles. He patted his brother's shoulder to encourage him, and then followed him.
"How did you do on the test?"
Gu Zuozuo glanced at him arrogantly and snorted.
Xie Jinyu touched the tip of his nose and poured her another cup of tea.
"Uncle Gu and Aunt Gu have been rehired by Jingda University, and the state has returned part of your family's property. However, they don't want to return to Haishi. What about you? Will you go home after the acceptance letter arrives?"
