Chapter 31

Chapter 31

never mind.

Xu Zhou turned around and walked back, passing the second corner. Then came the third room, she remembered what the woman said.

She walked and looked at the house numbers and room numbers.

one.

two.

The third one.

There is no house number.

Xu Zhou stood in front of the door, looking around and waiting for a while. No one passed by. She leaned forward slightly and put her ear to the door. She didn't know whether it was soundproof or because there was no one inside, but there was no sound.

Three seconds later, Xu Zhou pushed open the door and she met two pairs of eyes - there were two men standing in the room, holding a stack of papers in their hands.

hiss--

It turned out that he was waiting for her here.

Xu Zhou's heart tightened.

"Who are you? What are you doing here?" the man in black asked unkindly. The other man in white looked at Xu Zhou curiously.

"I'm here to get the key." Xu Zhou met the gaze of the man in white clothes and knew at a glance that he was the one with the final say, and the man in black clothes should be his assistant.

"At least make up a better lie. Key? Where is the key?"

"It's here." Xu Zhou lied with his eyes open.

There were two operating tables in the room, large dark stains on them, likely from after the apocalypse. They had nothing to do with the dusty desks piled in the corner. In front of the man in white was a computer, the blue light from the screen faintly visible against his white clothes. Looking around, this room certainly didn't look like a place to keep keys.

"Okay, then you go find your key," the man in white said. "I hope we won't disturb you."

After saying that, the two of them continued to look at the computer screen and no longer paid attention to Xu Zhou.

Where can I put the keys?

Xu Zhou's head remained still, her eyes darting around. Seeing no place for a key, how could she possibly conjure one? She held onto the doorframe, pondering possibilities for exiting the room.

Suddenly, she saw a wooden cabinet.

She glanced at the two people who were still looking down at the computer and walked towards the wooden cabinet.

If you don't have a key, then conjure up a key.

Xu Zhou squatted down and took out a key from the cabinet. Just as she was about to stand up, she found two dark shadows reflected on the cabinet in front of her. These were not her shadows. Her shadow could not grow three heads.

"Have you found it?" I don't know which man was asking.

"Found it," Xu Zhou replied calmly. Her left hand made a clanging sound, and in her palm was a bunch of keys. The two people behind her naturally saw it too.

“So there really is a key here.”

"Why didn't we notice it when we came here?"

"I don't know. Maybe we didn't look carefully enough."

"Okay, that makes sense."

The conversation behind her suddenly faded—Xu Zhou suddenly fainted. She felt a sharp pain in her neck. It was the shadow on her left that had shot her. She couldn't escape because she was already pinned down by the shadow on her right. The man was too strong. She wanted to resist, but she couldn't.

Before she fainted, she had only one thought in her mind: would the key be taken away by them?

The footsteps faded away, and the woman followed the man out of the laboratory building quickly.

"Sister Sheng, I remember that the third room is not... where is the key?" the man asked.

The woman glanced at him and said, "Have you arranged yours?"

“I’m working on it.”

"good."

The woman looked back at the fourth floor of the laboratory building. The windows were closed and the curtains were all drawn. She couldn't see what was inside, and the sun was hidden behind the laboratory building.

Her eyes were dark and unclear.

"Hurry up."

Two people came running towards them. They were the people checking passes at the school gate. They passed the woman, nodded casually at her, and then ran into the laboratory building.

The woman walked in front.

The man walked behind with his head down.

They seemed to be the only two walking on campus, but in reality, many more people were hiding in plain sight. Red rays swirled around the teaching buildings, connecting to form an unfamiliar pattern.

Birds chirped.

The man in black carried Xu Zhou to the operating table. He shook his arms and complained, "I didn't expect she was still a bit heavy."

"Is it possible that you lack exercise?" The man in white glanced at his thin arms. "Your arms are even thinner than hers."

“I’m malnourished.”

"Yes, yes, it's due to poor nutrition. I don't know who is the one who stays in the lab every day without even getting any sun."

"I don't know, but it wasn't me."

Xu Zhou was lying face up. The man in black took out instruments and put them on Xu Zhou. He handcuffed Xu Zhou's wrists and ankles to the operating table one by one, and took out a syringe from the freezer below. The tail end of the syringe was connected to a thin tube, which led to the next room.

The man in white was typing on the computer.

"The person Sister Sheng sent is in really good condition. I don't know where he was kidnapped from."

"It doesn't matter where it came from, as long as it's useful." The man in white stopped and looked at the unconscious Xu Zhou. "Are you done?"

"alright."

The man in black filled the syringe with blue liquid, pointed the needle at Xu Zhou's arm, eager to try.

Man in white clothes presses button.

"start."

The man in black inserted the needle into Xu Zhou's forearm and gently pushed the blue liquid in the syringe into Xu Zhou's body.

Here, the man in white clothes stared at the screen intently. On the screen was a fluctuation graph, which was used to monitor the fluctuation trend of the blue liquid after it entered Xu Zhou's body.

The blue liquid completely entered Xu Zhou's body.

Nothing changes on the screen.

One second.

One minute.

Three minutes passed, and there was still no change on the screen. The man in white patted the monitor and checked the circuit lines again.

"What's going on? Why hasn't anything changed?"

Upon hearing this, the man in black dropped the syringe, walked to the screen, and saw a very stable straight line.

"No, I didn't take the wrong liquid."

The man in black checked the wires of the instruments on Xu Zhou's body, and then checked the computer equipment, looking it over inside and out to confirm that there was no error.

"What's going on?"

"I don't know."

The two looked at each other.

The tiny needle didn't leave any trace. The man in black grabbed Xu Zhou's arm, which was smooth except for a tiny dot—the needle mark from earlier.

"How about we try again?"

The man in black took out another syringe, which contained the same blue liquid.

"OK."

The man in white pressed the button, and the man in black injected the blue liquid into Xu Zhou's body.

The syringe is empty again.

The man in white was always paying attention to the changes on the screen. The man in black threw the syringe into the trash can and came over to look at the computer screen.

Two heads pressed together.

A straight line was reflected in his eyes, a very straight line. They had never seen such a straight line before.

I don’t know how many minutes passed, but the line was still so straight.

"Is this a fake person?" the man in black asked. He reached out and pinched Xu Zhou's arm. "It's soft and feels like flesh. It's made quite realistically."

"...Are you crazy?" the man in white gave the man in black a cold look. "Can the dummy talk? Will it faint after being exposed to anesthetic?"

"Then why did she not react at all?"

"How should I know? I'm not her."

"...So what should we do now?" The man in black was speechless. "Why did the person Sister Sheng sent this time have such a big problem? Did she send the wrong person? But he seems to be a good person."

How strange, it's impossible that she isn't human, right?

Wait a moment--

What if she really isn't human?

The man in black suddenly realized what was going on. He quickly patted the man in white and told him his guess: "Do you think she might not be human?"

"How can..."

The man in white thought about the experiment he was doing recently. Could it be that the madman's experiment was successful? He was confused.

"Draw some blood to see if she's human."

The man in white clothes said this and originally wanted to urge the man in black clothes to do it, but he couldn't wait any longer, so he took a blood collection needle from his hand, aimed at Xu Zhou's blood vessel and inserted it.

Start drawing blood.

No movement.

No blood.

The man in white took out a scalpel from the operating table and cut Xu Zhou's wrist.

As he expected, no familiar colors appeared.

She is not human.

In other words, she is a zombie, a zombie with intelligent consciousness, the advanced zombie that the madman has always wanted to research.

"Did you see it?" asked the man in white.

"I saw it," the man in black nodded. "Sister Sheng is amazing! She found the experimental subject that even a madman couldn't find."

"She's just lucky." The man in white clothes didn't care.

"Didn't we just waste two bottles of medicine?" The man in black suddenly thought of this. "If that madman knew about this, he would force us to pay back the debt for ten years!"

The man in white raised his hand and gave him a slap on the face. "We already have such a perfect test subject, are you still afraid of wasting two bottles of medicine on him? Now that we have the stuff, he has to obey us obediently."

The man in black rubbed his forehead: "I understand."

"Now that you know, go get that set of equipment. We have to hurry while that madman goes out for experiments. We have to make money from such a good experimental subject!" The man in white seemed to see the beautiful life in the future through Xu Zhou.

"Got it." The man in black opened the hidden door and walked next door.

"My dear Miss Zombie, don't worry, we will definitely treat you well." The man in white clothes rubbed his hands and said, his eyes full of fanaticism.

Xu Zhou was unconscious, but her consciousness emerged. She felt like she was in ice water one moment and then in magma the next, feeling both cold and hot.

Suddenly a voice sounded: "I'm back, did you miss me?"

It's the system's voice.

Xu Zhou opened her mouth but no sound came out. Only then did she remember that she seemed to be in a dream.

Xu Zhou tried desperately to wake up, but her eyelids seemed to be covered with glue and she couldn't open them no matter what she did. She couldn't move her hands or feet. She was like a vegetable, with only her brain still functioning.

"Yes! I'm here!"

Xu Zhou screamed frantically in her heart, trying to attract the system's attention. But all she got in response was bubbling ice water and boiling lava. She was right in the middle of both.

I don't know what this dream is like. It feels a little real, but not real at the same time.

"System, did you hear that? System? I'm right here."

The little man in Xu Zhou's mind waved wildly.

The system did not respond.

She continued to wave.

She only remembered being knocked unconscious by the two men in the room, and then waking up... No, she didn't wake up. It was as if someone had forcibly locked her body, and she was trapped in an eggshell, a very hard eggshell. She felt weak all over, unable to see the edge of the eggshell, and had no idea how to break it from the inside.

She is not an egg-laying animal and doesn't quite understand this kind of operation.

The only way she could get out was for someone to break the eggshell from the outside.

After the system said a word, there was no sound anymore. Xu Zhou even wondered if it was his illusion.

Xu Zhou was tired of shouting and waving, so she decided to stop and float on the water.

Although she couldn't swim in the real world, she could do anything in her mind. Not only could she float on the water, she could also lie on the water with her legs crossed and even turn over.

She could do anything but get out.

This is an indescribable state.

It can be considered as an early experience of what it feels like to be in a vegetative state.

Continue to comfort yourself during the day.

"I'm here, I'm here, I'm here to save you." The system voice sounded again, like the sound of nature, bringing the news that Xu Zhou most wanted to hear.
