Shen Yu'nan noticed Pei Wu's approaching footsteps and hung up the phone at the opportune moment.
"It's chilly outside, why are you standing in the hallway getting chilled?"
"Cough cough..." Shen Yunan turned around slowly upon hearing Pei Wu's voice, and replied in a hoarse voice, "I...I answered a phone call."
"...."
Pei Wu glanced at Shen Yu Nan. Even though he was trying his best to calm himself down, he couldn't hide his slightly trembling shoulders and reddened eyes.
Pei Wu stepped forward and supported Shen Yu Nan's shoulder, her brows furrowing slightly as she asked, "What happened?"
Shen Yunan looked up at Pei Wu. His eyes were already red, and when he heard Pei Wu ask so urgently, he felt his nose sting and his eyes ache. But he quickly lowered his eyes and stammered, "It's nothing, I just coughed a bit too hard and was a little short of breath."
Pei Wu remained silent for a while, staring intently at Shen Yu Nan. Then she took Shen Yu Nan's hand and led him into the room. She then closed the door.
Shen Yu'nan sat on the edge of the bed without speaking. His mind was in turmoil. Pei Wu's current actions made his heart pound wildly. Even though he tried his best to control himself, he still couldn't stop his trembling fingertips.
Seeing his trembling shoulders, Pei Wu felt a pang of heartache. She slowly stepped forward, knelt down in front of Shen Yu Nan, and asked, "Has something happened to your family?"
After much thought, Pei Wu concluded that the only thing that could make Shen Yu Nan lose his composure was the mess in his family. She had also witnessed his difficult parents firsthand.
Upon hearing this, Shen Yu'nan's eyelids twitched even more, and he pursed his lips without saying a word.
"We're husband and wife, we should be honest with each other. Have you forgotten everything I told you before? If there's anything, just tell me, and I'll stand up for you and solve it for you. Can you please take care of your health and stop making me worry so much?"
As Shen Yu Nan felt Pei Wu's hand stroking his cheek, he was stunned for a long time. He felt his eyes sting, and tears of grievance welled up in his beautiful eyes. He tried his best to hold them back, but his eyes turned red from holding them in.
He finally nodded.
Pei Wu finally breathed a sigh of relief. "Don't worry, your family's matter is a small one. The evidence I had back then is still useful. For your sister's sake, they can't cause any trouble. I have a way to deal with them. So, what is it? Do you need money, or has your wretched sister caused trouble again?"
"A-Wu..."
Shen Yu Nan reached out and touched Pei Wu's hand that was stroking his face. He had always faced these storms on his own, and no one had ever truly shared his burdens. He had longed for his parents' love and worked hard to please them, but he had never received what he wanted.
All they were thinking about was that if they couldn't get away with being manipulated by the Pei family again, they would have to sell their son for a quick buck before leaving.
Shen Yu'nan's nose stung even more, but he shook his head.
Pei Wu reached out and touched Shen Yu Nan's eyelids. "If you feel wronged, just cry. You don't need to pretend to be strong in front of me. You know that even if you don't say anything, I can find out if I want to. You're mine now, and I can't bear to see you suffer."
"Cough cough..." Shen Yunan was panting heavily, and his skin turned slightly red as he unconsciously furrowed his brows while coughing.
Feeling Pei Wu gently patting his back, Shen Yu Nan finally pursed his lips before speaking, "He...they...they actually..." Shen Yu Nan turned his head away from Pei Wu, concealing the ruthlessness in his eyes, only revealing his beautiful neck to her, "...give me up to someone else, and even accepted their betrothal gifts. That family has now found my old place..."
"..." Pei Wu was silent for a while after hearing Shen Yu Nan's words. She didn't know what to say for a moment, so she just stood up and hugged Shen Yu Nan.
Listening to Pei Wu's thumping heartbeat, Shen Yu Nan felt a sense of relief after she finished speaking.

The sudden knocking on the door snapped the two of them out of their reverie.

The person knocking on the door was Pei Nian in the outer hall.
Once she came to her senses, Pei Wu patted Chen Yunan's head and said, "It's nothing serious, I'll handle it. We came out today to have fun with the kids, don't think about it too much."
After speaking, Pei Wu went to open the door.
"Mom, Jiang Yue's parents are here."

In the time it took for the two to exchange a few words, Shen Yu Nan composed himself and came out of the house. His footsteps were very light.
