Chapter 15 An Eye-Opening Experience: Two of the Most Handsome Young Men Served Each Table
The wind blew faster and stronger, and Gu Shanyue's hair flew around like clouds. By the time they arrived at the opera house, her black hair was slightly disheveled and completely dry.
Gu Shanyue didn't care. After listening on the wall for a while, he casually chose the roof of a small building and lay down there.
Qi Baitong followed closely behind. Before Gu Shanyue lay down, he quickly took off his outer clothes, shook them, and spread them out on the ground.
Gu Shanyue glanced sideways and noticed his movements; by then, the person was already lying on his clothes.
Why did you take your clothes off?
Qi Baitong's action was completely subconscious. Faced with Gu Shanyue's confusion, he immediately explained, "The ground is dirty, so I'm using my clothes to cover it up."
Gu Shanyue: "Oh."
After a moment of silence, Qi Baitong continued, "Although no one has walked on the roof, there is dust and bird droppings."
Gu Shanyue suddenly realized: "That makes sense."
She touched her freshly washed hair, which still smelled of hibiscus leaves.
Gu Shanyue, still shaken, said, "You were very thoughtful."
As for whether she ever got feces on herself when she lay down anywhere in the past, Gu Shanyue decided not to think about it.
She pulled open the white lacquer tung coat a little, patted it, and called out to him, "Come on in too."
Qi Baitong glanced at Gu Shanyue, then obediently went over and lay down next to her.
As soon as she lay down, Gu Shanyue's stomach growled. She rubbed her stomach and said, "I'm hungry."
Qi Baitong immediately stood up: "What do you want to eat? I'll go buy it."
"Whatever." Gu Shanyue always said that.
My senior sister used to say that she was hard to please and that she was willing to do anything, but actually she didn't care about anything. It was harder than climbing to heaven to win her favor.
But in reality, she could live a very carefree life.
Just like after her senior sister left, she lived a chaotic life on her own. No one asked her what she ate, drank, or slept well anymore, and no one would insist on giving her something she liked, despite her casual expression.
How you live is how you live, and it doesn't matter how you live.
Qi Baitong thought for a moment: "You ate quite a bit of the sweet porridge, side dishes, soup noodles, and warm milk from last time. Shall I go and buy some more?"
Gu Shanyue's eyes flickered as she recalled the sweet breakfast she had when she woke up the last time she had drunk herself out of the city.
"OK."
Qi Baitong took a few steps, then turned back and said, "I'll be back soon."
"knew."
Qi Baitong wanted to say something, but Gu Shanyue waved his hand and said, "Alright, go and come back quickly." Only then did he leave.
That reluctance was like that of a bird leaving its nest, unwilling to part with its baby birds, which made Gu Shanyue laugh.
I don't know what he's worried about. Even if something unexpected happens, he'll still need her help.
Gu Shanyue thought to himself with self-satisfaction.
Once Qi Baitong left, the rooftop fell silent, with only the sound of the wind echoing in the air. Gu Shanyue raised her hand to gather her long hair, which was flying wildly in the wind, and casually tied it up with a hairband.
If others were to see this, they would surely say it's inappropriate, but Gu Shanyue always acts according to his own will, regardless of what others think.
After tying her hair up, Gu Shanyue's ears twitched as she looked down at the bricks and tiles at her feet.
She had specifically chosen the small building with the most beautiful singing voice, but as soon as she finished singing, the female lead below stopped singing.
Not only did they stop singing, but judging from the noise, it sounded like someone was causing trouble.
Gu Shanyue listened for a while, but was annoyed by the crying and howling below.
What a lovely, crisp autumn morning! Why did someone have to come and get in my way?
With a push of his toes, Gu Shanyue nimbly turned and changed direction, flying diagonally downwards like a falcon, and plunged into the room through the window.
The sound of a broken window startled everyone inside, who shouted.
Ignoring the group of frightened servants running around, Gu Shanyue kicked over the messy bed.
"Oh!"
A woman cried out in pain, and a beautifully dressed girl adorned with jewels rolled out, landing right at Gu Shanyue's feet.
"Who dares to mess with me, you big shot...?"
She had only said this much when she looked up and saw Gu Shanyue's pale profile, his clear black and white eyes staring at her quietly, his sword, Wugou, still drawn.
The girl screamed in terror, clutched her neck, and kicked and thrashed back as if she had seen a ghost.
From the bed with its layers of gauze curtains, a young man with half of his face in theatrical makeup crawled out. He had a handsome and refined face, and when he raised his small face, he had a pair of bright and affectionate eyes.
Gu Shanyue's eyes swept over the stage makeup, and she asked, "Was that the play you were performing just now?"
The young man, his limbs giving way, collapsed to the ground and answered in a trembling voice, "Yes."
"You sang well," Gu Shanyue praised.
The windows were broken, the screen was smashed to pieces, countless things were scattered on the ground, and the bed was a ruin. The girl was being helped to her feet by a servant, while the young man sat there, his clothes disheveled, like a lost soul.
Everything was in complete chaos.
But Gu Shanyue, the intruder, didn't seem uncomfortable at all, chatting with the young man in a relaxed and natural manner.
To outsiders, this demeanor would naturally appear as utter arrogance.
The girl, carefully protected by her servants, seemed to have recovered considerably from her earlier fright. She spoke up with dissatisfaction, "Gu Shanyue, why are you meddling in my business?"
Gu Shanyue's brow twitched, and she turned to look at the girl: "You know me?"
"I...you don't recognize me?"
The girl jumped up in anger, wanting to come out and argue with her, but was firmly stopped by the servants.
"Your Highness, please calm down! That is Gu Shanyue!"
Everyone knows how fast her Immaculate Sword is; so fast that before anyone can even see when it's drawn, their head has already fallen to the ground.
"Your Highness... are you Li Yaoguang?"
Upon hearing this title, Gu Shanyue finally remembered the little girl who had cried bitterly for her senior sister in the Jiaofang Palace.
Li Yaoguang's mother was of low status and died young. She was also timid and had a difficult time in the palace. After her senior sister found out, she brought her to the Jiaofang Palace and took good care of her.
Judging from her arrogant behavior of forcibly taking men from the common people, she must be doing quite well after her senior sister passed away.
The servants were still trying to stop him, but Li Yaoguang struggled to push them aside, ran up to Gu Shanyue, and excitedly asked her.
"You remember me?"
Gu Shanyue was tall and slender, so Li Yaoguang had to look up at her.
"I remember now."
Gu Shanyue looked her up and down, and Li Yaoguang subconsciously puffed out her chest, her little face serious.
Gu Shanyue commented, "You're just as short as you were back then."
Li Yaoguang: "..."
"What the hell! You're so rude!" Li Yaoguang glared at her.
Gu Shanyue suddenly laughed, and Li Yaoguang asked suspiciously, "What are you laughing at?"
"You ran away from me just now, using both your hands and feet. How come you've become bolder now?" Gu Shanyue teased with a half-smile.
"I am……"
Li Yaoguang blushed as she recalled her humiliating behavior earlier.
She had witnessed it firsthand when she was young: Gu Shanyue, carrying a long sword stained with blood, killed one person with each step.
It would be a lie to say she didn't have nightmares; it was the first time in her life she had seen so much blood, killing people more easily than chopping melons or vegetables.
Even though she felt a sense of closeness, seeing Gu Shanyue again, expressionless and sword in hand, made her feel as if she were instantly transported back to the scene of her childhood nightmare, and she couldn't suppress her fear.
When she came to her senses, she was naturally both ashamed and embarrassed.
"Why are you staring at me like that? It's kind of scary."
"I never expected you'd learned to do this kind of thing so well?" Gu Shanyue raised his chin at the young man huddled in the corner.
Li Yaoguang chuckled and scratched his face, saying, "He's good-looking, isn't he? I haven't even done anything to him yet, but he screamed so pitifully that it startled me too."
Gu Shanyue smirked: "You make it sound so nice."
“I am a princess of the current dynasty. Why should I condescend to come to this theater and ask him to keep me company?” Li Yaoguang said confidently. Seeing Gu Shanyue’s indifferent expression, she changed the subject, “But if you like him, I won’t fight you for him. There are plenty of men out there. I can find another one.”
His words had a somewhat conciliatory tone.
Gu Shanyue was surprised.
She and Li Yaoguang didn't have much of a past relationship. Back when her senior sister entered the palace, Gu Shanyue didn't like the palace at all, and she disliked the emperor who took her senior sister away. Therefore, she was unwilling to come to the palace most of the time, and it was usually her senior sister who came back to Zhuoguang Mountain to see her.
Even when she occasionally stayed at the palace, Li Yaoguang was thin and short at that time, and always hid behind a pillar to peek at her, so the two didn't have much interaction.
But now Li Yaoguang treats her with unexpected intimacy.
“Then stay away from him,” Gu Shanyue said, too lazy to think further, pointing at the bewildered young man and deciding his fate directly. “He sings well, don’t ruin his life.”
“Alright!” Li Yaoguang waved his hand, agreeing with a sense of loyalty, “You can keep it if you like.”
These words sounded strange. Gu Shanyue nodded, not wanting to say more, and turned to leave.
Li Yaoguang tugged at her sleeve, and Gu Shanyue stopped in her tracks, turning back to ask in a questioning tone, "Hmm?"
"Where are you going?" Li Yaoguang asked hesitantly.
"I don't know, I'll go wherever I want," Gu Shanyue replied casually.
The young man was terrified and probably wouldn't be able to perform for a while, so Gu Shanyue naturally needed to find another place to stay, but she hadn't decided where to go yet.
"Don't you like listening to him sing opera? Shall we listen to opera here?"
Li Yaoguang held onto her sleeve tightly, refusing to let go. Gu Shanyue glanced at the sleeve, then at her big, round eyes.
The girl has changed a lot, but her big eyes are still exactly the same as when she was a child.
At that time, Gu Shanyue asked her senior sister why she brought Li Yaoguang back. Her senior sister said that the little girl was so thin, with big eyes, and looked at people timidly, so she couldn't bear to see her like that.
My senior sister is always so soft-hearted.
"good."
Gu Shanyue agreed.
There are very few things left behind by my senior sister in this world, and Gu Shanyue never hesitates to spend her time on such things.
Li Yaoguang jumped up and down happily, trying to pull Gu Shanyue to sit down, but the room was still a mess.
Li Yaoguang put his hands on his hips and, facing the servants, changed his expression from one of affection towards Gu Shanyue to one of fierceness, saying, "Can't you see I'm entertaining distinguished guests? Hurry up and tidy up!"
The group quickly got to work, and in the blink of an eye, the room had become a quiet and elegant place again. The young man also stepped down to redo his makeup.
Incense wafted in the air, and the pearl curtains rustled softly as handsome young men filed in, each carrying a plate of delicacies in a unique manner. After serving the dishes, they did not leave, leaving two of the most handsome young men at each table to serve food and wine to Gu Shanyue and Li Yaoguang.
The boy, dressed in green with slender, white fingers, picked up a piece of snow-white fish with his chopsticks and brought it to the mouth of Gushan Yue.
Gu Shanyue blinked and happily ate it.
I never knew there were places like this. It's truly an eye-opener.
