Chapter Ninety-Six: Never Apart
Meng Fanxi did not answer Xiao Shuai's question directly; instead, he used a roundabout approach: "Anyway, we're still together now."
Xiao Shuai understood the answer and let out a long howl. The sound was filled with complex and sorrowful emotions, which amazed Meng Fanxi. He felt very warm, but he also tried his best to suppress his amused expression.
The younger children next to him didn't understand what he meant, but they also had a bad feeling. Their faces scrunched up: "I don't want you to be separated either!!"
The other children were caught up in the moment, eagerly chiming in, as if afraid of being left behind: "Me too! Me too!"
It felt like a room full of fans.
Fu Hanfei quipped, "You guys are really popular with elementary school students."
Meng Fanxi: "I can't bear to let everyone continue watching."
Gu Huailang propped his head up: "You won't turn from a fan to a hater after seeing our choice, will you?"
Children are easily attracted to novel content, and when a nice song plays on the screen, everyone focuses intently on the screen.
"This song is so good!"
"I like this fast pace."
"I want this one!"
"It's not like you're the one choosing."
"I really want to know which song the brothers will choose!"
When the song "Wings" was played, a scene was shown where Lu Ning and Zhong Chu discussed the song. It was at this moment that Meng Fanxi realized that the two of them actually liked the song very much, but they couldn't make a choice because of the ranking.
Fortunately, after many twists and turns, we still managed to perform this song.
Meng Fanxi didn't expect that the production team filmed in such detail, capturing their interactions before choosing songs and showing almost all of their team's song discussions without any cuts. The children watched it with great interest.
He was looking at the six of them from God's perspective, which was another kind of strange feeling.
In his past life, he wouldn't watch movies, TV series, or variety shows that he had acted in. He always felt awkward and embarrassed when watching them, so he would always watch other people's works.
The protagonists of those works are now sitting beside him, on the screen he is watching.
He didn't have time to reflect for long before his attention was drawn to the next scene.
It was when he noticed that Gu Huailang was acting strangely and asked him why he was behaving so oddly.
Now he understands. From this perspective, Gu Huailang was clearly determined to choose "Wings." How come he didn't see it back then?
He asked directly, "Look at your expression, how could I have believed you?" He couldn't help but laugh as he spoke, "You said you didn't sleep well?"
Gu Huailang pretended not to hear, his eyes darting around; such a guilty expression was rarely seen on his face.
Meng Fanxi continued, "I wouldn't stop you if you just said you wanted to choose this song."
Gu Huailang then replied, "You won't, but they will." His eyes were full of distrust towards the other four.
Meng Fanxi looked at Gu Huailang with an expression that said, "Are you kidding me?" Then she looked at Lin Ruo and the others, but they didn't say anything, seemingly agreeing with Gu Huailang's statement.
Lin Ruohe frankly said, "Actually, I supported you in choosing 'Wings' because I saw that you were very determined to go out and experience yourself. If I had known in advance that Huailang would also choose that song, I might have changed my mind and chosen that song as well."
Xu You, Ren Yuchen, and Zhang Yang nodded in agreement.
Such a psychological process? This was something Meng Fanxi hadn't expected, and a warm feeling washed over him.
Soon, the show moved to the part where everyone went on stage to choose their songs. The post-production team did a great job editing; the trainees didn't spend much time hesitating on stage during the live recording, but in the final cut, it looked tedious and time-consuming.
The song selection process, from Lin Ruohe to Zhang Yang, created a lot of suspense. After the two of them chose the same song, not only were the other trainees on the show certain that the six of them would be in the same group, but the elementary school students in the classroom also cheered with satisfaction.
Only Xiao Shuai wants to be happy, but he's also afraid of being disappointed later.
Meng Fanxi noticed the colorful expressions on Xiao Shuai's profile and thought he was so cute.
The turning point of the story begins with Xu You, who is the focus of the camera.
Xu You reacted strongly: "Why did you give me such a close-up! You can see all those little pimples so clearly, help!"
Meng Fanxi laughed so hard she almost fell over, not because of the pimple, but because Xu You looked very serious in the shot, with the caption: "Making a decision carefully."
Only a few close friends and acquaintances like Meng Fanxi knew that this was his impatient manner, a desire to finish the selection quickly.
When Xu You walked past the sign for Lin Ruo and Zhang Yang's team, the children became excited.
"Why!!"
No!
"Where is Brother Xu You going?"
"My six stars!!"
...
Xu You: "Why do I feel a little guilty?"
The next scene was about to begin, and Ren Yuchen, who had also chosen another song, comforted her, saying, "It's good that you're there to support me, otherwise I would feel very guilty. You've done a good thing."
Xu You: Get lost.
When Hsu Yu stood behind the "Walker" sign, a cute little girl with two braids asked him a thought-provoking question: "Can Hsu Yu sing 'Rua Pu' clearly?"
In the eyes of these children, "rua puff" is a very difficult performance.
Meng Fanxi's smile never stopped. He teased Xu You, "Do you feel like you sang it right, Brother You?"
Ren Yuchen said quietly, "Even if you don't understand how to sing, you still have to sing."
Hsu Yu: These two seem to be acting crazy today, like they're tearing down roofs and tiles.
When Ren Yuchen walked to the sign for "A Song That Must Be Sung Even If It's Late," the children did not respond well and remained emotional.
"Oh? Brother Yu Chen went to another team too?"
"I don't want to watch anymore, sob sob, why isn't my favorite team together?"
"They have three teams now, it's so frustrating."
...
"Brother Yu Chen didn't go to find Brother Xu You because he couldn't understand the 'rua puma' song."
Upon hearing the child's last sentence, Xu You immediately burst into laughter and responded to the child, "Yeah, yeah, Ren Yuchen can't sing 'rua pfft'."
The smugness in his tone suggested that he had already gained the upper hand in the verbal victory.
Ren Yuchen: Naïve.
When it came to Meng Fanxi's turn, he became anxious. The children were in low spirits, and he could tell that these elementary school students really liked the way the six of them were together.
However, the camera didn't directly show Meng Fanxi making his choice. Instead, it cut to a scene of their conversation on their way to the song selection venue. At that time, they didn't have any recording equipment on them, so the sound was very low. The production team only selected a few clips.
"This time I want to take on the challenge of a dance assessment."
"Remember what I said before? I want to be number one, and you guys have to be too. This individual competition is a rare opportunity, so we have to seize it, even if we might not be in the same song."
...
"Fancy is so handsome!" Xiao Shuai's voice rang out loudly.
Meng Fanxi was unexpectedly a little shy upon hearing the praise.
At this point, the scene shifts to him resolutely walking towards the "Wings" sign. In the early stages, the production team had already created the impression that "Wings" was very difficult and challenging through the reactions of the mentors and trainees.
When Meng Fanxi chose this song, everyone in the classroom exclaimed "Wow!" in unison.
"Brother Fanxi is so brave!"
"This song is very difficult to dance, but I want to try it too."
"Keep it up!"
...
Having endured so much, Xu You said, "No, why is it your turn to cheer up?"
Meng Fanxi loved to tease Xu You. He patted Xu You on the shoulder and sighed softly like someone who had been through it all: "You still have a long way to go."
He was delighted to receive a glare from Xu You.
While enjoying himself, Meng Fanxi couldn't help but scrutinize the editing style of the program. The editing felt very biased towards him, and it even seemed as if they had cut out his storyline. He was genuinely flattered.
He was treated quite well on the show?
The scene of Gu Huailang walking towards "Wings" actually relieved the elementary school students.
"That's great, only four teams, I can accept that."
"We can't split up anymore, let's leave it at that."
"Brother Yu Chen and Brother Xu You are so lonely. There are no teammates like Xingxing in the team."
Xu You and Ren Yuchen did not deny that it was indeed very difficult to practice without familiar teammates by their side, and they absolutely did not want to have a similar experience again.
After the team leaders were determined, the selection process for each group was edited to be very interesting, especially the part where Meng Fanxi selected Fan Na, which created a small climax.
Zhang Yang had always had a question, and he took this opportunity to ask, "Did you already decide to choose him in advance?"
The other four people's eyes turned to them.
Meng Fanxi shook his head, "It was a spur-of-the-moment decision, but we had agreed to a duel beforehand, and after thinking about it, it would be more fun to be in the same group."
Zhang Yang: "At the time, I was genuinely a little worried about the situation within your group amidst their jeering."
Meng Fanxi: "I didn't expect it to be your group..."
Lin Ruohe looked at Zhang Yang with a wry smile, "So intuition is accurate, it just applied to the wrong person."
Then, a segment was shown showing the teams changing dormitories and practicing.
Meng Fanxi could clearly feel the temperature in the classroom dropping continuously until he saw the six of them move back to their neighbors on the same floor, at which point the temperature began to rise again.
Each group's initial practice was not very smooth, and they all had their own difficulties at the start. The program also came to an abrupt end before Lin Ruo and that group had a conflict, leaving the suspense for the next episode.
The nearly two-hour program was packed with content, so much so that it was dazzling and made me lose track of time, wondering how it had ended so quickly.
After escorting the children back to their respective dormitories, Meng Fanxi and the others returned to their own dormitories.
After tidying up, everyone lay down on their beds. The lights were off, and they didn't draw the curtains. The moonlight from outside the window shone softly into the room. Everyone was tired, but no one was sleepy.
Meng Fanxi lay on his back with his arm as a pillow: "For me, going out alone in a team is something I only need to experience once. I don't need to go through it a second time."
Looking back at the scene of the second public song selection today, his gaze always fell on them. He realized that even though everyone was standing behind different signs, they were always paying attention to each other's movements. So he was able to quickly judge whether the members of his teammates' groups were easy to get along with.
The others echoed, "Me too."
Zhang Yang, who is usually not very talkative, had a lot to say today. "Do you know what Xiao Shuai said when I held my hand and said goodbye to him?"
"What?"
He said, "Can we not separate next time?"
Meng Fanxi sighed softly, a gentle smile appearing on her face: "Definitely."
The next morning, before I could even go and guide the dance troupe in preparing for the finals, the program team came knocking on my door.
They need to decide on the performance songs for the third public performance before noon, as there are copyright issues involved, and the production team needs more time to prepare.
It was only then that they realized that they had talked to Fu Hanfei about everything under the sun, but they hadn't discussed which song to choose.
