Chapter Seven: Transferring Schools
The transfer procedures were completed quickly.
Meng Fanxi didn't even have time to say goodbye to his classmates who were in class, but he still breathed a sigh of relief. He didn't know how to face these partners who had practiced side by side with him.
The process of terminating the contract with Baihe Company went smoothly. After all, the one-year contract was about to expire, and during this period, many trainees would choose not to renew their contracts, and leaving early was a common occurrence.
The only thing that embarrassed Meng Fanxi was facing "Brother Li"—Li Yingqiu—who helped him with the paperwork.
Li Yingqiu was once a trainee at Baihe Company. After failing to debut, she became one of the trainee managers behind the scenes at the company.
For Meng Fanxi, whether he was young or after his debut, Brother Li had always lent him a helping hand. He could feel that Brother Li still valued him to some extent, and his decision to switch to a rival company would inevitably disappoint Brother Li.
The man in front of him, Brother Li, was thin and looked nothing like the seasoned and mature man he would become more than a decade later. He looked clearly surprised when he saw that Meng Fanxi was not renewing his contract.
He hesitated for a moment, then took Meng Fanxi and her father, who was accompanying them, to the dormitory, packed their luggage, put it in the car, and then took Meng Fanxi to the office building to sign documents.
Meng's father seemed to sense something and made an excuse to go to the bathroom.
Brother Li looked Meng Fanxi over a few more times. Although he seemed natural and showed no sign of reluctance, he still asked the question he had been wondering: "Why did you choose not to renew your contract? You've already been assigned to Team W1. You should be able to tell that the company values you, right? Your chances of debuting are very high. Did you encounter any difficulties?"
Meng Fanxi smiled bitterly to himself. He was grateful for Brother Li's concern, but he certainly couldn't tell him the shocking fact that he had been reborn.
After hesitating for a moment, he finally revealed his plans: "Brother Li, thank you for taking care of me during this time. I recently passed the interview with Will Company, so I plan to go there to become a trainee."
Anyway, even if I don't say it now, I'll still be seen if I debut in the future, so I might as well be honest and say it.
As soon as Brother Li heard "Weir Company," he understood.
Even if he had two choices, he would choose Will.
The boy in front of him had always practiced diligently and never fooled around during breaks. He often saw the boy practicing alone until late at night, so when he learned that the boy had a better opportunity, he was happy for him and subconsciously ignored the fact that Will had been interviewing recently.
Brother Li earnestly shared some of his experience with Meng Fanxi.
Seeing that Brother Li wasn't angry, but instead encouraged him to try to debut, Meng Fanxi felt a warmth in his heart, and his gratitude towards Brother Li deepened.
Back at the Will Company, it was already afternoon. Meng Fanxi didn't bother Wei Ye, but instead completed the remaining procedures familiarly, based on his previous memory.
Wells Company was indeed wealthier than Baihe Company.
The dormitories are all double rooms. Although Baihe Company also has double rooms, they are only for trainees with more seniority. In his previous life, he always lived in a four-person dormitory. After he failed to debut as a group, he stopped living at the company.
Meng's father and Meng Fanxi were led by the dormitory manager to the rightmost room at the far end of the corridor on the second floor. The room number was 206. Because it was during class time, the corridor was quiet.
The administrator had other things to do, so he quickly gave a few words of introduction, led the person there, handed over the keys, and left.
Upon entering the dormitory, the two were struck by its cleanliness and tidiness. The dormitory was small but fully equipped, with a private bathroom and an open-air balcony at the end.
Inside the room, two beds are placed against their respective walls on the left and right sides, with wardrobes and desks also corresponding to each other on both sides.
Opening the balcony door, a gust of wind rushed in. The ginkgo tree downstairs kept growing upwards, almost completely blocking the view from the second floor, and a thin layer of yellowing autumn leaves had accumulated on the balcony.
Meng Fanxi recalled what the administrator had said: his roommate was a junior high school student who studied in Yeyang District and only came to practice on Saturdays and Sundays. No wonder the fallen leaves were left unswept.
He was somewhat curious about this junior high student. Wei had previously told him that while Will Company did not restrict the age when recruiting trainees, most of them were either about to enter high school or were high school students, with fewer junior high students because they were difficult to manage.
Those who are selected in junior high school must have great potential.
The left side was clearly the territory of that ninth grader. A few books were neatly stacked on the desk, and the quilt was folded with sharp corners, showing that he was a clean boy.
Meng Fanxi nodded secretly, feeling a bit more favorably disposed towards this roommate.
After tidying up the room with Meng Fanxi, Meng's father, seeing that it was still early, took him to the high school he would be attending.
Meng Fanxi is transferring to Xinghe High School. Weier Company has been cooperating with Xinghe High School for many years, so the transfer procedures will proceed smoothly.
At the entrance of Xinghe High School stood a burly man who looked to be around thirty years old. He must have come to greet the new students. When Meng's father saw the man, he exchanged a few words with him, patted Meng Fanxi on the shoulder, offered some encouragement, handed his son over to the man, and turned to leave.
Looking at his father's retreating figure, Meng Fanxi resolved to seize the opportunity and make a name for himself.
The person in front of me is Bai Qian, a math teacher and the homeroom teacher of Starlight Class 2.
Bai Qian led Meng Fanxi toward the teaching building, giving a brief introduction to the school while observing the boy in front of him discreetly. Even though he had seen so many outstanding-looking people in the Starlight Class, he was still amazed by Meng Fanxi's unique and clear temperament at first glance.
Meng Fanxi had heard of Xinghe High School in his previous life. As a long-established high school in the capital, it had a long history and countless academic geniuses. Looking at the buildings that exuded a profound cultural heritage, he was full of expectations for his new life.
According to Bai Qian, Xinghe High School has 20 classes per grade, including two "Star Classes". A regular class has 40-50 students, while the two "Star Classes" have 20-30 students each. This is fewer than the "Star Classes" at other schools.
Because the Starlight Class at Xinghe High School is full of trainees from Weir Company.
After all, only Will Company could afford to buy land near a key middle school. Other companies, even if they had the money, wouldn't even consider it; they would just think it was unnecessary.
Because they were all trainees under their company, Will Company strengthened its control over the trainees at the school, dividing the Star Class into male and female classes.
Class 1 is for female trainees, and Class 2 is for male trainees.
Meng Fanxi could understand this approach. Trainees are naturally precocious, and he had seen many practice room romances, but they almost all ended in failure.
Most of the teaching buildings at Xinghe High School are four stories high. Bai Qian led him for quite a while before they arrived at a teaching building called Duxue Building. They then climbed to the top floor, and Meng Fanxi was already panting heavily.
Bai Qian, however, showed no sign of anything amiss. He smiled and said to Meng Fanxi, "Young man, you still need to practice more."
"..."
Bai Qian led Meng Fanxi into the classroom during the break. The boys who were chatting and making noise in the hallway saw a new face enter the classroom and obediently returned to their seats before the teacher could even speak.
Bai Qian wrote Meng Fanxi's name on the blackboard, cleared his throat, and said, "This is Meng Fanxi, the new transfer student. From now on, he will be your classmate and trainee partner. Everyone, please welcome Meng."
The audience erupted in enthusiastic applause, but there were also huddled together whispering amongst themselves.
"Has the company not hired anyone recently? Why are there new people?"
"She's quite good-looking."
"Could it be someone with connections?"
"Keep your voice down, there's one student in the class who got in through connections!"
"Maybe she was scouted by the company."
...
Meng Fanxi naturally heard everything clearly, but he remained outwardly calm.
Wei also asked him to keep his special interview a secret and discussed a new explanation. After all, the company has its own rules and regulations, and Meng Fanxi's experience can only be an isolated case, not a general one.
After the applause subsided, Meng Fanxi naturally began to introduce himself: "Hello everyone, I am Meng Fanxi. I passed the interview with Weir Company a year ago, but due to various reasons, I am only reporting for duty now. Please take care of me in the future."
Meng Fanxi's answer immediately dispelled some people's speculations that he was a crony, and the discussions gradually subsided.
Because the break between classes was short, Bai Qian didn't introduce the class committee members one by one. After arranging Meng Fanxi's seat, the bell rang for class.
He was assigned to an empty seat next to a cute-looking boy.
The boy was very friendly. When Meng Fanxi sat down next to him, he immediately came over and said, "Hello, deskmate, my name is Qi Xiaohan." He even took out two candies wrapped in beautifully colored gradient packaging from a small compartment in his backpack and handed them to him, saying, "They're delicious, have a taste."
Meng Fanxi was naturally touched by his deskmate's friendliness. He thanked her and accepted the candy, but paused when he heard the name: Qi Xiaohan.
The name sounded so familiar. After looking at the other person's face more closely, I finally vaguely recognized them.
However, Meng Fanxi didn't show it, but instead handed a piece of chocolate to his deskmate as a gesture of goodwill.
The last class was Chinese. After the Chinese teacher finished the lesson, there was still some time left, so she sat on the podium and watched everyone study on their own.
Meng Fanxi had already received special permission from his homeroom teacher, Bai Qian, to familiarize himself with the class today and deal with homework tomorrow. So, he idly flipped through his textbooks, and as he looked at them, his thoughts drifted to his deskmate next to him who was diligently doing his homework.
Qi Xiaohan is one of the members of VIER. To be precise, she is one of the two members of VIER with the lowest popularity. The other one is Xu Weiguang.
In his past life, Meng Fanxi remembered Qi Xiaohan as always standing on the sidelines or in a corner of VIER, feeling inferior and unable to speak, which was completely opposite to her current self. Therefore, he did not recognize Qi Xiaohan at first glance.
It turns out he used to be such a cheerful person.
Later, as I recall, VIER added two more ruthless members, making it a seven-member group. From then on, there was constant infighting among the five popular members and their fans, while Qi Xiaohan and Xu Weiguang became even less noticeable. Eventually, the group disbanded.
Meng Fanxi didn't pay any more attention to it.
In the classroom, Meng Fanxi was seated near the front. He didn't dare to look around, but he felt that he could see the future actor and popular singer with just a casual glance.
The presence of Qi Xiaohan next to him reminded him that there might be other future VIER members in this class. Thinking of this, he couldn't help but shudder.
In his past life, VIER was someone he looked up to.
VIER went from debut to instant fame in just one year, even with virtually no group cohesion.
Meng Fanxi remembers that at the time, the entire Baihe Company was on high alert. Every stage performance, every variety show, and even the individual fancams of popular members of VIER were taken out and studied by the company.
He watched it countless times and realized that there was a huge difference between him and them. If he were in VIER, he would probably be the next Qi Xiaohan.
After much thought, Meng Fanxi made up his mind that as long as he followed the natural course, stayed true to himself, and didn't make any rash moves, it was impossible for a newcomer like him, who had just joined the company, to be added to VIER, who were set to debut next year.
Once VIER debuts, the other boy groups in the company that are about to debut will stop causing trouble, and they will develop well and have a long lifespan, not disbanding before his rebirth.
With careful planning, he might be able to add himself to the team. Of course, he absolutely cannot do what Jin Ziran did in his previous life—to squeeze out others.
He wanted a long-lasting group, a warm harbor.
However, looking at the candy in his hand and thinking about Qi Xiaohan's future, he felt a deep sense of powerlessness.
