Chapter Thirty-Four: Rejection

Chapter Thirty-Four: Rejection

After dinner, Wei had already informed the coaches in each practice room that the six of them did not need to go to the practice rooms.

The group of people arrived together at a conference room in the company.

It attracted a lot of attention along the way.

"The debut group should be on the agenda soon, right?" Lin Ruohe guessed.

"It should be." Meng Fanxi was faintly excited. He looked at everyone, hoping to find the same excitement on their faces.

However, geniuses often don't show their emotions.

Xu You, who is usually noisy and chatty in front of others, suddenly became aloof and strode confidently among them, his delicate baby face now exuding a cold and distant air.

Of the six people, only Meng Fanxi had a slight smile, like a gentle spring breeze. The rest all had indifferent expressions and exuded an aura of "keep away".

Those who don't know might mistake them for members of a debuted group, given their cool and aloof demeanor.

When they arrived at the conference room, Wei Ye was still not there.

Once the door closed, everyone tacitly sat down next to each other, their postures relaxed, and the atmosphere became comfortable.

"Are you excited?" Meng Fanxi blurted out out of the blue. He thought the group of people were managing their expressions too well; how could they be so calm?

“Of course,” Xu You looked at Meng Fanxi strangely, “Didn’t you notice that I specifically wore my lucky necklace for this?”

He raised an eyebrow and touched the necklace with his name and logo printed on it around his neck.

Meng Fanxi smiled, still as narcissistic as ever, thankfully.

Lin Ruohe sat in the starting position, propping his chin up with one hand, and looked at Meng Fanxi with a smile: "And you? Are you happy?"

Meng Fan, dressed in a suit, pondered for a moment before replying with feigned composure, "It's alright." The upward curve of his lips couldn't hide his true feelings.

He now thinks this team is great no matter how he looks at it, especially after everyone practiced together. The efficiency and quality of their practice was something that even a debut team like W1 in his previous life couldn't match.

He was fascinated by the repetitive practice in order to achieve the best results, by the mutual support and communication during teamwork, and by the fact that everyone could still laugh and talk even when they were exhausted.

His desire to stand on the stage grew stronger, and the images of his debut kept flashing through his mind these past few days.

Even though he knew it was just a fantasy, he couldn't stop himself from hoping for it.

With these teammates by his side, his dream is by no means out of reach.

He was filled with anticipation for this unknown future.

Gu Huailang looked at Meng Fanxi's arrogant demeanor and smiled faintly.

Feeling that the timing was good, he revealed his plan: "Last time, Brother Zhang Yang said that he was going to apply to the Beijing Conservatory of Music in advance. I also plan to apply to Xinghe High School in advance so that it will be easier for us to practice together later."

Of the six, only his studies and practice time are slightly behind, and he needs to find a way to close the gap with everyone else.

Meng Fanxi asked worriedly, "Are you sure you can do it?"

He had only recently transferred from his original junior high school to Xinghe No. 2 Middle School, and applying to Xinghe High School in advance would not be an easy process.

Gu Huailang had assessed his own abilities. Although he wasn't 100% sure, he was still very confident.

Upon seeing this, everyone offered their encouragement.

Zhang Yang leaned back lazily in his chair, like a cat that had just woken up, and casually looked at Gu Huailang: "I have a few sets of practice papers. I bought too many before. I'll send them over for you to do later."

Gu Huailang didn't stand on ceremony. He knew that Zhang Yang, a senior in high school, wouldn't have unintentionally bought extra junior high school exam papers, and a warm feeling welled up in his heart.

Ren Yuchen also said that he had several sets of test papers and brand-new exercises, and he would find them for him when he returned to his dormitory.

Gu Huailang: Too many test papers are also a burden...

Wei was late in arriving, and the group had already started brainstorming and arguing about a name for the group.

Lin Ruo and Mingming are both mature and steady people, but they took the lead in suggesting: "Our group must have a catchy name, such as 'Lightning Six Stars' or something, so that people can remember it at a glance."

He then looked at Meng Fanxi, trying to gain his approval: "Fanxi, your English name is Fancy, so you must also agree with my idea."

Meng Fanxi quickly shook his head and waved his hands, "No, no, no." He shook his head like a rattle drum, "Please forget my English name, it was just a joke."

Wei Ye once mentioned his English name in a casual conversation. At the time, he just thought it was a joke and laughed it off. Little did he know that Lin Ruohe remembered it so well.

Lin Ruohe still insisted: "'Lightning Six Stars' is a really good name. I want to suggest to Wei Ye that it be included in our group name options."

Zhang Yang crossed his arms, making no attempt to hide the disdain in his expression. "Too tacky."

Ren Yuchen looked at Lin Ruohe and calmly analyzed, "I tend to agree with Brother Zhang Yang. This name might not fit the group's image. Although I don't know the specifics of Brother Ye's side yet, it certainly won't be like this..."

He paused for two or three seconds, then found a relatively mild term: "technological."

Gu Huailang had a different approach: "Usually, there's a pattern to the group names that companies release. One group has a Chinese name, and the next one usually has an English name. Maybe when we debut, we'll have an English name too."

Xu You idly fiddled with his fingers, secretly pondering the group's ranking. Suddenly, he had a fun idea and excitedly suggested, "How about we play a big game? Everyone comes up with a name, then we play a game, and whoever wins gets to decide."

Upon hearing this, Meng Fanxi exclaimed, "Wow, these people have such wildly imaginative ideas for the group name!" He quickly replied, "The company will definitely come up with the group name. Look at the names of the groups that Will debuted with; none of them are bad. Just look forward to it!"

Lin Ruohe stopped joking and got serious: "Indeed, I'm really looking forward to our name."

Everyone nodded in agreement.

"Sorry I'm late."

Wei arrived late, still carrying the chill of his hasty arrival. He was dressed in formal attire and looked very formal.

Upon seeing him enter, everyone sat up straight. Although they were usually quite informal when they met, they all became slightly tense at this moment.

Wei also sat down opposite, carrying a laptop bag. Logically, he should have turned on his laptop, taken out the plan, and explained it to everyone carefully and systematically.

After all, only Lin Ruohe had seen the final draft of the group's proposal, and Zhang Yang knew some of the details.

The others who trusted Wei Ye didn't think of this and didn't press him to look at the plan.

Wei Ye did nothing at the moment. He put his things aside, crossed his arms on the table, and faced everyone. His expression was not good.

Meng Fanxi didn't know if others noticed, but he felt his heart racing and a bad premonition.

Instead of joking around as usual, everyone waited for Wei Ye to speak.

Wei took a deep breath, which also moved the teenagers present.

He adjusted his tie, feeling a tightness that made it hard to breathe.

Wei Ye scanned the teenagers present one by one, his eyes filled with complex emotions, making it impossible to discern his thoughts.

Even Xu You, who was in the most relaxed mood, sensed the unusual atmosphere and his heart began to pound.

"Everyone," Wei didn't know how to say it, but he tried his best to control his feelings of indignation, "our debut group may face some hardships."

Xu You immediately asked, "What do you mean?"

Wei also sorted out his thoughts and calmly explained: "The boy group proposal I submitted as the leader of the tenth planning group was successfully approved. That approval means the initial review went smoothly."

Meng Fanxi's heart skipped a beat. Did this mean the review was not going smoothly?

Wei then explained, "The initial proposal that Ruo and I had also reviewed did not include specific candidates. I recently submitted a second proposal, which confirmed the names of the members, namely you."

"At the second review meeting, I fully explained the group's concept and the rationale behind the member arrangement, but no conclusion was reached at that time."

The crowd grew increasingly tense, having roughly guessed what might happen.

"After that, I wanted to gather everyone together to give a complete introduction to each person's role, group positioning, debut plan, and so on in our project." He paused, his voice trembling slightly, "I didn't expect to receive a notification just now that the review failed."

The air seemed to freeze; no one spoke, or rather, no one knew what to say.

Wei Ye knew beforehand that his selected list of members would not be easily approved once it was submitted, since it was almost a group of S-level trainees.

The company has never done this before, and it is also customary not to do so.

He cleverly utilized the rules and revealed some information to relevant personnel before submitting the plan. During the on-site defense, he almost "debated with the crowd".

He thought the chances of passing would be higher.

Unexpectedly, almost the entire review panel voted against it.

Even Zhou Xingzhi voted against it.

"All veto votes?" Everyone was incredulous.

Before he came, he specifically sought out Zhou Xingzhi, who said that he was also powerless to help. Du Rong, the judge, had put in a lot of effort, and the list was indeed outrageous, including Lin Ruohe and Zhang Yang.

No one can imagine what the future holds for these people together.

The risk is too great.

Wei was mentally prepared for the possibility of failing the second review, but through his preliminary efforts, he believed that at least some people would vote in favor, which would allow him to submit his application for a third review.

Entering the third review stage, the scope of the review is broader and the acceptance is higher. It will not be controlled by a group of old scholars with fixed mindsets. He has enough confidence.

However, all rejections mean that they won't even make it to the third round.

"Is there any other way?" Lin Ruohe frowned, wondering whether he should ask Cui Du if he had any ideas, since he had once served as the head of the planning team.

Wei remained silent; this time, he had been too confident.

He found it difficult to face these outstanding teenagers who had placed their hopes on him.

"There must be another way, right?" Meng Fanxi's mood plummeted. Just a moment ago, everyone was happily planning for the future, how could there be such a big change in their mood all of a sudden?

Wei also breathed a sigh of relief and said, "Actually, there is another way."

"What is it?" Everyone's attention was focused, but judging from Wei Ye's expression, it wouldn't be a simple solution.

Wei Ye: "We will file an appeal and proceed to the final review meeting."

The difficulty lies in the fact that almost no one has ever succeeded in holding a final review discussion, and it has been dormant for a long time, with no one having started one for a long time.
