Chapter 10 The Neighbor is Dangerous

The fact that there was only one man already made it seem dangerous, but now with the addition of a wolf, Lin Yue felt that if a conflict broke out between them, or if the wolf was determined to take her away, even though she had practiced martial arts since childhood, she probably wouldn't have any chance of winning.

Sensing Lin Yue's intense gaze fixed on the wolf, the man patted the wolf's head, and the wolf immediately relaxed and leisurely walked into the house.

"Sorry, did I disturb you? My name is Cang Yu. I'll be staying here from today. Please take care of me from now on." Although Cang Yu was introducing himself, there was not a trace of a smile on his face.

Cang Yu bought this house a long time ago, but he hadn't had the chance to live in it all these years.

Now that the situation is different, there's nothing to worry about anymore, so he moved here. Although he doesn't know how long he'll stay, as long as there are no problems with the place, he definitely won't leave anytime soon.

"Lin Yue, please guide me in the future!" Lin Yue didn't say much more.

The key point is that, facing such an imposing man, she couldn't say anything polite, and besides, she didn't like being polite to people these days.

After greeting the person and learning that they were staying over, Lin Yue went home and locked the door.

Since they are not familiar with each other, there is no need for excessive small talk.

Lin Yue looked at her door, wondering if she should replace it with a sturdier one now; she had originally planned to do it that afternoon.

But then she thought about it and suddenly realized that it might not be necessary.

Putting aside the fact that she changed the door as soon as the man came in, she felt that even if she changed it, it wouldn't stop the man on the other side. Changing the door so hastily would definitely make the other side think that she was guarding against him.

Although she was indeed trying to protect herself from him, even though she knew she couldn't.

However, although her neighbor is in great danger, she will fight to the death if he tries to steal her supplies.

Since we're going to die anyway, we might as well take a piece of his flesh first.

After thinking it through, Lin Yue continued eating her steamed buns, but she lost interest in watching the show. She grabbed a fried dough stick and ate it slowly with soy milk.

After eating, I started exercising like crazy.

The heavy snow outside continued to fall, and the temperature continued to drop. By noon, the temperature had dropped to minus thirty degrees Celsius, which was unbearable for southerners who had never experienced such low temperatures. A new wave of complaints arose in the community's WeChat group.

Ironically, some people actually said that it was because of her that snow fell in June. The reason was even more ridiculous: they said that she killed her parents and was ruthless towards her relatives, so God was angry and wanted to punish them.

Lin Yue read a sentence or two, then lost interest.

Now everyone with eyes can see that the apocalypse has arrived. Although the authorities are trying their best to guide public opinion, they cannot explain why this has happened so suddenly, and can only keep emphasizing that it is due to cold air convection.

Even if it's a once-in-a-century cold front, it shouldn't be like this, and many people no longer believe this claim.

The person who mentioned this in the group was the old lady on the eighth floor of her building.

After turning off her phone, Lin Yue decided not to exercise anymore. Instead, she took out the ingredients and prepared to cook for herself.

The aroma of her cooking hasn't been as strong these past few days, so she plans to cook more and store it in the space. Her shelf for cooked food can still hold quite a few.

The kitchen at home is not big, and can only fit three gas stoves at a time. Lin Yue uses one pot to stew braised pork, another pot to cook porridge, and another pot to stir-fry vegetables. As soon as they are cooked, she packs them into boxes and puts them away.

Then they alternated between chicken, duck, and fish.

At three o'clock in the afternoon, Lin Yue had just put the stewed beef brisket into the pot and turned on the stove when she heard the sound of an electric drill outside. Because the sound was really loud, Lin Yue decided to take a look.

As soon as the door opened, Cang Yu's wolf looked over with a fierce gaze, as if it were ready to tear Lin Yue apart at any moment.

To be honest, Lin Yue was a little scared.

"Azure Wolf." Cang Yu called out once, and the wolf immediately lost its fierce expression, sitting there, practically wagging its tail.

Meanwhile, Cang Yu was installing an iron gate in the hallway. Not only that, but there was also a security door next to it, which seemed to be of much better quality than the ones she had bought.

Starting from the corner where they came up from this floor, the stair railings were welded with dense iron bars that reached directly to the floor slab, making it absolutely impossible to climb up the stairs from the side.

Cang Yu is currently installing the door frame, which appears to be made of steel plate and looks very sturdy.

Lin Yue glanced at the elevator lights...

"Installing a door at the stairwell is useless now; the elevator can still come up," Lin Yue reminded her.

This isn't a high-end residential area; you have to swipe a card to get to your floor, but once you're in the elevator, you can go to any floor.

"The power will go out soon, come and hold the door open for me," Cang Yu replied.

The conversation between the two was uneventful.

"I'll turn the heat down while the vegetables are cooking."

Lin Yue went back to the kitchen to change the stove to a lower setting, then came out to hold the door open, still wondering how he knew there would be a power outage.

However surprised Lin Yue was, the power went out as soon as they finished installing the two doors.

Half an hour later, the community's public address system, which is only used once a year, came on: "Due to continuous cold and heavy snow, the hardened power lines were damaged by the heavy snow, causing a city-wide power outage. Repairs are currently underway. Please do not panic."

The broadcast only said that repairs were underway, but did not say when they would be completed.

The community loudspeaker is solar-powered. It hasn't been used for a long time, and the battery still has power, which is normal. I just don't know how long it will last before it hardens from the cold and becomes unusable.

Lin Yue was even more surprised; how could Cang Yu have predicted it so accurately?

However, Lin Yue was not a talkative person and had no intention of digging deeper.

However, a city-wide power outage also means a power outage.

If it's just a partial power outage, we can still power the cell towers. But now the whole city... no, maybe more than that.

Sure enough, when I took out my phone, there was no signal.

On the second day of the apocalypse, there was no water or electricity; they really didn't leave anyone any preparation.

"key."

Cang Yu took out two keys and handed them to Lin Yue.

Lin Yue took the key without saying thank you, but looked at Cang Yu and said, "Could you please replace two doors for me? I'll trade my flesh for them, or you can pay in cash."

It's quite a hassle for her to change it herself; it's better if someone else uses it.

Cang Yu's wolf looks like it can eat a lot of meat, so she should be able to trade it for meat. If she doesn't accept barter, she still has cash.

"No need, just give me half of the stewed beef brisket." He used to be a jungle dweller, that's true, but his cooking skills are really not that great, only good at boiling.

He smelled the odor when Lin Yue opened the door.

"Okay. But how do you know it's beef brisket?" Most people can only tell it's beef by smelling it, not by knowing exactly what beef brisket is.

“Every part of every animal tastes different; you can tell just by smelling it,” Cang Yu explained.

"That nose is so sensitive!" Lin Yue exclaimed inwardly.

However, despite expressing their feelings, they didn't ask any further questions.

Cang Yu stood at the door, not intending to enter Lin Yue's house. Lin Yue closed the door, not intending to invite Cang Yu in, but simply went back to the living room and brought out the door she had prepared.

She's quite strong; carrying a door out isn't a big problem for her. But there are some things that strength alone isn't very useful for. Like installing the door, it has to be said that it's really much faster for two people to work together than for one person.
