Secretary Chang had been observing Lin Yue the whole time. Seeing that she was negotiating with him with a calm expression, he secretly affirmed her.
This is a smart and courageous young girl who knows what she is about to face, knows what she wants, and knows where their bottom line is.
“I agree to Miss Lin’s conditions. Regardless of whether Miss Lin can keep an eye on Chief Cao, your Free Base will not interfere.”
In normal times, capable people are in high demand, but in the apocalypse, capable people are simply "domesticated" and expected to shine.
He knew what Lin Yue was worried about, and naturally knew what she wanted most.
“Okay, I naturally believe what Secretary Chang says. Please wait a moment, I’ll go back and get something.” Lin Yue glanced at Cao Kefeng, then went back.
Her belongings were all in her spatial storage, so she didn't need to take anything out. However, she couldn't just take them out directly, so she needed to carry her backpack and the first-aid kit to make it easier to conceal her identity later.
While packing things into the first-aid kit, she remembered Cao Kefeng's hands, so she took out a bottle of medicine for treating sprains and bruises, which undoubtedly contained a little bit of spiritual spring water.
Although this person doesn't seem very reliable at the moment, those hands still need to serve the people, so they can't be wasted.
Outside the door, Cao Kefeng was overjoyed to see Lin Yue agree to go. Despite his hand being in pain and his anxiety, he still grinned.
"They rejected you, and you even hurt your hand, yet you're still so happy. Don't you feel embarrassed?" Secretary Chang couldn't help but tease Cao Kefeng.
He is very serious when he is doing things, but he will occasionally make a little joke when he is not doing things.
“It’s normal to lose face. I don’t have much prestige to begin with, so it’s normal for people to ignore me. As long as she goes to see her uncle, everything will be fine,” Cao Kefeng replied without thinking.
"You have that much confidence in this young girl?"
"Didn't you see Professor Xu's legs?"
Secretary Chang did not respond.
He wouldn't have made this trip in person if he hadn't seen Professor Xu actually stand up.
The two ended their conversation there, and after waiting a while, Lin Yue came out of the courtyard.
"Wash your hands, five times a day." Lin Yue tossed the liniment to Cao Kefeng, not caring whether he could catch it or not.
When something came over, Cao Kefeng, being an all-rounder, naturally caught it.
It was a glass bottle; if he hadn't been so agile, it might have broken.
Regardless of what Cao Kefeng was thinking, Lin Yue got into Secretary Chang's car and they went to the base hospital together.
The hospital was overcrowded. Some people with very serious illnesses could get an IV drip, while others with milder illnesses had to tough it out on their own.
Fortunately, the hospital's security was good, and no argument broke out over the uneven distribution of medication.
Chief Cao was staying in a special single room at the hospital. When he went inside, he could still hear some noise coming from the medical hall, but now it was completely shut out.
"Secretary Chang, you're back." Xiao Fang, who was wiping the leader's face, immediately stood up. When she saw Lin Yue, her eyes flashed with surprise. "This must be Dr. Lin. Hello, Dr. Lin! Please take a look at the leader. He has been unconscious for three days."
Lin Yue glanced at the still somewhat immature young soldier in front of her, then looked at Cao Kefeng, gesturing for him to introduce him.
Cao Kefeng, now with his intelligence intact, understood the implication and immediately said, "This is Xiao Fang, the commander's orderly."
"Hello, Xiao Fang. You can just call me Lin Yue. There's no need to be so formal." She wasn't much older than him, so she really didn't deserve such formality.
Xiao Fang was a little flustered, wondering if he had said something wrong. He turned to look at Secretary Chang and was relieved to see that Secretary Chang nodded at him.
Lin Yue walked to the bedside and looked at the base commander.
She admitted that she was a country bumpkin. If this were the post-apocalyptic world, a nobody like her would never have seen such a big shot in her entire life. Now that she had, she had to take a good look and satisfy her curiosity.
Chief Cao, lying on the hospital bed, had his eyes closed. He looked to be around sixty years old, and his features combined to make him a handsome older man. It was clear that he had been a handsome young man in his youth.
Perhaps because he was injured and lying down, he didn't exude the domineering aura of a superior; he just looked like a rather kind old man.
In conclusion, Lin Yue concluded that he was just an ordinary old man with a somewhat high social status.
"Old...where is the commander injured?" Lin Yue asked after examining him.
Because of the extreme cold, except for the hand with the IV drip, the rest of her body was covered up tightly, so she didn't see the wound.
Upon hearing Lin Yue's question, Xiao Fang immediately stepped forward to answer: "Dr. Lin, the commander is injured in the abdomen and chest by an animal. He has been vaccinated and the doctor has performed surgery to suture him, but for some reason, he has not woken up yet."
Lin Yue was very satisfied, as it saved her a lot of trouble.
but……
"Don't call me 'doctor,' I'm not a doctor." From the moment she decided not to go back to her internship, she no longer wanted to be a doctor.
However, despite the freezing weather, there were still animals outside.
"What animal scratched you? Why were you scratched?" Lin Yue continued to ask.
"It was a wild boar that scratched us, we were..." Xiao Fang paused, the reason for the scratch was a classified matter.
"Hard to say?" Lin Yue knew what Xiao Fang was worried about, but she needed to know why he had been arrested.
In principle, wild boars rarely attack people unless provoked.
Secretary Chang gestured for Xiao Fang to step back, and then stood next to Lin Yue.
"We were out on a mission, walking past that area, when that group of wild boars suddenly charged at us and grabbed our commander." I certainly can't go into the specifics, but I can give you a general account of what happened.
