Chapter 50 The Middlemen in the Base

The market was not quite what Lin Yue had imagined.

Before coming, she thought the place would be dirty and messy, but she was surprised to find that it was well-planned. The stalls were neat and uniform, and no items were allowed to be placed randomly. It was a very pleasant place to look at.

"Let's go see what the supermarket has first," Lin Yue suggested.

There's no rush at the market, you can take your time browsing, but it seems like there will be a queue at the supermarket. Luckily, there aren't many people now, so you can queue up and get a turn quickly.

“Okay!” Cang Yu naturally had no objections.

They lined up in front of the supermarket, and it only took them ten minutes to get to the front of the line.

"Hello, what do you need?" the salesperson asked.

The supermarket was no longer the kind where you could just walk in and choose your own items. Instead, there were tables set up in front of the supermarket, with three female sales clerks serving customers. Inside, there were four men with buzz cuts, who looked like soldiers, standing there with their backs straight.

It's an old-fashioned sales model. This exchange method is slow, but its advantage is that it prevents people from taking the opportunity to loot supplies.

"Hello, we're new to the base and don't know what's inside. Could you please tell us about it?" Since the other person asked politely, she naturally had to respond politely in return.

"Sorry, we're quite busy and don't have time to introduce it to you. Here's a booklet for you to look at first, and then let me know what you want to exchange. You don't need to queue up again."

Lin Yue nodded in understanding. After all, there were already quite a few people behind them, so it was normal that they didn't have time. The two of them took the brochures and moved to the side.

It didn't take long to look at the brochure, and soon the two of them understood what the supermarket sold. They could not only buy things, but also exchange items for supermarket points.

The supermarket mainly sells grains and agricultural products. It also has some daily necessities, but in relatively small quantities. However, there are fewer people who need daily necessities these days.

Vegetables, fruits, and meats were basically unavailable.

"By the way, comrade, it's still early today. There's a batch of frozen seafood in the supermarket that hasn't sold out yet. It's 1,500 points per pound. If you want to exchange it, you'd better hurry." The waiter suddenly looked up and said.

These occasional new things weren't printed in the booklet.

"Okay, thank you!" Lin Yue said with a smile, but couldn't help but complain in her heart as she thanked her.

Good heavens, she thought grain prices were outrageous enough, but now seafood prices are even more outrageous.

At the government service hall, you can exchange goods for 10 points for good quality rice, but the price rises to 15 points here. Other items have also increased in value. The frozen seafood she exchanged for at the government service hall cost 500 points, but the price here is three times higher.

It has to be said that the base knows how to do business.

However, these were not what she wanted, and she didn't care about the price. What interested her was that the supermarket sold cold-resistant corn, cold-resistant potatoes, and cold-resistant sweet potato seeds.

These varieties have already emerged after only four months of extreme cold; the country has truly done a great job.

All three types of seeds are worth 50 points per kilogram. The yield is described: one kilogram of potatoes and sweet potatoes can produce about 50 kilograms, and one kilogram of corn can produce about 1,000 kilograms, depending on the planting conditions.

After harvesting, you can exchange the produce at the supermarket. Sweet potatoes and potatoes are worth five points per pound, while corn is worth three points per pound.

Currently, there are no products for sale yet, as the research was only recently developed and therefore has not yet been planted.

"Cang Yu, I'd like to exchange some cold-resistant seeds to plant back home. What do you think?" Lin Yue asked Cang Yu, looking up at him.

Since we're living in the same house now, we still need to take Cang Yu's opinion into consideration.

It wasn't really for growing things to eat; it was mainly to pass the time. Besides, the further she went, the fewer things she could exchange, and deliberately aging them wouldn't be worthwhile. She just had to follow the crowd.

"Okay! It's up to you to decide. Just be careful not to overwork yourself," Cang Yu replied.

The original plan was to install the flooring, but it seems that it will have to be postponed.

Upon hearing this, Lin Yue immediately lowered her head.

She's really not used to Cang Yu now. She still feels that the Cang Yu who used to be concise was more normal. Now he cares about her all the time, which is a bit overwhelming for her!

Closing the booklet, Lin Yue said to the waiter, "Hello, give me twenty catties each of cold-resistant potato and sweet potato seeds, two catties of cold-resistant corn seeds, thirty fertilized chicken eggs, and twenty fertilized duck eggs."

The booklet contains fertilized eggs, each worth 100 points.

She wants to try raising chickens and ducks. She has the skills, but it will take some effort. She doesn't want to worry about space; once they hatch, she'll just put them in the greenhouse on the third floor.

She needs a legitimate excuse to eat chicken, duck, and eggs.

"Okay, just a moment."

Soon, the things Lin Yue wanted were brought out.

The corn comes with the cob, and there are seven in total, weighing two pounds.

Lin Yue took out her points card and had the receptionist swipe it for her points. The remaining points from last night's room change were all on this card.

There were quite a lot of things, but fortunately Cang Yu was strong. Under Lin Yue's somewhat embarrassed gaze, he carried the things in both hands and put them in the car first, planning to come back to find her later.

The two had already agreed that she would go sightseeing first.

The market stalls sold a wide variety of items; she had only looked at six stalls when she already saw six different kinds of things.

There was a down jacket with holes in it, I don't know where it came from; a bowl with a chip; a table with a missing leg; and a piece of withered grass on it, which I guess represents food...

Not seeing what she wanted, Lin Yue walked quickly and soon had already explored half of the market.

As she was walking, someone suddenly rushed out from the side and blocked Lin Yue's path.

Lin Yue looked at the person blocking her way with a cold gaze.

Before her stood a very thin man, the same height as her. His pretty oval face and features made him look quite ordinary, but the sudden fawning smile made him appear particularly sleazy.

"Is something the matter?" Lin Yue asked.

"Sister, I've seen you look at so many stalls here, but nothing seems to suit your taste. Just tell me what you want, and I have everything, guaranteed to be good quality and reasonably priced," the man in front of him said softly, looking around.

Lin Yue raised an eyebrow.

Middleman?

Seeing that Lin Yue seemed unconvinced, the man took another step forward: "Sister, don't disbelieve me. I, Li Mazi, am well-known in the base. Everyone knows me. I am absolutely honest in business. How about we go over there... ah..." He elaborated.

Li Mazi let out a miserable scream.

Cang Yu put the things over and saw a man blocking Lin Yue's way, constantly moving closer to her, as if he wanted to pull her away.

He immediately ran over, grabbed Li Mazi's hand, and kicked Li Mazi in the stomach. Li Mazi was sent flying, his scream echoing throughout the market.

"Get out!" Cang Yu's mist was filled with murderous intent.

Lin Yue was impressed by Cang Yu's kick; it was clean and precise, with just the right amount of force and placement, causing pain but not injury.

Hearing the shouts, the people maintaining order immediately came in to check. Lin Yue recognized him immediately; he was the soldier who had led the search party to check if they had guns last time.

This person should have a job, so why was he assigned to guard the market?
