Chapter 74 Entrance Exam ② Entrance Exam Part Two, Searching...
Chapter 74
"Moonlight potion is indeed a very useful thing, but unfortunately... it's very targeted."
After leaving the maze, Enid couldn't help but think of the turtle soup inside. She had learned how to make this potion, but because it was so specific, she had never used it. However, she knew how to brew it. A patch of moonlight roses grew in the sacred forest. Suddenly, she thought of something and looked at Barbara and Tim with bright eyes.
"Want to see moonlight roses? They're a type of rose that only blooms under the moonlight. They're a bit translucent and shimmering, very beautiful, but they're a little prickly. It's a bit of a shame, though, that this kind of flower isn't really suitable for taking your loved one to see."
Enid pursed her lips with a hint of regret. Actually, if it weren't for this, she would have taken Dick to see it long ago. The medicinal uses of the moon rose are actually quite limited; its main purpose is its beauty. However, upon hearing this news, Tim became somewhat interested in the reason why this plant couldn't be shown to his lover.
"Why can't I bring my loved one? Is it limited to just love?"
"Yes, because the moon rose is a flower that is jealous of love, and it can cause a condition called love-loss syndrome. The moon rose is also the only ingredient that can cure this disease. When I went with Sister Barbara last time, the moon roses were not in bloom, but they should be in full bloom soon."
Enid spoke very softly, to the point that no one else besides the three of them could hear her. So the professor who had been proctoring the exam didn't know that the cause of the heartbreak was actually the moon rose. In this world, the moon rose is a flower that blesses love, and the heartbreak is a test of love.
Perhaps thinking of something, Enid raised her voice and revealed the rumors about the Moonlight Rose in this world. The difference between the truth and the rumors reminded them of something. Enid mentioned the bard and the book that was destroyed because it recorded the truth.
She has learned the magic to set up illusions at any time, so that her lip movements and reality cannot be revealed.
"I actually thought about telling the truth at first, but... I don't know why, I just couldn't say it. I feel like I'm being a little cruel."
The next second after a slightly sad smile appeared on her face, Enid was pulled into Barbara's arms. She leaned against Barbara's soft chest, her hair being gently stroked, and Barbara's soft yet resolute voice was in her ear.
"It's not your fault, is it? Sometimes the truth is not an obligation to be revealed."
“Yes, and I don’t think they’d want to know the truth,” Tim added gently from the side.
From the very beginning, this corrupt world was on the verge of collapse. Oko could only save the symptoms of the world's decay, not the root cause. The only way to save them was to start with the leader of the country, with education and the mindset of each individual, and with opening up the fundamentals of education.
But this is not a fairy tale world, and they are not saviors.
This isn't cruelty; if Enid wanted, they would do everything in their power, but they can't stay here any longer, and neither can Enid.
“Thank you,” Enid lifted her head from Barbara’s embrace and smiled shyly. “I’m sorry, but I don’t really feel like I belong here. Fortunately, my mother paid a lot of money and enough for my studies from the very beginning.”
Enid scoffed at herself, perhaps there was an element of indifference in her own behavior, because she never felt she owed the world anything. She had paid her tuition in full, and she had extended the Queen's life by 120 years, all of which was enough to earn her the knowledge she had acquired.
"Don't mention it, we're family, aren't we?"
Barbara winked at Enid, and Enid suddenly found motivation in those beautiful eyes. She smiled, took Barbara's arm, and nodded.
"That's right, good! Let's continue!"
Seeing that she had cheered up, they breathed a sigh of relief. They didn't see Enid's guilt as a sign of weakness; in fact, it was quite normal. Even they had moments like that, didn't they?
This time they walked much faster because the path became much shorter after they left the maze.
Following this winding but unobstructed path, after a short while, the faint outline of a house came into view. Most importantly, the overly obvious North Star, rising smoke in the distance, began to guide the way. This was probably the only clue, because there had been no smoke in the sky along the way until cooking began.
The village was hidden deep inside, giving the illusion that it was difficult to enter even though you knew it was there. The moment the smoke from the chimneys disappeared, a forest shrouded in mist appeared before them. The mist was grayish-blue, and there seemed to be faint, indistinct light sources within it.
Enid covered the trees with her hands, trying to glean some information, but the frustration on her face soon betrayed her.
“None of the trees here told me the answers. They said I have to take the test myself. Although they told me it wasn’t cheating, they felt they should make things difficult for me.” Enid puffed out her cheeks, somewhat indignant.
“It’s okay, you don’t actually need your tree friends anymore, I have the answer.”
Barbara looked incredibly cute with a smug expression, and she was quite pleased to receive the admiring gaze from her sister. Tim, who was a few seconds slower to speak, shrugged and decided to remain silent.
"That's amazing! Barbara, you're the best!"
"You flatter me."
Tim vaguely remembered being praised as the best just now, and raised an eyebrow, but did not expose Enid for the time being, because he knew that Enid's limited vocabulary could only produce such praise. He decided to find another opportunity to tease her later.
Unaware that she was about to be teased, Enid followed Barbara with great enthusiasm. At that moment, Lyra also landed and perched on Enid's shoulder. She watched as Barbara found her way forward in the dim light. Following the faint light source, they arrived before a huge light—a massive crystal, almost as tall as Enid.
As they cautiously approached, Lyra also detached herself from Enid's shoulder and continued flying at a moderate altitude. The view was somewhat obstructed here, preventing Lyra from flying very high, but even so, she still managed to make some discoveries.
Enid was somewhat surprised by the message Lyra sent, because everyone in the village had fallen into a coma. Where was the prophet?
"Everyone here is unconscious. We need to go in and see what caused them to faint."
"The information from the micro-drone is the same: no action for the time being... wait, there's a child here."
Layla's voice also came through at the same time. After double verification, they looked at each other and then carefully walked towards the child. When they got there, they saw a little girl with a dirty face sitting on the ground, sobbing softly. When she saw the three of them, it was as if she saw hope, and her eyes shone brightly.
The next second, the girl stood up. She looked around and, seeing no one else, ran over. She stood before them, a mixture of unease and expectation in her voice, sobbing and stammering, "Waaaaah... Mommy, Daddy, Grandpa, Grandma, and my sister are all unconscious! Please help me, waaaaah..."
Upon hearing her words, for some reason, Tim and Barbara immediately thought of Enid's earlier mention of heartbreak, but they didn't have more precise information yet. So Enid stepped forward, crouched down slightly to be at the girl's eye level, and took out the candy Bruce had given her earlier—the kind of candy he used to comfort children during his night patrols.
When Enid handed the candy to the little girl, her emerald green eyes seemed to be filled with clear water, a soft warmth that stopped the girl's crying. She heard Enid's gentle and lovely tone.
"Don't worry, we'll save them. Can you take me to see your family?"
"Waaah! Yes, His Highness the Prophet was right, you are good people!"
A prophet...?!
It seems they haven't gone to the wrong place; the next test has officially begun.
