Chapter 60 Apple Milk Tea: The Father's Intentions, the Most...
His fingers were pressed together by another soft hand. In the instant their fingers intertwined, he looked down and saw eyes as green as gemstones not far away. She lifted his hand and kissed it.
“I haven’t told you yet, but I’m very happy today.” Enid kept staring at him, at his eyes. She had always known that whether it was him, her father, or anyone else in the family, they all had eyes that seemed to reach the sky, just like their own.
They are all striving to become the sky.
Enid did not possess such grand tenderness; she was merely a believer in all things, and only wished to be the forest.
“Every moment I spend with you is joyful, now and in the future.” Her eyes crinkled with laughter, her voice as clear as lake water, making Dick’s heart pound uncontrollably. He seemed unable to look away. “So, as a gift of joy, what do you want to do? I can accompany you to do anything you want, just you.”
She didn't really understand, so Enid could only try to share her happiness with him in the way she understood it.
"I'm very happy right now."
Dick didn't say anything deceptive. He wasn't a perfect performer at this moment, after all, they weren't on stage. He was simply speaking the absolute truth in her eyes, in sync with her pulse. He could roughly understand why Enid wanted to say that, so Dick imitated what Enid had just done and kissed her fingers.
"That's a pity, this is the only time you can have a gift."
"Hmm, it's not a pity, is it? After all, our great Druid Prince is easily softened, isn't he?"
Having been completely seen through, Enid had no choice but to surrender. After all, her heartbeat had been completely detected, and she seemed to have no ability to hide anything.
“Of course,” she winked, “but the report is finished, and it’s time to go back.”
“I guess Afu is already calling us.”
Enid hadn't eaten much that morning, so he wasn't particularly fond of their time alone together. In fact, he'd rather Enid go back to eat, a sentiment he didn't deny was influenced by Bruce.
After all, Bruce is always so busy that he forgets to eat, because what traps him is Wayne Enterprises, Gotham, and those suffering souls. He willingly traps himself, but perhaps this is not true trapping.
“I’m starting to get hungry,” Enid said, finally remembering that she always forgot to eat when she was in the potions room or alchemy room. Luckily, Astolfo was there, but most of the time, due to the urgency of the magic, she couldn’t disturb Astolfo’s worries and could only gently advise him, “Then let’s go back now, but maybe we can bring back some specialties?”
Suddenly, Enid pulled out a carton of milk, apple-colored milk green, neatly bottled. There was an OO face painted on the bottle, which looked rather cute. It seemed that Enid had hand-painted it herself. Dick took it immediately.
"It's a very nice gift; they'll definitely love it."
"But I should explain first that there is really no dust or bacteria on the lake; it was aseptically filled."
The apple-green lake always seemed to ripple gently in the soft sunlight, then vanish silently into the dense grass. Magic is such an unreasonable yet endearing thing. Dick couldn't help but laugh, for he remembered the same scene when he first saw this place.
"But we probably don't need to now."
“Of course I know,” Enid shrugged, “but I can ask everyone if they have any favorite tones. Of course, I refuse to talk about coffee, and yes, you and Barbara are not allowed to mention coffee.”
"Then I guess you'll also rule out Tim's energy drink, right? And soda too." Dick wasn't annoyed at being rejected for energy drinks, and smoothly eliminated Tim's usual beverages as well. However, Enid paused, then raised her hand with a big X. "Soda is on the table, but of course, I'm rejecting all energy drinks. After all, even great heroes need sleep, don't they?"
"Okay, of course."
"I can sleep with you."
Dick stopped abruptly halfway down the path, his wildly beating heart suddenly paused. He certainly wouldn't misunderstand anything Enid meant, but well, he didn't deny that a little, perhaps not much, shyness was starting to surface.
"Um, can I take this as a joke?"
"I'm serious. I mean, you can sleep on my lap. I saw a place online that likes to do that. Maybe it will make you feel better?"
Very well, Dick wasn't disappointed at all; on the contrary, he breathed a sigh of relief. He didn't want to offend her, for whatever reason, but now he was somewhat expectant, and the smile on his face relaxed considerably.
"Yes, that's a good idea, this afternoon?"
"Can."
The way home was the fastest way. From the start to the end of the teleportation array, there was no longer any excessive dizziness. Dick, who had experienced the teleportation array many times, clearly felt the difference. When they returned to the manor, Enid winked at Dick.
"Don't you think I've improved?"
"Of course, but it was already very good before, but it's even better now."
He didn't actually feel any dizziness; in fact, Dick adapted quite quickly. Enid was slightly smug, but her smugness didn't last long. She pursed her lips somewhat embarrassedly, "Actually, I did make some improvements. I looked at the basic structure of the teleportation array and then modified it myself. Sure enough, it's more stable now!"
She never mentioned the hardships of the improvement process, as she didn't want to be seen as having endured hardship. In fact, Enid was enjoying it immensely, and Dick knew that she really liked it.
“Great, it seems you’d be better suited to be a teacher at your school.”
"Damian told you about that detection magic, right? Actually, it's not that the school doesn't teach it, but that the magic isn't very useful."
Enid didn't think her abilities were that great. Of course, Dick wasn't concerned about that. Rather, he somewhat agreed with Damian's view. The professors and the church's detection magic was forbidden in exams. Instead, it was only allowed to be used in magic that wasn't taught. Such magic was hardly mentioned in the school. But if it weren't for this detection magic, it would have been difficult for Enid to last until the end alone.
Although Damian was present, in the magical world, Damian's companionship was truly incredible.
They have always been very wary of any place, and it wasn't just him; everyone else was too.
"Magic is a tool, isn't it? There are no useless tools."
"Yes, you're right."
Well, those words were a wake-up call. Enid suddenly realized that Dick's words made perfect sense; how could there be useless magic? Such a foolish statement. She lowered her head slightly, a little embarrassed, but soon felt a light touch on her head, gently stroking her hair.
"If you need help, feel free to call me anytime, or you can share your information and we can analyze it together. However, I think Tibao is probably better at it, and of course, so is Xiaoba."
"I think so too, but I could do it myself, come on, I'm a druid. But I would never become a professor at a university, that's too boring. I'd rather stay at home, um, be a... couch potato?"
Enid pondered the words, then chose one that seemed somewhat amusing. Dick couldn't help but chuckle softly, then gave her a very approving look.
“Great, I think Bruce must be very happy, so you’re not going to get my qualification?”
"Um... let me get Damian first."
To participate in the night patrol, everyone must pass the qualification test, but unfortunately Damian has not yet passed. However, Enid thinks it may be because she is not really ready.
The exam wasn't really meant to stop her; Bruce just wanted her to be fully prepared, or at least to think things through. He wouldn't actually stop her, but Enid felt she wasn't quite ready yet. Her expression seemed too obvious; Dick saw right through her.
In fact, it wasn't just him who noticed; Enid herself said it aloud: "Father, it's not so much that you want me to pass your test, but that you're waiting for me to really think things through, not that I want it because you're all involved. After all, it seems like the only thing I really want to protect is the forest, not Gotham."
“I’m glad you understand Bruce’s good intentions, so once you’ve really thought it through, I will give you a passing grade.”
Dick's expression was gentle. Not only him, but everyone knew Bruce's intention. He wouldn't really refuse Enid's request outright, so he used an overly tactful approach, but it worked, didn't it?
“It’s a deal.” Actually, Enid hadn’t made up her mind yet, but what she hoped for most was that they wouldn’t get hurt again. “However, maybe I’m better suited to be a doctor, but I hope that doctors aren’t needed here.”
Their conversation wasn't secretive; it was carried out through the wind and many subtle signals, right in front of Afu. Actually, Afu had come to invite them to dinner, but perhaps he should go and invite another gentleman first.
So their conversation was brought to Bruce's attention, and Alfred invited Bruce to dinner, mentioning what had just happened. Bruce reluctantly put down his work, but his eyes held an undeniable tenderness, and his lips curled slightly upward.
“Afu, I’m so glad that Fia understands this.”
"Yes, sir, but will Miss Fia's wish come true?"
Bruce felt somewhat helpless in the face of Alfred's teasing, but he couldn't agree to it because injury was unavoidable, and he didn't want himself or anyone else's family to rely too much on Enid's healing abilities. Therefore, he quickly changed the subject, adopting a more relaxed tone.
"Instead of that, let's be curious about what special treasures our druids brought back?"
