Chapter 36 The Cruel Truth: The Heart Is Unseen, A Thousand Years...
Chapter Thirty-Five
The pulsating heartbeat is like a slowly flowing silver river, winding and traversing through the soil. In the gloomy clouds, she seems to be able to glimpse a few silver lightning bolts breathing, something that does not exist in the normal human field of vision, something that no photography or any other image can record, something strange that can only exist in her eyes.
"Druid".
Bruce's deep voice pierced the air and landed beside her, instantly rousing her to her senses. Enid took a deep breath.
"I have intelligence. I'll deal with it first and then report back."
"good."
He neither questioned her decision nor doubted the existence of any strangeness. Green vines grew from Enid's hands, piercing the soil mercilessly. The sound of skin being punctured was suddenly exceptionally loud, carrying through the uninterrupted call into the bat cave on the other side.
It was the sound of a heart being pierced.
An overly clear sound pierced her ears, but she paid no attention to it. Instead, she made the vines bloom with countless bright red flowers until the flowers burst and shattered. All the flowing silver light on the ground had disappeared, and her face turned an excessively pale color. Naya suddenly jumped from her shadow into Dick's shadow. Through her anxious gaze, Dick flew away with a serious expression and caught Enid as she slowly landed.
Stephanie suddenly appeared beside Dick, and in the same princess carry, she lifted the seemingly extremely weak Enid, then vanished from Dick's side and returned to the Batcave. This was done using Enid's teleportation array, but it was clear that they had both forgotten something.
Dick turned around and saw Seren's eyes filled with helplessness and his heart pounding. He reached out and touched his antlers.
“Don’t worry, she’ll be alright.” Dick saw Enid wink at him and give him an OK sign as he walked over. He understood the subtle unspoken understanding between them; it meant she was okay. Cilan rubbed against Dick’s palm and followed behind him. Now it was Dick’s turn to worry about how to hide a deer in the house.
Back in the Batcave, Enid was placed on a bed, and Bruce immediately began to check her condition. The instruments showed that there was nothing wrong with her body, but Enid could not speak very well at the moment, although fortunately she could type and write.
[I'm fine now. I just saw some remnants of the Storm Child, so I destroyed them, but I didn't expect it to be a trap, so I can't speak. It should be fine in about 2 minutes.]
The two minutes of silence felt exceptionally long to Enid. She couldn't believe the mistake she had made. Would it bring disappointment to her father and siblings? After expressing herself in writing, she kept her head down, not daring to look at them, but soon someone patted her head.
“Hey, Fia, this is normal, isn’t it? We’ve all been there.” Stephanie’s voice carried a hint of comfort as she candidly recounted her own experience. Enid paused for a moment, then reached out and hugged Stephanie’s waist, burying her face in her stomach. Stephanie teased softly, “So, is this considered being affectionate?”
"Hmm." She was finally able to speak. After releasing Stephanie, Enid looked at Bruce. "I'm sorry, Father, I didn't expect it to be a hoax, but there is indeed a part of his power in it, but I don't know why?"
"What's different about the scene you see compared to what we see?"
Bruce clearly pointed out the most important part, and Enid also described what she had just seen without hesitation. Barbara then used a paintbrush to draw all those silvery lights on the original scene photo, exactly as she had described.
"Is that so! Barbara, you're amazing! Um... I actually noticed in a book that this is the location of the Storm Child's heart, but..."
Why is it wrong? The book clearly states this, and her method was correct, so why was she the one who got hurt? Enid was completely baffled.
“You’ve done very well, but I think you need to be more careful. Sometimes books aren’t omnipotent, and words can deceive you. You should have your own judgment.” Bruce thought for a moment and then spoke, trying not to be too stiff. “Report on the overall situation of your power, including the extent of its loss.”
It wasn't quite clear why Bruce needed her to report this, but Enid obediently checked it herself and reported all the data. Tim compared the data on the testing instrument and silently circled several aspects in red, seemingly preparing to make further improvements to this thing.
"Okay, now you should rest at home and not go out."
Bruce nodded to indicate he understood, but didn't explain why she had said that. Enid wanted to ask, but didn't know how to ask, but Dick's voice rang out at just the right moment: "Maybe she needs to come to my place? At least bring Ciaren back. It's a pity I don't have any suitable food for him. If he doesn't mind some cereal, or something else, hmm?"
Enid tilted her head, somewhat confused.
“Ah…but Ciaren was able to come back on his own,” she suddenly realized she had revealed something, “It seems Ciaren wants to stay with you, maybe he discovered something…Excuse me, brother, could you take Ciaren in?”
“That’s great, it’s my pleasure. I hope he won’t be too picky about food.”
Dick's voice carried a hint of teasing, and his cheerful tone instantly lightened the atmosphere. Enid suddenly found the courage to speak. She clenched her fist, looked at Bruce, took a deep breath, and stared at him.
"Father, can you tell me why?"
I agree with that.
Barbara turned to look at Bruce, believing that Enid had a right to know, at least in this matter. Dick remained silent, as did the others, which was also a tacit agreement. After a moment of silence, Bruce looked at Enid.
"The contents of the book are clearly the opposite. If you are not mistaken, your power is flowing towards the Son of Storms, which is the opportunity for his awakening."
Bruce's words were calm, yet they were like a sudden, sharp piercing, breaking through her already fragile defenses. Should she be thankful? She was still sitting on the bed where the equipment was being checked, otherwise, it would be hard to say whether she would have fallen or something else. Of course, the others would have caught her quickly.
"He's just a dead man, why not just kill him and be done with it?"
Damian's voice carried a sense of entitlement, like a nail securing a tent in a raging storm. She seemed a little more at ease. She looked at Damian and the others with a pleading expression, her eyes revealing tears. She wasn't crying, just a little sad.
"Did Princess Niaf deceive me?"
"Not necessarily, maybe she doesn't know either."
Barbara gently comforted her. Although she knew the truth, just as Bruce said, it wasn't the right time to tell her. For Enid, this wasn't a small matter; it was something she had held dear for 18 years, and it would be too painful to let it crumble.
Some things weren't explicitly stated, but it seemed everyone else understood. However, no one dared to puncture this fragile, colorful bubble, and Bruce agreed with what Barbara had just said, which made Enid subconsciously believe it.
“It’s alright. If that’s the case, I will take responsibility for sealing the Storm Child again and leaving the correct facts in the book so that future generations can also understand the truth.”
Enid's intuition told her they weren't lying to her, but Enid also knew she couldn't distinguish between a well-intentioned lie and the truth. So be it, she just wanted to deceive herself a little longer, just a little longer, so she could quickly come to her senses and continue being great, shouldering all her responsibilities.
"I believe you can do it."
Stephanie's eyes held unwavering trust as she gave Enid a warm hug, and Dick's voice rang out in response.
"Hmm, obviously not, of course you can do it, Fia. Don't worry, we all believe in you, you can do it. And I guess you can find him, right? Before he's fully awake."
"Yes, I can."
She nestled in Stephanie's arms and spoke with her most resolute voice. Afu handed Enid a glass of warm milk. "But rather than finding the other party's whereabouts, I think Miss Fia, you need to find the location of your bed first. Am I right? Of course, this includes you, Master, Young Master, and Miss."
The clock ticked away quickly. Dick hung up the phone in a flash. His sleep problems were much more serious than Tim's, and he was also the main person that Alfred was nagging about. Faced with such heavy concern, Dick could only slip away. Then, after drinking her milk, Enid obediently went back to her room.
Outside the window, the moon's silver light shimmered incessantly, and the faint stars were gradually swallowed by the thick clouds. Yet, she felt no sleepiness; only the silver pulse of her breath and many details she had never awakened to.
“Naya…you tell me, why is Laila’s power so similar to that of the Storm Child? Laila’s power also comes from Princess Niaf, doesn’t it?”
The cat jumped out of her shadow and kissed her cheek. Its green eyes, just like hers, were full of worry. The cat was a little anxious and didn't know how to comfort her. All it could do was lick her face, trying to express how much it loved her.
"Naya, you're treating me like a child again. You used to coax me like this when I was little, and you still do it now that I'm all grown up. You haven't learned any new tricks at all..."
She was smiling, but tears suddenly fell for some reason. Naya tried to lick away the tears, but tasted an overly bitter flavor. Enid reached out and pulled her into her arms. Naya obediently lay on her chest, her soft pads pressing against her lowered cheeks.
"Meow." The move isn't great, meow, but it works, meow.
"Hmm...it works very well. Although history is sometimes false, as long as the Mother Goddess is real, that's all that matters."
She slowly sat down, with Serd behind her, now a large cushion. Seren and Aura appeared on the balcony, gazing at her tenderly, while Lyra sang a nasty nursery rhyme softly from her antlers.
Suddenly, a lily of the valley bloomed.
Flowers bloomed in her hair; the blooming lily of the valley carried a unique gentle freshness after the rain, like a tender kiss and embrace.
—God is always watching you.

Author's Note: She finally figured it out. Enid isn't stupid after all. Hmm, that's about it! The Storm Child is about to wake up.
