Chapter 41 Arrival at the Military Camp

Chapter 41 Arrival at the Military Camp

Shen Lingning's order was concise and powerful.

Xiao Li understood instantly!

He no longer hesitated, and using all his strength, he suddenly lifted an empty gasoline barrel on the edge of the truck bed towards the gangster with a hatchet who was rushing in front!

The empty oil barrel was already heavy, and with the inertia of going downhill, it immediately rolled down the rugged hillside with a rumbling sound!

Rolling...rolling faster and faster!

“Fuck!”

The gangster who was rushing in the front saw a huge black cylinder rolling in front of him with the sound of wind. He was so scared that he had no time to chop people. He let out a strange cry and rolled and crawled to the side to avoid it.

As he dodged, he bumped into his accomplice who was following closely behind him.

The second gangster was caught off guard and staggered. The gravel under his feet slipped, the wooden stick in his hand flew out of his hand, and he lost his balance.

"Now! Back up! Go!"

Shen Lingning seized the brief chaos and gap created and spoke at a rapid speed!

Xiao Li understood what he meant and reacted quickly!

Put the car in reverse gear and step on the accelerator to the bottom!

The jeep's engine roared like a beast, its tires spun up mud and gravel, and the jeep's body suddenly leaped back, narrowly avoiding the pointed end of the wooden stick stabbed by the third gangster!

Immediately afterwards, Xiao Li turned the steering wheel sharply, shifted the car into forward gear, and did not release the accelerator!

The jeep was like a tiger that had broken free from its shackles. While the rolling oil barrel was still creating chaos on the hillside and the two gangsters were falling into a ball, it swung its front end and roared as it rushed through the gap that had been created!

The wheels rolled over the scattered gravel and wooden sticks dropped by the criminals, causing the car body to shake violently, but the speed did not decrease!

"Don't let them get away! Chase them!"

The gangster who was watching on the cliff and the two people who were stunned after falling below were shouting in frustration, but the jeep had already rushed out more than ten meters, leaving them far behind in the dust.

Xiao Li did not dare to relax at all. He stepped on the accelerator to the bottom and the jeep rushed on the steep mountain road until he could no longer see the hideous curve of "Eagle's Beak" and the figure of the gangster in the rearview mirror. Then he slowed down a little and let out a long sigh. The back of his military uniform was soaked with cold sweat.

"Comrade Shen...you...you really just..."

Xiao Li's voice was trembling with fear after surviving a disaster, but more of it was incredible admiration.

He had been in the army for several years and had seen a lot of storms, but it was rare for him to remain calm in the face of danger and instantly come up with the quick wit to use oil barrels to create chaos and escape like he did just now!

How does this look like a weak military wife with a child?

Shen Lingning also slowly sat up straight, his face a little pale, but his eyes remained calm.

She looked down at Fubao, who seemed to have been woken up by the jolt and was blinking in confusion in her arms, and breathed a sigh of relief.

"I'm glad everyone is okay."

Her voice was a little tired, but unusually steady: "It's also thanks to Comrade Li's quick reaction and excellent driving skills."

She didn't mention her crucial hint and attributed the credit to Xiao Li's on-the-spot reaction.

His eyes were fixed on the steep mountain scenery rapidly receding outside the car window, and a layer of frost gathered deep in his eyes.

This group of people are definitely not ordinary bandits.

The timing, location, and means all seemed like a carefully planned ambush!

If it was for money, there would be no need to go through so much trouble, and stay so close to the camp?

Xiao Li also reacted at this time: "Comrade Shen, what happened today is very strange. It doesn't seem like an obstacle, but rather it seems to be targeting us. Don't worry about this matter, I will report it to the leader."

Shen Lingning subconsciously hugged Fubao tightly and said in a cold voice: "It does look very unusual, but I don't quite understand, who would attack a military wife with a child?"

Then she hesitated and asked, "Is this Mr. Zhao's private car?"

Even though she recognized him as her godfather, she was still a little embarrassed to call him that.

Xiao Li also immediately became alert: "I will report this to the chief as soon as I get off the car."

As the two spoke, the outline of the base finally appeared among the mountains.

The jeep was shaking violently on the last section of the dirt road which was full of potholes caused by mountain torrents. The yellow dust kicked up by the wheels was like a dirt dragon, chasing the rear of the car closely.

The driver, Xiao Li, pursed his lips tightly and held the steering wheel firmly with both hands. Every jump of the car body caused a dull sound from the chassis.

Shen Lingning held Fubao tightly in his arms with one hand, and firmly grasped the armrest above the car window with the other hand, his body swaying left and right with the car.

Fubao adapted well. He rested his little head on his mother's arm and looked out the window with curiosity at the gray buildings that were getting closer and closer.

“Comrade Shen, the family compound of the Songtaogou base is ahead. The road is not good, please hold on for a while.”

Xiao Li looked through the rearview mirror and sounded apologetic.

"It's okay, Comrade Li. Thank you for your hard work."

Shen Lingning spoke in a steady voice, his gaze cast calmly at the rows of low brick houses built against the mountain.

Thin smoke was floating from the chimney, the khaki walls were mottled by wind and rain, and patched clothes were hanging out to dry in the yard.

The air was filled with firewood, dry tobacco and a damp earthy smell unique to the mountain valley. It was completely different from the hustle and bustle of Chang'an City. Everything here revealed the hardship and silence of the remote mountainous area.

The jeep rolled over the last section of bumpy dirt road and roared into the small dirt yard of the Songtaogou base staff compound.

The yellow dust kicked up by the wheels covered the heads and faces of Wang Xiuqin and Li Jinhua who were fighting with each other.

The two froze in an instant. Wang Xiuqin was still holding a strand of Li Jinhua's hair, while Li Jinhua was tightly grasping Wang Xiuqin's clothes. There were fresh bloodstains on her face, and there were some crushed wild onions under her feet.

They seemed to be under a spell, their eyes wide open, staring straight at the army green jeep that fell from the sky.

The dust slowly fell, covering the gray dirt floor and the sparks from the pipes of several old men watching the fun at the foot of the wall.

The whole yard was silent, with only a few chickens clucking in panic and running away.

The car door opened and the driver, Xiao Li, jumped out of the car nimbly. His military uniform was straight. He walked quickly around to the back seat and opened the car door.

Shen Lingning bent over and came out holding Fubao.

She stood up straight and gently brushed off the dust on Fubao's little cotton jacket. The appearance of mother and daughter was like a stone thrown into a stagnant pool.

Shen Lingning was wearing a blue cloth jacket that was washed to a pale color but was clean and neat, and her hair was neatly tied behind her head.

Her face was tired from the journey, but her eyes were calm. Fubao in her arms had a pink and white face, and wore a floral jacket without patches. His big black eyes looked around curiously, completely different from the children who grew up in the dirt.

The people in the courtyard gradually gathered around, their eyes glued to the mother and daughter, curious and inquisitive, but also with a hint of inexplicable alienation and sourness. How long had it been since this mountain village had seen such a "well-organized" group of people?

He came here in the chief’s car!

Shen Lingning was wearing a blue khaki jacket that was washed to a pale color but was clean and tidy. Her hair was neatly tied into a simple bun at the back of her head, revealing a white and slender neck.

Despite being tired from the long journey, there was a calm and tenacious demeanor between his brows, which was incompatible with the rough environment around him.
