Chapter 2: Realizing I'm Reborn

Chen Xia's consciousness fell into darkness.

Suddenly, he felt a sharp pain in his back, and heard a group of people shouting his name.

"Brother, please don't die, please don't abandon us, wuwuwu..."

"Second brother, hold on."

"Xiao Xia, you died so unjustly, oh my poor child."

"Chen Xia...Chen Xia..."

The sound seemed very far away, yet very close at the same time. However, no matter who made the sound, Chen Xia felt it was very strange.

Now he could take care of so many things, and he was a little relieved that he did not die and did not become the first doctor to drown in Jiangzhou People's Hospital.

The beating on his back continued. Chen Xia felt that if he continued like this, he would not drown, but die from lung contusion, which would cause large areas of alveoli and pulmonary blood vessels to rupture.

He regained consciousness instantly and grabbed the big hand behind him that was still slapping.

"STOP! Stop it, man! If you keep filming, you're going to smash my heart, liver, spleen, lungs, and kidneys."

When Uncle Wang saw the young man suddenly stretch out his hand to stop him from clapping, his eyes lit up and he shouted:

"Oh, look at my miraculous medical skills. Look everyone, I've saved the Chen family's second son."

The villagers who had just been lamenting were immediately in an uproar and began to rush forward.

The third grandmother's voice was the loudest: "Captain, come quickly, the second son of the Chen family is not dead, he is alive, ah, the Chen family ancestors bless you."

Chen Guolin also sat down on the ground. He had just been anxious and panicked when he and several villagers carried Chen Xia back to the village. Now that he had relaxed, he was completely exhausted. He wiped the tears from the corners of his eyes.

"It's good to be alive, it's good to be alive..."

Chen Qiu and Chen Dong each hugged one leg and cried loudly, their cries were mostly filled with the joy of being reborn after the disaster.

My mother passed away last year, and my father had an accident a few months ago. Now if my eldest brother, the pillar of the family, also died, it would be a pain they could not bear.

Several village cadres quickly squeezed forward, and Chen Yigen personally took Chen Xia off the cow's back and put him on the ground. The brigade clerk Chen Guoqing stood beside him, fanning him with a fan.

"Chen Xia, you're awake, thank God. How could you do such a stupid thing? With so many of us here, how could we let your family starve to death?"

Chen Xia slowly opened his eyes.

Looking at the old man in his sixties in front of me, wearing a vest full of holes, he looked so unfamiliar. I turned around and looked at the crowd around me, trying to identify them, but there was no one I recognized.

I thought that I seemed to have been rescued by unfamiliar villagers, but how did they know my name?

Could it be that a former patient recognized him? But why were their clothes so worn out?

Yuezhou is an economically developed region, and the living standards of farmers are no worse than those in the city.

No matter what, as long as I am not dead, being alive is better than eating gold ingots and candles during the Qingming and Winter Solstice every year.

Chen Xia sat up with great effort, his head felt dizzy and his chest ached.

He shook his head and thought that the dizziness was probably caused by lack of oxygen due to drowning. He just needed to go back to the hospital and get some oxygen.

After pressing his chest and abdomen again to make sure that there were no broken ribs or damage to the chest and abdominal organs, Chen Xia breathed a sigh of relief.

There are no serious injuries and the recovery will be quick. I still have to go to the outpatient clinic the next day. There are few people in the department now, and the department director will go crazy if I ask for leave at the last minute.

Seeing Chen Xia shaking his head and pressing his body all over, the villagers watching him shut their mouths and looked at him strangely.

Chen Xia clasped his fists and thanked the old man in front of him and the surrounding villagers:

"Hello everyone, I'm Chen Xia, a doctor at Jiangzhou People's Hospital. Thank you very much for saving me today. I'm so embarrassed, but I accidentally fell into the river while fishing. Oddly enough, there must be some water monkeys in the river, and they pulled me to the bottom..."

Looking at Chen Xia sitting on the ground, clenching his fist and talking, the onlookers were stunned.

"What Jiangzhou People's Hospital? What water monkey?"

The scene was silent, with only a few children hiding behind adults out of fear. Water monkeys are also called water ghosts, and rural people are most afraid of them.

Chen Yigen's hands were still in the same position as when he was hugging someone, and he had forgotten to put them down. He was so surprised that his eyes almost popped out.

Chen Xia looked at the old man in front of him with strange movements, and the villagers around him with their mouths wide open and faces full of fear, and felt indescribable strangeness in his heart.

"What's wrong with these people? They're dressed in a 70s and 80s style. Are they cosplaying? Why do their expressions look like the mentally ill patients in the Seventh Hospital?"

But his life was saved by the villagers. Chen Xia was a grateful person, so he smiled and asked:

"Hey uncles and aunties, has anyone seen my phone? I wonder if it's still working after it got soaked in water? Could anyone lend me yours? I'd like to call my parents and ask them to pick me up. My car is still parked by the river."

The villagers watching looked at each other, and a thought flashed through everyone's mind:

"It's over. The second son of the Chen family has gone crazy. His brain is broken. What does 'hand chicken' mean? And aren't his parents already dead?"

Chen Guoqing squatted in front of Chen Xia, pointed at his nose and asked, "Chen Xia, don't you recognize me?"

"No, I don't know him..."

"Do you know him?" Chen Guoqing pointed at Chen Yigen next to him.

Chen Xia thought about it carefully for a long time. "Do I know him? Have I been treated here before?"

Chen Guoqing slapped his forehead with one hand: "It's over, it's over. The second son of the Chen family has been soaking in water for too long and his brain has been damaged."
