"Niece, look what I brought you. It took me so much effort to make this. Come on, try it and see how it tastes."
I heard Uncle Dong's loud voice in the house, and when I opened the door, I saw him carrying a thermos bucket.
"Uncle, you're so busy and you still bring me delicious food? I heard you've been so busy these past two days that you haven't had time to sleep. I'm doing fine here, don't worry!"
"Open it and taste it. Eat it while it's hot. You've lost so much blood, you need to replenish your body."
Jiang Cha opened the thermos and found the chicken soup inside. The cooking skills were quite good. The aroma was very fragrant and the fat on top was skimmed off.
I took a little and tried it. It was fresh, fragrant and had a hint of angelica.
"Uncle, your chicken soup is so exquisite, you even put angelica in it. I didn't expect you to have such a skill, it's amazing!"
"It's alright! I know a lot more, I'll show you some other day. Drink it while it's hot, and if you like it, I'll make it for you tomorrow."
Don't be fooled by Uncle Dong's dark, tall, and strong appearance. He is a man of great refinement. Look at this pot of chicken soup. Nowadays, who would be so particular about skimming off the chicken fat and leaving only the clear broth?
"You kid, it's inconvenient to drink it upside down and you can't speak. I'll serve it to you. I was just wondering why you were drinking it one spoonful at a time. I forgot that your arm is inconvenient."
He took the pot from her hand, poured it directly into the bowl, and scooped up a few pieces of chicken with a spoon.
"Okay, eat it now! If you like it, I'll make it tomorrow."
"Why don't you have some too? I can't finish this much."
"You can't give him any leftovers. I've never seen anything like that before. I spent half a day stewing chicken soup, and in the blink of an eye, you took it away. You can make it again tomorrow, but only from me, right?"
The door was not closed, and Brother Ning came in directly. It turned out that he was the one who made the chicken soup.
"It doesn't matter who cooked it, the main thing is that it was a gift from my uncle. I was afraid you didn't have time, so I made a trip for you and you're still ungrateful. Besides, we're brothers! I can't come to see my niece empty-handed."
Uncle Dong and his older brother sat there, chatting quietly. She slowly drank the chicken soup and ate a few pieces of chicken. She couldn't finish the rest, so she left it there, planning to mix it with some hot water tomorrow.
If there is no way to heat it, we can just make do with it. If they are not here, we can put it away in the space.
"I'm not eating anymore. Why are you eating so little? How about some more? I've been cooking this for a long time. This contains angelica, which is good for replenishing blood."
"Brother Ning, I'm full. If I eat any more, it'll be like force-feeding a duck." (Artificially force-feeding a duck)
Put the bowl in your arms and don't even think about pouring her any more. She just drank a bowl of chicken soup, in an old-fashioned big blue-rimmed bowl with chicken. How could she possibly want another bowl?
"That's not right. I'm saying, niece, Xiao Jiang is my brother. We've been brothers for so many years, and you call me uncle and him brother? Just because I'm a little older than him doesn't mean we're of different generations, right?"
"Well, calling him Second Uncle isn't appropriate. My uncle Liu said that calling him Second Uncle is taking advantage of my dad. So I changed it to calling him Brother, it sounds more intimate."
"So that's what's going on! I was saying, Xiao Jiang, don't overthink it. Just talk to Jiang Cha. We're still good brothers, and I definitely won't take advantage of you."
After saying that, he patted Brother Ning on the shoulder, looking like a good brother.
"How come you and Brother Ning are brothers? Since there's a big age difference, it's OK for me to call you uncle."
"We are brothers, and he is our junior fellow apprentice."
'Shaolin Temple, ouch'
"If you like Shaolin Temple, I'll shave your head bald tomorrow."
Brother Ning flicked her and realized that he had said the wrong thing.
"That's about the same. Except for the master's aunt, all the other members of their family are men."
"If you say that again, I'll tell everyone that you said our house is a Buddhist temple. Those who are hoping to have a daughter will have a good chat with you later."
"I'm afraid of them. Anyway, I have a daughter. I'm already a grandfather, and I envy them to death."
"Take good care of yourself. We're going back now. We'll come see you when we're free these few days. Remember to take your medicine, and don't take a bath. Just be patient, okay?"
Brother Ning took the thermos and went out with the old man. After they reached the door, he came back and told her.
"After dinner, I'll come over to wash your hair. Don't wash it yourself, or you might break the wound."
Then he waved goodbye and left. The two of them came here during their break. They had to get back to work, so they locked the door, closed the window, drew the curtains, and went into the space to take a shower.
When the old man came over, she had already set the water. If she couldn't take a shower, she'd take a bubble bath. Thanks to the bathtub from her previous boss, it was imported and handcrafted from Germany.
She didn't wash her hair. Firstly, it was really inconvenient and her arm was swollen! Secondly, Brother Ning still had to come over to wash her hair!
After getting dressed, I opened the curtains and windows. The evening breeze blew in, caressing me softly. I was so hypnotized by the ginger tea I was drinking while reading.
'Dangdangdang'
'Wait a moment'
He touched his face to make sure there was no saliva, then went over to open the door.
"Sleeping with the window open, you're just asking for a cold! I brought you food, and I'll wash your hair after you finish eating."
Brother Ning came over with lunch boxes, but I didn’t know what was in the two boxes.
"I can't eat this much. I haven't digested the chicken soup I drank this afternoon yet!"
"You're dreaming. I haven't eaten either. Mr. Dong drank the chicken soup right out of the door and didn't leave me a single bite. This box of egg noodles is yours. Try the army sick food too. If you can't finish it, give me some."
I took the full lunch box of hot noodle soup, picked up a few chopsticks and put them in the bowl, and pushed the rest to Brother Ning. I'm not hungry at all, this is enough.
"You really don't eat much. Old Wu said you need to eat more. You don't eat much more than a cat. How about we eat smaller meals more often? I'll give you a midnight snack?"
