Chapter 97: Outing (Part 2)

When they came out on their bikes, they saw a bus stop not far away. Jiang Cha felt that she had been fooled by her friends, as she had no idea that there was already a bus here.

I was pedaling my bike like a fool, exhausted, and there was a bus stop next to me.

He fired his White Eyes at them continuously, but in the end, no one saw anything.

There was only one single room left in the guesthouse, so they gave it to Jiang Cha, and the others stayed in a four-person room. After a quick tidy up, they headed towards the place where the game was cooked.

No one had ever been there before, but they managed to find the right place based on other people's descriptions.

From the outside, it looked like a neat little courtyard, with a door that locked from the inside. There weren't many houses nearby, but being right at the foot of the mountain made it convenient for doing business.

Following the rhythm Guangjin had inquired about, they knocked on the door a few times, and soon someone inside welcomed them in.

When I entered the house, I found that the yard was not small, and there were two rows of houses, not the kind of courtyards within courtyards like a siheyuan. Just two simple rows.

They didn't know what the back looked like, so the elder sister who opened the door arranged for them to stay in the east wing in the front.

The wooden doors and windows, with curtains hanging outside, looked like an ordinary home.

When I pushed the door open, I found a different world. There was a big kang connected to the room, and a large table on it.

There was plenty of room for them to sit down, so there was no menu. It all depended on what was available at home that day.

The dish arrived quickly. The roasted rabbit was glistening with fat, evidently rich in fat. It was game season, and animals were fattening up in preparation for the winter. A thick reserve of fat was essential for surviving the cold winter.

Then there was pheasant hotpot, the broth simmered until golden brown, with mushrooms and wood ear mushrooms. There was also stir-fried pork with Zhen mushrooms, a reddish-brown mushroom that grows under trees and that they wouldn't dare pick themselves.

There is also braised wild boar meat, which is really hard to chew, the meat is tough, rough and has a fishy smell.

Why is domesticated pig meat so tender and free of odor? Just ask her little machete and you'll know. This is also why pork from other countries isn't tasty.

The amount of tofu I make is limited every day. Those who are slow and come late will not be able to eat it.

The casserole was filled to the brim and was still bubbling when it was served. It was clearly just a pot of white tofu, but when the lid was opened, the aroma of meat filled the room.

When Jiang Cha scooped out a piece with a spoon, I saw that it was stuffed tofu.

The tender and smooth tofu paired with the seasoned meat filling and a sip of tofu soup is simply amazing.

The last main course was the steamed flower rolls, which were thin and long. They were not the usual steamed ones, but were made similar to pot stickers, with one side being fluffy and soft, the other side being crispy and delicious.

No wonder people who have been here can’t forget it, just for the taste of this dish. If she were here, she would also miss it.

After eating, they sat on the kang while the eldest sister served them tea. Several plates of melon seeds, peanuts, and hawthorns were placed on the table. The service was so good that Jiang Cha, who was used to state-owned restaurants, was flattered.

"Oh, it would be nice if I could eat like this every day."

What Lei Zi said made sense, and everyone nodded.

Even though there are no special seasonings, each dish tastes so different. Even the ordinary tofu is smoother than the one outside.

While drinking tea and peeling peanuts, Erbei shared the gossip he heard with everyone.

"Do you know where Uncle Fang arranged for Li Wei to go? It was originally scheduled for the Northwest. But after that day's fight, Auntie Guo went back home and had another fight with her brother.

Li Wei's uncle originally planned to stop Jiang Jiang on her way home from get off work, but was bumped into by Uncle Fang and sent back. He then went to Aunt Guo to discuss moving Li Wei to a new place, on the condition that she join the army.

It's amazing that so many people called Uncle Li directly to ask for permission to join the army for their sons. It's a big border area, so there aren't many family members accompanying the troops, so the approval process was very fast.

When Li Wei goes to be an educated youth, Aunt Guo will leave immediately. I don’t know when she will come back. Anyway, I will pay her off recently to avoid causing trouble for you.”

"Where did he go to the countryside to make Aunt Guo so happy?"

Jiang Cha didn't believe that Guo was so easy to deal with.

"It's quite close, Hebei Province"

"It's so close, and Uncle Fang has asked for so many favors. It's not appropriate. It's not worth it to spend so much effort just to avoid two trips."

Erbei also means this, it's unnecessary. Why should he benefit from it and be beautiful to him?

"Uncle Fang took great pains to find the place. Even though Hebei Province is close to the capital, he managed to dig out a place that was said to have been missed even by the Japanese during their raids.

The village is surrounded by mountains and has only a few dozen households. Going to the market requires a day's journey over the mountains, walking dozens of miles along mountain roads."

"Hahahahaha, you deserve it. Guangjin, your dad is really talented. How did you learn to touch the corners and crevices?"

Dapao lay on the kang, shaking with joy.

"My father told me that the village was used to nurse the wounded soldiers of the Eighth Route Army, and many seriously wounded soldiers from the war stayed there.

Many men in the village are former soldiers, and the village chief is also a retired veteran. His real purpose of going to the countryside is to receive the love and education he deserves."

Jiang Cha and the others were filled with awe after hearing this. A village like this could have stayed out of the incident, but they took risks to rescue the wounded and actively served in the army. Such places were afraid that Li Wei would bring discredit to them.

My butt was so warm that I didn’t want to get down from the sitting position. It was getting late, so I had to go back to the guesthouse.

Sitting on the cold wooden bed, I thought about my own kang and thought about how to quickly clean it up. It would be warm and my bones would relax.

Several people were dawdling in the morning, and Jiang Cha was about to be late for work, so he had to borrow the phone at the guesthouse and ask the section chief for a day off.

She had felt something was wrong since yesterday. When had her friends ever been so slow? Their factory was farther away, and she had never seen anyone take the initiative to live outside.
