Chapter 13: The Little Cotton-padded Jacket is Still the Cutest

Is anyone there?

No one responded.

The supermarket was empty, but all the appliances were still running. Xiao Yunying looked up at the monitor screen above her and waited a while before she felt safe enough to start shopping.

It's no wonder she's timid; anyone would be scared in that situation.

She strolled around the first floor twice to make sure nothing had happened before she was completely relieved.

This supermarket is quite large, with three floors. The first floor mainly sells meat, fruit, grains, oils, seasonings, alcoholic beverages, and there is also a small area dedicated to cooked food.

The second layer contains small home appliances, snacks, toys, baby products, school supplies, and daily necessities.

Only half of the third floor was open, selling bedding, underwear, socks, and the like.

"I didn't expect this supermarket to follow me here, that's great."

Looking up at the surveillance footage again, the time was still stuck at 7:10 PM.

"Time is frozen here, does that mean the food won't expire?"

Before she could think of an answer, Xiao Yunying heard a knock on the door. She was stunned for a moment before realizing that someone was knocking on her bedroom door.

How do I get out?

Her vision blurred again, and she was back inside the house.

I tried saying it to myself, "Put the things on the bed back in the supermarket," and in the blink of an eye, the things disappeared.

After calming her excitement, Luo Xin opened the door and looked up, saying, "Mom, big brother said dinner is ready."

"Let's go eat."

The smell of the Chinese medicine from yesterday had mostly dissipated. Xiao Yunying filled a bowl with porridge, added brown sugar, and had Luo Chen take it to the main room.

There was a table in the main room, but it was much more worn out.

Luo Xin sat next to Xiao Yunying, looking at her with expectant eyes.

Xiao Yunying understood the expectation in the little girl's eyes and tapped her little nose: "Xin'er, wait a moment, the porridge is a little hot, let me eat first, and I'll feed you after it cools down a bit."

Luo Xin nodded obediently: "Okay."

She's not an unreasonable little child; she still needs her mother to feed her, but she wants her mother to hold her...

Luo Xin made a promise to herself in her heart: this is the last time, and she will definitely eat by herself from now on.

After Xiao Yunying finished eating, she hugged Luo Xin and patiently fed her spoonful by spoonful with a wooden spoon.

Just like yesterday, Luo Li was the first to finish eating and said she wanted to have another bowl.

Xiao Yunying earnestly told the children, "Go get whatever you want to eat. Don't ask me. I won't go hungry again."

Luo Li pursed her lips, clearly not believing it, but since there was food to eat today, she might as well eat first.

After breakfast, Luo Chen and Luo Yang took over the task of washing the dishes. Xiao Yunying didn't stop them; washing dishes wasn't tiring anyway, so let them do it if they wanted.

After going to the outhouse to relieve herself, Xiao Yunying was grateful to the original owner for being so clean, using straw paper instead of bamboo strips or leaves.

They can't even afford to eat, yet they still use toilet paper to wipe their bottoms. I don't know whether to call the original owner fussy or to thank her for being clean.

Xiao Yunying was happy at the thought of the supermarket.

It's okay, she has toilet paper no matter what.

She went back to her room to grab her bag; she needed to hurry and make a trip to the city.

Luo Xin followed her like a little tail. When she saw her pick up the bundle, she immediately pursed her lips and asked, trying to hold back her tears, "Mother, are you leaving?"

Yesterday, she heard her grandmother tell her mother to go back home and not to worry about them anymore.

"Mother is going to the city to finish the embroidery and buy some food. You stay home and wait for me to come back, okay?"

Luo Xin suddenly grabbed Xiao Yunying's leg and shouted desperately, "No, I won't let Mother leave!"

The little girl was too young to know that her mother had been replaced. She only knew that her mother's sudden recovery made her uneasy, and she thought that her mother was just pretending to lie to her so that she would leave her behind.

She thought her willful actions would earn her a beating and a scolding, but instead she felt a hand gently patting her head.

"But if we don't go to the city, we won't be able to buy food, and we won't have anything to eat tonight. If Xin'er is worried, why don't you come with your mother?"

"Really? I can go to the city with Mother?"

"Of course it's true."

"no!"

Luo Li, who had been eavesdropping at the door, rushed out. He remembered his older brother's words: he couldn't let his sister go out alone with this woman, or she would be sold.

"You can't bring your sister into the city!"

Xiao Yunying picked up a wooden hairpin from the table, wrapped it twice around her high ponytail, and simply tied it up. She then led Luo Xin outside, asking, "Why not?"

Luo Li couldn't stop her, and in her anxiety, she could only call out, "Big brother, second brother, come quickly!"

Xiao Yunying rubbed her forehead, feeling a headache coming on. Why did this brat always like to call for people for no reason?

The two older boys ran over, and Luo Chen asked, "What's wrong? What happened?"

Luo Li pointed at Xiao Yunying and complained, "Big brother, she's taking my sister into the city; she's going to sell her."

Xiao Yunying's eyes widened: "Hey, little brat, don't just spout nonsense. I've been putting up with you for a long time."

Luo Yang rarely spoke up: "What are you doing bringing your little sister into the city?"

Xiao Yunying knew the children were terrified by the original owner's constant threats to sell them, so she patiently shook the bundle in her hand:

"Exchange your embroidery work for silver to buy food, otherwise you'll starve in the future."

"Then what are you doing bringing your little sister with you?"

"If she wants to go, I'll take her. Why ask so many questions?"

Luo Chen disagreed: "No, you can't bring your little sister."

Luo Xin clung tightly to her mother's leg: "No, I want to go with you, Mother."

Luo Li stamped her feet anxiously: "Little sister, you can't go, she'll sell you."

Luo Xin timidly looked up at Xiao Yunying, and seeing her mother smiling at her, shook her head at Luo Li:

"No, I believe my mother wouldn't sell me."

Xiao Yunying felt so comforted. Sure enough, her little darling was the cutest.
