Chapter 170 Want to Be My Cook?

Chen Yuancheng's sister is quite outgoing.

However, like Chen Yuancheng, he is kind and has a lively personality, so he doesn't make people feel uncomfortable.

This was Xiao Yunying's first impression of Chen Yuanyao.

"I'm seventeen this year, so I should be quite a bit older than you."

"Not much, only three years older than me and one year younger than my brother, just right."

Xiao Yunying asked in confusion, "What do you mean, 'just right'?"

Chen Yuancheng said, "Yuanyao, go to the kitchen and urge them. Yunying wants to stay for a simple meal. Tell the kitchen to hurry up, as she has things to do this afternoon."

"Okay."

Receiving a warning look from her older brother, Chen Yuanyao lifted her skirt and ran out.

I was bursting with excitement. My older brother was calling the girl Yunying.

What an affectionate way to address someone!

From first impressions, the girl was quite nice. She was neither servile nor arrogant towards them, and there was no intention of flattery. Her eyes were clear and did not seem fake. She was slightly plump and good-looking.

She's a good cook; her dishes are novel and delicious, and my older brother loves them.

Judging from her clothes, her family background might not be high, but that doesn't matter, her family is not short of money, so this is nothing.

Most importantly, my older brother likes it.

Seventeen isn't young anymore. I wonder if she's married or not. Judging from her not wearing a married woman's hairstyle, she probably isn't.

As for whether they're engaged or not, we'll go to her house tomorrow to find out the details.

Chen Yuanyao became more and more excited as she thought about it, and she was determined to have a good talk with her grandmother later.

After Chen Yuanyao left, Xiao Yunying said, "You're eighteen now? I thought you were at most the same age as me."

Aside from his height, probably around 1.8 meters, his face still looks quite youthful.

"I guess it's because I stay indoors for long periods of time and don't get any sun, that my skin is pale and makes me look younger."

Chen Yuanxuan said, "You're the same. You used to be so chubby and fair-skinned. I thought you were at most fifteen or sixteen years old."

Xiao Yunying pinched her face: "I guess I'm just chubby and my face is round, which makes me look younger. Young Master Chen, you don't need to rush to lose weight. Children are cute when they're chubby. It's not too late to manage your figure when you grow up."

"I am a man, why should I be cute? I need to be dignified."

"What's the point of you, a little kid, trying to be authoritative? Who are you trying to scare?"

"Anyway, I don't want anything cute." Chen Yuanxuan wiggled his bottom and sat up straight: "Your hawthorn cake is delicious. Can you make any other food?"

"Yes, I can make a lot of snacks."

"Would you like to come work as a cook at my house? I'll have my family pay you a very high salary."

She had no desire to work for others: "Sorry, I don't want to work for anyone. I've been researching greenhouses lately, specifically for growing overseas vegetables. Yuancheng, do you need any? If so, I'll grow them and deliver them to you."

Chen Yuanxuan asked, "Were those the dishes you brought yesterday?"

"That's right, not just those few types, there are many other kinds."

"Brother, go ahead and order. Those dishes may look strange, but they taste pretty good."

"Okay, once the Yunying cherry blossoms are planted, you must send them to my family first."

"I need to make this clear to you in advance: these vegetables will be much more expensive than regular radishes and cabbages."

"It's fine, whatever you say is fine."

Xiao Yunying raised an eyebrow: "Aren't you afraid I'll ask for an exorbitant price?"

Chen Yuancheng poured her some tea: "In Donglin City, if there's something the Chen family can't afford, no other family can even dream of it. You're not that kind of shallow person. If you wanted to run a vegetable business for the long term, you wouldn't do something so foolish."

She always forgets that the Chen family is wealthy: "That's the confidence of the rich."

When the food was served, Xiao Yunying tasted the dishes. Perhaps because she was there, the food wasn't as bland as she had expected, and the taste was quite good.

There is a dish of sweet and sour pork ribs made with tomato sauce that Chen Yuanyao and Chen Yuanxuan really like.

Xiao Yunying also likes sweet and sour dishes. Seeing that they liked them, she ate one piece but was too embarrassed to eat any more, so she picked up other dishes to eat instead.

Chen Yuancheng used serving chopsticks to put a piece of pork rib on her plate: "Eat quickly, or they'll eat it all."

"Thank you, you eat too. Don't worry about me, I can make it at home if I want to eat."

After having a meal at the Chen family's house, Xiao Yunying bid farewell to the three siblings and then went to buy what she needed.

She went to buy candy for the guests and chose pine nut candy. The method is very simple: coat roasted pine nuts with melted maltose, let it cool, and then cut it into small pieces.

Then she went to the general store and bought the red paper that her mother had repeatedly told her to buy.

When the roof beam is being raised, the craftsman is expected to receive a red envelope (containing money), the amount of which depends on the homeowner's wishes.

Just like weddings and funerals, no one comes empty-handed to a housewarming party; a gift is expected.

The host family should prepare red envelopes as return gifts for the visitors. It doesn't need to be much; just one red envelope containing two coins for each family. The main purpose is for the visitors to bring good luck and share in the joy.

The only vegetables we can use are radishes, cabbage, potatoes, and the like.

She didn't want to use vegetables from the supermarket, not because she was stingy—they would be replaced anyway—but because they were too conspicuous. She was too lazy to explain; she figured it was better to avoid trouble before she could grow her own.

I went to the money exchange and got twenty taels of silver in copper coins. I'll keep the rest for myself, except for the ones I need to use for making red envelopes tomorrow.

After inquiring around, they went to a cart shop, rented an oxcart, paid the remaining silver at the blacksmith's shop, checked the ordered stove and cookware to make sure everything was correct, loaded them onto the oxcart, and headed home.

Starting tonight, I'm going to be busy.
