Xiao Yunying walked slowly behind, feeling certain that she had blisters on the soles of her feet.
I finally made it to my doorstep with great difficulty. When I opened the door, I saw three children sitting in the yard.
Just as she stepped across the threshold and was about to put down her basket, Luo Li ran out, looked around, and then came back, shouting to Xiao Yunying:
"You wicked woman, where's my sister?!"
"Your sister is outside, I'll go get her..."
Before he could finish speaking, Luo Li interrupted him: "You're lying! There's no one outside! Did you sell my sister?"
Luo Chen went outside and looked around, but as expected, he didn't see his little sister. He shoved Xiao Yunying hard and said fiercely:
"You wicked woman, I should never have trusted you! You actually betrayed my little sister! I should have killed you sooner!"
Xiao Yunying was surprised that Luo Chen would suddenly make a move. She was pushed and lost her footing, taking two steps back before bumping into the door.
Before she could regain her footing, Luo Li rushed up again, grabbed her left hand, and bit her arm hard.
Xiao Yunying gasped in pain and instinctively grabbed Luo Li's hair, pulling it back. But then, realizing she might hurt him, she didn't use too much force.
"You brat, let go of my mouth! I told you to let go, didn't you hear me?!"
Luo Chen rushed forward, prying Xiao Yunying's hand off Luo Li's: "You sold my little sister and hit my third brother! Tell me, where did you sell my little sister to!"
Seeing the group fighting, Luo Yang stepped forward to stop them, grabbing Luo Li and trying to pull him away: "Don't fight yet, talk it out, ask questions before you start fighting."
Xiao Yunying initially didn't intend to argue with the three children, but now their behavior and words have provoked her anger.
The group of people were all seething with anger, and they were pulling and tugging at the door, neither of them letting go, making the door bang loudly.
The group pushed and shoved each other, creating a chaotic scene and making quite a commotion.
Hearing the commotion, several nearby families, having finished lunch and with nothing else to do, gathered together and started making their own interpretations of the pictures, enjoying the spectacle.
"Look, Xiao Yunying is hitting the child again."
“I heard her third son yelling this morning, and she's started hitting her daughter.”
"I just heard that they sold her fourth daughter."
"Huh? I really haven't seen that little girl."
“Look at that piece of cloth in her basket, it must have cost a lot of copper coins. Where did she get the money? Did she really sell the little girl?”
Luo Li's bite was truly vicious; it's unbelievable where a five-year-old child like her got such strength. Xiao Yunying's eyes reddened with pain.
"I'm saying this one last time, let go of my mouth, or I'll really hit you!"
Hearing the commotion, Aunt Yang came out and saw what was happening. She quickly came over to advise her:
"What are you doing? Let go of each other right now. Adults and children fighting like this, people will laugh at us."
Xiao Yunying let go first, her hand covered with nail marks left by Luo Chen.
Mu Lianrong finished her lunch and, carrying the thirty eggs she had collected in the village that morning, headed towards her daughter's house.
I saw a crowd gathered in front of my daughter's house from afar, so I quickened my pace and squeezed into the crowd. There I saw the three little ones surrounding my daughter, with the youngest one even biting her arm.
Mu Lianrong immediately became furious, slammed the basket on the ground, and said, "What are you doing, you little brat? Let go of my mouth right now, or I'll beat you up."
Someone nearby, eager to stir up trouble, said, "Old Mrs. Mu, your precious daughter sold someone else's sister, and the brother is now avenging his sister."
Mu Lianrong turned around and cursed, "Bullshit! Our Xiao family doesn't raise beasts who sell their children."
The man's face darkened after being scolded: "Hey, you still don't believe me? Then tell me, where did this little girl go? How did she disappear?"
An old woman nearby chimed in, "That's right. I saw her taking Fourth Sister into town this morning. Now she's the only one back, and she bought so many things. Where did she get the money? She must have gotten it from selling her child."
Mu Lianrong glared at the old woman: "Shut your dog mouth if you don't know anything! That was the money I gave my daughter last night. How did it become the money for selling Fourth Sister?"
The old woman rolled her eyes: "You say you gave it, so you gave it. Who saw it? I certainly didn't. Besides, it doesn't say on the silver how it came to be."
"Do you think you can see me spending money on my daughter? Who do you think you are? Even the King of Hell doesn't have your say."
The old woman wanted to say something more, but was pulled by the person next to her. She then remembered that Old Woman Mu was a notorious shrew in the surrounding area, not only for her words but also for her actions. She turned her head away with a resentful look and stopped talking.
