Chapter 318 Chasing People

Xiao Yunying resignedly agreed and led Luo Xin downstairs.

The streets were bustling with people, and since the road to the Chen residence wasn't far, the group decided to walk back instead of taking a carriage.

On the way, Xiao Yunying thought that she might borrow the Chen family's kitchen tomorrow. She had heard Chen Yuanxuan say that their grandmother liked sweets, and she could make some soft and glutinous pastries that were suitable for the elderly.

Suddenly, a figure darted out from beside her. Because of the close proximity, Xiao Yunying, who had been deep in thought, sensed it and looked ahead.

Before she could react, another figure beside her threw down the lantern and ran out.

Xiao Yunying recognized them; they were Luo Chen and Luo Yang!

"Hey, where are you guys going!"

What's wrong with these two kids?!

She was anxious. After all, they were just two teenagers. What if something happened to them on this crowded street?

The human trafficking gang hasn't been caught yet.

Xiao Yunying pushed the lantern and Luo Xin in her hand toward Chen Yuanyao: "Keep an eye on Xin'er for me, I'm going to find them."

After saying that, he chased after the two children.

Chen Yuancheng did not stop them, but gave a wink to the crowd nearby, and watched as several guards of the Chen family disguised as passersby chased after them in the direction they had left.

He bent down and comforted the somewhat panicked Luo Li and Luo Xin for a few words, then led them towards Xiao Yunying's direction.

Xiao Yunying followed the two children's figures, her gaze fixed ahead, and saw Luo Chen, who had run ahead, grab the arm of an adult man.

The man's back stiffened at first, then he slowly turned around. Just as half of his face was revealed, he caught sight of Luo Chen out of the corner of his eye, abruptly pulled his hand away, and deliberately squeezed his way into the crowd.

At this moment, Luo Yang had already run to Luo Chen's side and grabbed Luo Chen, who still wanted to chase after him, saying, "Don't chase him anymore."

Luo Chen ignored him, shook off his hand, and chased after the person in the direction he had left.

Xiao Yunying ran over: "Who is that? A pickpocket?"

Luo Yang didn't say much, only saying "no".

"Let's catch up with Luo Chen first."

The two began chasing after the figure again. Xiao Yunying ran while thinking, while Luo Yang's expression was off.

Could the man who could make these two brothers lose control be that scoundrel who's back?

Please don't! She thinks her life is pretty good now and hopes the two brothers have mistaken her for someone else.

But Luo Yang's expression and the way the man ran away didn't seem like he had mistaken someone for someone else.

Xiao Yunying followed Luo Chen's figure into a small alley and continued running in the direction of one road. When she saw Luo Chen's dejected figure, she found that the alley in front of her had forked into another road.

It's obvious they lost track of him and couldn't catch up.

Xiao Yunying, panting heavily, slowly walked to Luo Chen's side.

This kid is quite fast; he runs so fast even though he's wearing so many layers.

She steadied herself and asked, "Who did you see?"

Luo Chen didn't speak, but Luo Yang answered her: "It's Wei Xun."

Wei Xun?

This name sounds familiar.

Xiao Yunying searched her memory and confirmed she didn't recognize him: "Who is Wei Xun?"

Why does the name sound familiar yet I can't remember who it is?

Luo Yang explained, "Wei Xun used to be my family's bodyguard. He always stayed by my father's side. Even when we were exiled to Lingnan, he never left. He kept in touch with my father while avoiding the sight of the soldiers. However, he often went out, and I don't know what he was doing for my father."

It wasn't until the year of exile was over, on our way to Donglin City, that Wei Xun finally left, and we never saw him again.

Xiao Yunying leaned against the wall: "Did he betray you and run away?"

Luo Yang shook his head: "Wei Xun was a bodyguard trained by my grandfather for the Luo family. His purpose in life was to protect the Luo family. He would never betray the Luo family or my father. He must be doing something that my father couldn't say openly."

Xiao Yunying glanced at Luo Yang disapprovingly, wanting to say that everyone in this world is an independent individual, and apart from voluntarily protecting their important relatives and friends, no one lives for the sake of others.

However, seeing that the two children did not look well, she did not choose to teach them the right ideas now.

Moreover, she knew that in ancient times, the concept of hierarchy and servility was deeply ingrained. The secret guards or assassins trained by wealthy families from childhood had long been brainwashed into tools, with almost no personal thoughts other than completing the tasks assigned by their masters.

Therefore, she did not refute Luo Yang's confident assertion that Wei Xun would not betray the Luo family.

Besides, such arguments are pointless.

Xiao Yunying looked at the two forked alleys: "Are you two sure that the person just now was Wei Xun?"

Luo Chen then spoke softly, "I saw his face, I can't be mistaken."

"As long as you didn't admit your mistake, that's fine."

Xiao Yunying caught her breath, took a deep breath, put her hands on her hips, and began to shout.

“If you still have contact with Luo Sheng, remember to tell him that his son misses him. Even if he can’t come back right now because of some things, at least send a letter back to put the children at ease.”

If he doesn't want to come back because of me, there's no need for that. He can just give me a divorce agreement, and I promise I won't bother him anymore. That will put his mind at ease.

Actually, Xiao Yunying wanted to ask another question: "Has your master died yet? If he has, please tell me secretly so I can know for sure."

Because the two children were there, Xiao Yunying was too embarrassed to ask.

Xiao Yunying shouted at a moderate volume. There were residences on both sides of the alley, and she was afraid of disturbing the neighbors. Moreover, she felt that if that person was really Wei Xun and still had contact with Luo Sheng, he wouldn't have left so easily.

If it were her, she would definitely hide somewhere and secretly observe the situation of the young master of the Luo family.

After waiting for a while, there was no other sound except for the wind.

Xiao Yunying's intention in saying these words was for the children's sake.

She shouted with her head held high, then kept observing her surroundings, not noticing that the two brothers' expressions darkened further when she uttered the words "divorce agreement."

Luo Chen said in a low voice, "Let's go."

Xiao Yunying didn't say anything more. She didn't know how to comfort the two children. To avoid saying anything wrong, she quietly walked behind them and they left the alley together.

Chen Yuancheng and his group had already found their way over and were waiting at the entrance of the alley without going in.

Luo Li asked curiously, "Big brother, second brother, what's wrong with you?"

Luo Yang patted his younger brother's head: "It's nothing, big brother mistook you for someone else."

"Who have you mistaken for someone else?"

"Admit your mistake..."

Perhaps his mind was in a bit of a mess at the moment, even the usually clever Luo Yang couldn't think of a good reason to appease his curious younger brother.

Xiao Yunying stepped forward from behind: "It was late at night and the lights were dim. Your older brother must have mistaken someone for a thief. He thought someone had stolen someone's purse. He only realized the misunderstanding when he chased after them. They were just playing around."

Luo Li was short and couldn't see what had happened in the crowded street. He looked at his older brother's bad expression with suspicion.

Luo Yang secretly tugged at Luo Chen's sleeve and whispered to Luo Li, "Don't ask about our brother. He just got scolded by everyone and he's feeling quite embarrassed."

Luo Li understood now, said "Oh," and didn't dare to ask any more questions.
